Presidents Message

With Spring, you normally think of warmer weather to get out and do things. The months of March and April this year have

not been a normal Colorado pre-summer season, but with the cooler weather my Fords and Mercury have been a delight to

travel in. Flatheads seem to run better in cooler weather.

The garage tour was a great success even with a smaller group of people than what historically has been a large gathering due to

a cold early morning. Ron Neale’s garages and cars were a great treat to see, and club members Tom Webb, Greg and Trevor

Squires did a marvelous job of setting it all up. I was leader of the pack almost like a “pre turkey trot” warmup, and I provided

the group with some additional viewing of scenery while trying to reach our destination. It goes to show that we are faithful to a

pack leader and will follow that car anywhere!

Spring cleaning of house, garage and shed is another activity that is done in the early part of the year, so I hope you are setting

aside numerous items for our May Club Auction this year. Details I’m sure are found somewhere within this edition.

The committee’s that are discussing Alamosa 2020 are working hard to get the initial details hammered out, while getting a

timely jump to provide correct information to our club members nationwide. They will be contacting each club member for their

expertise on the events that they volunteered to help assemble. Be Ready.

Feb 17th RAY'S GIFT

Hi-Country V8 member Raymond Ziehm recently donated his replica of Henry Ford's first internal combustion engine that he meticulously created. The Forney Museum of Transportation is the benefactor of this unique engine and Ray's display boards. He'd been looking for a final home for his engine and the folks at Forney were very pleased as well as Ray! His display boards explained Henry's 1893 build and the reasoning behind it. Comparing the original (at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn) and the replica, show's Ray's attention to detail! Ray ran his engine for club members at a Seminar in Charlie Clark's garage a few years ago. Ray wanted to keep the exhibit in Denver for automobile enthusiasts to enjoy in the future. What a great home for it! Of course, one more "startup" was in order with the "little" engine running great! What a great morning and I felt lucky to be there. Look for it the next time you're at the Forney Museum. Tom Webb

Looking back

Photos of April Seminar by Ed Rockwell

Well the April seminar and shop tour at Precision Design Fabrication with Tom Stark was amazing, the

Workmanship and design work is simply first rate and outstanding, We had a very nice turnout with a

lot of members driving their cars to the seminar, and the weather finally behaved itself,

Would like to thank Tom Stark again for Hosting the Club and taking time out of his busy schedule to

show us around and what it takes to build such amazing cars.

THE 2020 WESTERN NATIONAL MEET

September 21st - 24th

Alamosa, Colorado

This is the one that you will remember!

Plan to spend a lovely and exciting mid-September of 2020 in beautiful and colorful Colorado. The HI-Country Regional Group

(#28) is hosting the Western National Meet in Alamosa, Colorado, and you will definitely want to be there. Where the heck is

Alamosa you might logically ask? Well, Alamosa is located in the south-central part of Colorado (the San Luis Valley), not all

that far from the nearby New Mexico border, and is probably a part of the state you’ve not yet visited. Clear blue sky, bright

sunshine, interesting things to see and do, lightly traveled roads, and majestic purple peaks in the distance. Need we say

more? Surrounded by mountains on the north, east, and west, Alamosa is big city in services but small town in its friendly feel,

and it has all the amenities that you will need or want. Come and enjoy.

This will be the 5th National Meet presented by RG #28, so we do have some experience. Starting with “Colorado Drive ’75”,

we have hosted a meet in every decade since. All are remembered fondly by those who participated, and so it will also be this

time. Naturally, Alamosa 2020 will have all the basics that you have come to expect from a meet: judging and the concourse,

seminars, the National President’s meeting, the Foundation report, door prizes, a swap meet, welcome-in activities, a raffle, as

well as awards festivities. Of course, we’ll work hard at adding a distinct “western flavor”. Did we mention the “must do”

driving tour that you definitely will not want to miss? And best of all (and not to be taken lightly), you will have great

opportunities to meet, greet, and socialize with all of your Club friends, not to mention the chance to meet new folks.

But there is more --- much more --- to capture your interest and attention. The Valley has really huge sand dunes, an

impressive (award winning) steam-powered scenic railroad (a real trip back in time), tons of early Spanish history, alligators,

and more. Great things that you will definitely want to see, do, and experience while you are in Colorado. Click here for

complete information. More in Junes news letter
