2 CHAIRMAN S REPORT

Hello Everyone,

It appears that some people seem to think that the cricket field is a public right of way and think it is OK to exercise their dog/s on it. Please be advised that it is not a public footpath and is in fact privately owned. I mention it mainly because the people who try to run the cricket club collected half a bin liner of dog faeces before the start of this year s cricket. There is a team of very young people who play on the field, and there is a disease called Toxicara which can and does cause blindness in children if they come into contact with dog faeces

so please use the public footpath just a few yards further up the road and pick up your dog muck.

The Pear Tree has changed hands again and we now have Yvonne and Tony who already live in the village and have a lot of plans for the future. At the moment the opening hours are Mon/Tu/Wed/Thurs 5 p.m. till close. Fri/Sat/Sun opening 12 noon to close. Quiz night on Monday start 9 p.m. The kitchen is undergoing refurbishment and as soon as this is complete food will then be on the agenda hopefully in the very near future. The 17th May was a night of entertainment and was a huge success which they intend to repeat. If you have any ideas for entertainment do please let Yvonne and Tony know.

We have had a few burglaries in the village in the last two weeks. Please be vigilant and close your windows and doors when you go out into the garden, and put handbags and keys out of view. The Outings Group have had a few enjoyable evenings in the last few months; if you would like to go on our mailing list please let me have your email address. Chairman: Wendy P Ramsden

Anyone who feels they would like to be on the rota to serve the teas, it would be much appreciated. The rota is about once every two months. Contact: Bea Horsfall Tel. 01274 674483

ART CIRCLE

February saw a return of John Gilbert, demonstrating in oils trees and their reflections in water , not an easy thing to accomplish but John gave us many tips towards achieving this end.

March was a watercolour workshop given by Paul Talbot Greaves. The subject was painting a still life from a collection of fruit and vegetables, and after an initial reaction of oh no not a still life we had a very enjoyable evening and some very creditable paintings were produced.

Our April meeting was a visit from David Newbould which is an evening eagerly looked forward to and always well attended. David is one of the best portrait painters I know and coupled with his many jokes, gave us as usual a very instructive and entertaining evening. The first half he discussed some of his paintings and in the second half he produced a super pastel painting of yours truly.

May, June, July, August we will be going out sketching, weather permitting anybody wishing to join us will be most welcome.

N.B. We will meet outside the Village hall at 7 p.m. on the 3rd Monday in the month

The photo of the steam road roller is a bit of a mystery. It could possibly be back to front to start with, but here it is in the original. It was provided by James Lockwood whose several relatives were responsible for many of the buildings in Norwood Green. Dates given by him are as follows: 1880 onwards ~ Wells Terrace & Prospect Place were built by Fred Wells.

Chapel Street, Green Mount & Daisy Bank were built by James Wells.

Grasmere Grove was built by Jonah Wells.

In 1910 Thorn Garth was built by William Wells.

In 1930 Norwood Terrace, Rookes View and the Cricket Pavilion were built by Jim Sharpe.

Extract from James Parker September 1901 Norwood Green. The Wells family of Norwood Green have long been resident there ~ for over 100 years; they originally came from Bowling.

Entitled Shop at Judy Bridge 1933 from Geoff Booth There is a building on the left in the trees. But is this the Judy Bridge area?

9 NORWOOD GREEN CRICKET CLUB

We are concerned about footballers using the sight screens on the cricket ground, as goal posts, causing considerable damage. My son Lee, 1st Team Captain had to repair one recently. The police have been informed. What with the nuisance of dog dirt, we are having quite a time of It lately.

However the good news is that both the 1st and 2nd teams are currently at the top of the table in the Bradford Central League. I hope it continues Marilyn Clapham NGCC Secretary _________________________________________________ The season got off to a good start. Both teams have won their first three games and are top of their respective leagues. The Juniors are still practising and playing in their respective games. The new groundsman is doing an excellent job on the square.

We hope a few more people from the village will come and support us on Saturdays. But we do extend our thanks to those who regularly support the Cricket Club. Douglas Marlow _________________________________________________

CARE FOR THE GREENS

The Residents Association Committee ask you all, and your friends, to show respect for the Greens. The sixteen Commons, or Greens as they can be called, are our inheritance. We like them to be treated with respect.

Dog dirt left behind by village dogs whose owners do not clear up after them, is becoming quite a problem. Please be aware a lot of children play around the commons and we must protect their health.

THE WHITE H LINES

These are in place at the kerb sides to discourage parking in areas where vehicles need to get through. Please do not park here.

PAVEMENT PARKING IS ILLEGAL

Even if you only have two wheels on the pavement you may be fined £30. Is it worth the risk? Park on the road or in your drives please. Residents Association Committee

From PC Ashley Smith

I have been contacted by Marilyn Clapham, NGCC Secretary,Tel. 01274 598552 She informs me that there are problems with dog fouling on the cricket pitch in the village. Police PCSO for the area is Ian Robinson.

It often amazes me how some dog owners don't mind leaving their dogs mess on someone else's land or garden, but they would be the first to moan if it was all dumped back in their garden... I don't suggest this as a course of action, but I feel for those involved Ashley Smith

11THE OLD WHITE BEARE

Chris and Andy, and the whole Old White Beare team would like to thank all locals for a very warm and friendly welcome and for your much appreciated support. It has been a very enjoyable few months and we really do feel as if we have discovered a great place to stay for a long time ahead, and hope everyone is happy with the way we are running your local pub. We are always open to suggestions.

We have both worked through the ranks of well respected hotels and restaurants with success and want to take the food and service to the next level here. As things stand the Old White Beare is truly a pub to be proud of.

The famous Summer Ball is just around the corner now with the 28th June being the big day. Many people have already booked their tables but there are a couple of spaces still available. The event this year will take a 50 s Rock & Roll theme with a live band, DJ and a fantastic four course meal. It s certain to be a great night and we are really looking forward to it. Hope to see you all there. Chris & Andy
