From the Principal…
Staffing and Enrolments Our student enrolment numbers remain at 234, even with some movement of students
in and out of the school. There has been little change to our staffing organisation.
Miss Carter will continue to work as literacy support teacher and Executive RFF
teacher on Wednesdays and Thursdays, replacing Mrs Cooke. Mrs Eves will be working
with 1/2A every Thursday as Mrs Aldred is released to work as a literacy teacher
mentor as part of a professional learning project we are running at our school.
Staff Development Day On the first day of term, our teachers engaged in two key professional learning
sessions. The first was a course aimed at developing our understanding of the syllabus
propositions for the new K-10 PDHPE curriculum. We learned how they shape the
syllabus outcomes and content as well as how they guide teaching and learning
activities. The new syllabus will be implemented across NSW in 2020. If you would like
to view the new syllabus, it is available through the NESA website:
https://educationstandards.nsw.edu.au/wps/portal/nesa/k-10/learning-areas/pdhpe
Our second session focused on improving our skills in using our school’s new Promethean
Activ Panels. We learned a great deal about various functional elements, as well as how
to best utilise this technology tool for teaching different aspects of the curriculum.
1500m Event Last term, several students from our school participated in the first ever Blue
Mountains PSSA 1500m representative trials. The NSW PSSA has introduced the
1500m event for their Primary Athletics Carnivals from this year on so the Blue
Mountains Zone of the PSSA decided that a separate event would be held this year to
gain interest and data on how many athletes we would have to cater for in future years
at the Zone Carnival. We had 5 students represent our school – Raff (3/4H), Hayden
(4C), Lauren (5/6A), Levi (5/6A) and Lauren (5/6M). They all ran hard against some
tough competition.
Special congratulations to Levi, who came first in 11 year
boys and will now represent Sydney West at the next
stage of the competition.

Earn and Learn I would like to send a big shout out to all the parents, family
members and friends who supported our school this year in
collecting ‘Earn and Learn’ stickers. We earned 29,819
points, which allowed our school to purchase some playground
equipment, including dexterity balls, balancing boards, tactile
path pieces, frisbees, stilts and a co-operative throwing
game. These items are valued at over $1,000. We are
expecting the order to be delivered in Term 4. We truly
appreciate the community effort that went into making this
happen. Thank you!!!
Attendance Every year the NSW Department of Education monitors attendance rates in all public
schools through a ‘return of absences’ report mid-year. Some of the information from
that report shows pleasing data for our school. Firstly, our Semester 1 attendance
rate for the whole school has increased this year to 93.3%, compared to the last three
semesters. 80% of our students reached the state benchmark rate of 90% attendance
or above, with our highest percentage of students reaching this rate in Year 3 and Year
5. We understand there are various factors which impact on the capacity of students
to attend school every day. Please remember to contact the school (by letter, email,
Skoolbag or at the office) to explain any absences, or speak with your child’s teacher if
there is an issue affecting their attendance.

We all have a ready excuse (or two or three!) for not volunteering. But what if we busted some of those excuses and proved to you that no matter what excuse you give, there will always be an opportunity for you to volunteer.
EXCUSE #3 – OTHER PEOPLE WILL VOLUNTEER. This is one of the biggest excuses that people give for not volunteering. Our answer to this excuse: NOT TRUE!! It is unfortunate that the SAME people volunteer time and again, but only because no one else has come forward. Soon these volunteers will burn out and that is not what we want. Besides, the more volunteers we have, the more gets done in a shorter amount of time. The shorter amount of time needed to do something, the quicker you get to go home and enjoy the rest of the day! So next time there is a call for volunteers, DON’T assume that “someone else will do it”, because we are counting on YOU to help.
Stay tuned for another busted excuse in our next issue!
We need more regular helpers in the Uniform Shop!
The Uniform Manager has now left and so we need more volunteers to make up a team to run the Uniform Shop. If you are able to help out on a Thursday morning, any time between 8.45–10.00am, please contact the P&C President via email at:
Thank you in advance!

Such as Cyber-safety or Student Wellbeing or Discipline, etc. Mrs Berwick is eager to organise parent seminars but you need to tell us what you would like to know. Feel free to send an email to the P&C President with any suggestions: [email protected]
