Love all the recycling going on in our park...shows how much we care. It would help even more if you would take time to break down your cardboard boxes so the dumpsters could hold lots more and it wouldn’t look so cluttered around that area.

WOW!!! February already, the sea-son is flying by. NOTE to all home-owners---ALL means ALL. So---- any improvements you wish to make on your lot (on the outside of your home) must be approved by the A.C.C.. This means you must submit a Lot Improvement Plan form with all of your drawings, which show where and what improvements you are planning to the home owners office by Tuesday each week. The A.C.C. will review the plan to see that it complies with the Park Rules and Regulations. If the plan is in compliance with the rules it will be approved and you may pick up the OK’ed construction permits from the Home Owners Office. Some of the improvements may require building or other permits issued by the City of Yuma before construction can begin, Your Plan approved by the A.C.C. will notify you of the need of City per-mits. If you are planning on replac-ing or buying a new park model, the State of Arizona requires that you meet with the A.C.C. before you pur-chase the new park model. There is a member on duty or on call every day so we can answer your questions and better serve your needs. Enjoy the rest of the season and keep up the excellent work with your im-provements.

I wish that I had written down some of the stories that my Mom and Grandmother told me, what were my ancestors like? What were their hobbies, how tall were they? What do I have in common with them? I would like to hear some of their stories, come join us , and not deprive your children and grandchildren, of their memo-ries. We laugh, we cry, mostly we rem-inisce and share, learn from each other and remember times in our lives. Come join us on Thursday morning at ten o'clock in the Mo-have room, and let Your creative juices start flowing as you (Put down the bones) for posterity.

We are excited to see that our club is growing. We welcome men and ladies. The cost is $10.00 per sea-son. The club meets every Tuesday and Friday at 9am for member tournament. The game is played in an enjoyable, relaxed atmosphere. No pressure, we are there to have fun. Anyone wanting to learn or improve the game, our expert Lyle Olmstead, will help you.

The Horseshoe Pits are open daily for anyone to play. There are horse-shoes in the small shed, located be-hind the pits, if needed. PLEASE: remove the carpets from the pits and place them away from the pits, before playing. Also, don’t forget to replace the carpets after you’re done playing, thank you!

The Club’s meeting and potluck is on February 2nd, in the Mojave Room at 4:30 for happy Hour and 5pm for potluck followed by a short meeting. Come join us and meet the players.

Did you know nearly 30 percent of people ditch their New Year's diet in the first week? And near-ly half of us quit in the first month. So, if you are feeling frustrated and unsure if you are going to continue, rest assured that you are not alone. But, you also don't have to be that statis-tic! Here are some helpful tips to keep you on track with your healthy lifestyle resolutions.

6 Tips to Help You Keep Your Resolutions

Remind yourself every day why you made your resolution. Plac-ing a note on your bathroom mirror or hanging up that pair of jeans you want to fit into can be great motivators.

Take things one week at a time. Give yourself a weekly goal that will help you reach your overall goal. For example, "this week I will exercise at least 3 days."

When you reach your small goals, reward yourself! If your goal was to exercise at least three days that week and you did, do something nice for your-self.

Notice the small things. Do you have more energy? Are your clothes fitting more loosely? Has your overall mood im-proved? These are all benefits the scale doesn't show you.

Forgive yourself. We are not perfect, and that's okay. Some-times, we will overdo it and stray from our goals. But tomor-row is a new day and we can start fresh.

(continued…)

Allow yourself to receive support. Share your goals with others and allow them to give you advice and support on your journey. Copy-right 2018 TOPS Club Inc. Re-printed with permission. Vis-it www.tops.org to learn more about nonprofit, proven-effective healthy lifestyle and weight-loss support.

THE CR Dance club has complet-ed 8 weeks of dance lessons and have learned four new danc-es. We will not have lessons in February so that the instructors can learn new dances. but we may resume in March if there is interest. Also, we have plans to host a couple of dances at the end of the season. If you would like to help with that, please con-tact me.

The Dance club like to remind dancers at our Saturday night events to use good "dance eti-quette" on the dance floor. Treat the dance floor like a race track and stay in your own lane. The fast two steppers and polka dancers get the outside "lane", the pattern dancers use the sec-ond "lane", everyone else uses the middle. Of course line danc-ers get the front or rear of the floor. Also, please do not huddle in groups to visit while dancing is going on. Thank you for your courtesy.

We have replaced 10 of the “house cues” with new cues that play great and look nice, giving us a well-rounded selection to choose from. Nice to see so many residents enjoying the woodshop. The lathes continue to be a favorite for many. Some folks have been coming in with their pet pro-jects either to work on or get some help with them. There is always someone around to give useful tips and a helping hand. The club bought us a sup-ply of hardwoods for re-sale. Most of it went quite fast and we will bring in some more to give members a chance to get acquainted with supplies that can't be bought locally. The club had a joint meeting with wood crafters from Sun Vista at the January monthly meeting. We had a guest speaker make a presentation on turning. Very informative. Someone came by the other day to see if he could build a cedar canoe in the shop. Too bad we had to decline as we don't have that kind of space and you have to take your project home with you daily if you have no locker. With the season over half gone, the shop dues are now based on a monthly charge of $15.00. The daily rate remains the same at $2.00. Come by and see what the woodshop has to offer. Look for a monitor to show you around. Look for a green cap and apron. Work safe and en-joy. Rene Charrois, President

The Battle of the Sexes Tourna-ment is always a real hoot and this year was no exception. Tim and Carol duked it out for first and Tim beat her in Heads-Up. Congrats to you both. All you newbies need to note there will be a All-Park Carnival on February 5th where we will have tables set up for begin-ners to learn the game, stress free. Here is a rundown of our games: Monday, Wednesday and Friday games are both dealer’s choice and Texas Hold’em. They are very friendly games and a great way to get acquainted with everyone. They start at 6:15 PM and end at 9:00 PM. Thursday, Saturday and Sunday No-Limit Texas Hold’em is played at 1:00 PM. except for the 3rd Sunday of the month when it will start at 4:00 PM. It is not too late to join this fun and creative group! If you like to sew, come to the Coronado Room on Tuesday mornings at 9 am and join the Material Girls (and guy). We are a sewing group that loves to have fun, learn and create a variety of items with materials from weara-bles such as vests and blouses; personal accessories such as tote and cosmetic bags and home de-cor items such as wall hangings and place mats. Dues are $10 a year and new members are always welcome. During February we will be work-ing on a quilted pad with pockets to use under your sewing ma-chine and an Owl Tea Cozy. We have an outside instructor com-ing to teach us a tote bag that converts to a duffle bag. We still have spots available for mem-bers. For more information stop by the Coronado Room on Tuesdays or contact Sharon Vipond #198.

We chose to go out to eat for our January Meeting at the Das Brat-wurst Haus in old town. The food and service was great and we enjoyed playing the purse game after singing our song. Got lots of questions from observers and one nice fellow bought all of our drinks. The Queens meeting was held Mon-day, January 8th at the EATS which is our usual place to have our meeting and Janet Sammer-Dewald was in charge since Scotty moved home due to her ailing husband. Two of our sis-ters attended the "Boot Scootn Boogie" put on by Helen Howe and her Foxy Ladies at the Cara-van Oasis on January 25th and enjoyed the entertainment, lunch and learned some new dance steps. Our Queens meeting in February was held on the 5th and again attended by the vari-ous RV park Queens in Yu-ma. February is a busy month for Red Hatters in Yuma with the various activities sponsored by other Queens and will be attend-ed by Country Red Roses sisters and will be reported on in the March Courier.

WOW!! Gotta love this time of year. After the beginning of each new year all the carvers are together, the room is full of chips and love to say nothing of creative juices. We come from so many states and provinces into one cohesive group. We are all gearing up for the All Park Art Show in March. It gives us a time to show off and answer questions. By the way, if we are selling any carvings, most of us end up charging about 10 cent an hour to give you an idea of how much work we put into our carvings.

Our end of the season celebra-tion will be in the Coronado Room on Saturday, March 3rd at 5 PM.

THERE ONCE WAS A MAN…

A huge man with undeniable talent… Who had the ability to touch one’s soul… With art, drama and public service And most of all teaching…

His hands were strong and… Yet so delicate and precise to the touch… His eyes saw the detail of faint shad-ows… His mind saw endless possibilities… And timeless beauty he created…

Tirelessly, he took the time… To share his talents and teach so many others… So they too could smile from the heart… And be so proud of the expression… They had created… well almost… by themselves…

For a long, long time and with all… He would selfishly delve in with a smile… And quickly add correcting touches… All the while teaching how… To master the subtlety of the art form…

Yes, he was a huge man with undeni-able talent… Who had the ability to touch one’s soul… Thru art, drama and public service… And most of all teaching… All he touched aspired because of him…

February! The month of hearts and flowers! It is also the month to check and see how we are do-ing with our New Year Resolu-tions. Last but certainly very im-portant, Ash Wednesday, the be-ginning of Lent. Ash Wednesday begins on Valentine’s Day!

The Rosary remains on the Church “Ordinary Time” schedule of Tuesday mornings @ 8:00 a.m. in the Chapel. This schedule will continue until Ash Wednesday on February 14th.

The Divine Mercy group will meet on the First and Third Tuesday’s of the month @ 10:15 a.m. in the Board Room.

The “UNBOUND” Seminar contin-ues thru February on Tuesday mornings, at the Church Friel Center. Are there things holding you back? Habits, Memories, thoughts that bind you?

Something you may not know … For the first three centuries the Early Church members fasted on Wednesdays AND Fridays. That was to coumarate the day the Ho-ly Spirit came to the UPPER ROOM to give strength to the Apostles. Friday was the day on which Christ died for us so that we can Live. What do you plan on doing during those Forty Days?

God Bless You All, Joyce Lane Lot #1213 1-928-554-6426

This season has been busy at our Li-brary, with residents coming in to find their favorite authors for a good read, sitting to chat with the people working on puzzles and bringing in their donated books. Our shelves are full of wonderful reads from fiction in hard bound and paperback to biog-raphies and travel books.

After my plea last month for DVD do-nations, our shelf is full. Thank you! We also received several newer large print books. We usually don’t keep duplicate titles, but the exception is made if the author is very popular. Case in point is David Baldacci. Three copies of his newest book have been given to us and all were borrowed al-most immediately!

Our audio books on tape seem to be outdated. Most people have vehicles with CD players and not tape players, so we really could use CD’s of books to listen to. (Just a hint if you have any just laying around!) The few that have been donated are being bor-rowed constantly.

If you have been unable to locate a section of books for hobbies, sewing, cooking, photography books (Time Life), etc. they are placed on the back side shelves of the center counter by the National Geographic magazines. The reference books (Atlas, dictionar-ies, thesaurus) are on the lower shelves under biographies.

Enjoy Yuma’s February weather!

The Fitness Club will again be hosting the March Spaghetti Din-ner and we will be asking for vol-unteers. This is our big fund raiser for the season. The dues and proceeds from the dinner are how we raise funds for general maintenance for the Fitness equipment and to purchase equipment as needed. We would like to remind every-one that proper clothing should be worn in the Fitness Room. It is also a Fragrance Free area and we have had complaints about both. Please be courteous to oth-ers in this respect. If you have any issues please report them to one of the Fitness Club Board of Directors. Carla Allen

Country Roads has two outdoor volleyball courts located in the maintenance yard near the west gate. (The area where the Coro-nado Room and the Woodworking shop are located) The courts are hidden behind the oleander hedge. Volleyball Club plays on these courts Monday through Sat-urday starting at 9:00 and we invite anyone in the park that is looking for an activity where they can get some exercise plus have a lot of fun to come and join us. The club plays gals and guys together (Co-ed) and we pick teams by picking a numbered cu-be out of a can. We do this so the new players get to play on teams with the more experienced play-ers. Don't worry if you only played volleyball in high school or college a long, long time ago or never played volleyball period. It's an easy game to learn to play. The Club would like all Home-owners and Renters to keep in mind that during the holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter and Spring Break) that your guest and visitors are welcome to play volleyball with the club. Send them down to the courts in the morning with a bottle of wa-ter and runners on. Better yet bring them down and be sure to bring your camera, we have chairs and benches for specta-tors. The kids will love you to be there to watch them play. We hope you all will come and join in the fun.

Our annual CAN/AM (Canadians vs Americans) Golf Tournament week was in January. The winning Coun-try wasn't announced until after this article went to print ... so we'll have posted it in the bulletin and on the Facebook pages. Several members traveled over to Borrego Springs Resort in Califor-nia to play golf for a couple of days. Such a treat, as the course was in wonderful condition and a good time was had by all. We also had some non-golfers go over and partake in the Spa facilities, so there's a little something for every-one.

The putting greens and driving cag-es are open to all residents and guests of Country Roads. Putters and balls are available in the near-by Golf storage area. The keys that access the outside gates also allow access to the storage area. Club info for new residents to CR: along with our regular six weekly courses to choose from, February also offers organized play at Coyote Wash, Yuma Country Club, Barbara Werth and two days at Emerald Canyon in Parker, AZ. A list of the courses and the days they are played is posted on the bulletin board outside the ball-room, along with a list of all of the Club's upcoming events. Seasonal, monthly and weekly Club member-ships are available.

(continued…)

Seasonal memberships include our closing banquet on March 4th. The Club continues to meet and play golf through the month of March. Members that have guests visiting are wel-come to sign them up for golf (based on space availability) and pay $1 per guest/per course. If you are unable to make the Monday morning meeting (8:00amin the Ball-room), the sign-up sheets for the following week are on the clipboard by our bulletin board, outside the ballroom. Once the current week's pairings and tee times are assigned, they are posted on the bulletin board and also on the Country Roads Guys & Gals Golf Group Face-book page. Don't hesitate to call or email me with any ques-tions.

Every Sunday Pastor Andrew shares an inspi-rational biblical message which is complemented with the beau-tiful choral music of the Country Roads Choir.

It is that time of year again when some of our CRCC Board member’s terms will expire. Po-sitions for two women and two men will be open for three year terms, 2018-2021. Please con-tact Chairman Jake Hoekstra at 360-255-1595 or any Board Member if you would like to serve.

Welcome to those who have just ar-rived for the short winter season. If you were involved with Men's Fellow-ship last year, we are up and going full steam. If you are new to the park or have not been before, come join us. As you know men like to talk about their golf game, favorite sports team or the activities they are involved in at Country Roads. They want to hear about the concerns in the lives of their friends and even the friends of their friends. And they will even sit still long enough to be encouraged, in-formed and sometimes challenged to be all they can be as men, in an ac-cepting Christian atmosphere.

All of the above and more happens in Men's Fellowship on Wednesday mornings at 7:15am in the Aztec/Inca rooms. It's the closest thing we have to a man cave at Country Roads. If you have not tried it, you are invited to do so. Jerry Opp #1147

In January, we split our large In-troduction to Line Dancing class into two groups, because we were running out of room in the ballroom! Now that is a very good problem to have; many Country Roads residents are com-ing out to enjoy the fun, exercise, and good mental and social bene-fits of learning how to line dance! Carol and Jan are now teaching the beginners in Line Dance one, which runs from 9:45 to 10:30 every Saturday morning, and JoAnn is teaching the more experienced line dancers in Line Dance 2, from 10:30 to 11:15 AM on Saturdays. Many thanks go out to our sound guy, Bill Greenhalgh, who makes it all happen each week! Please stop by the ballroom and join with us in a great start to the weekend!

The new calendar year is upon us and Marketing is in full swing. We have several projects in vari-ous stages of development, which makes for an exciting time to be part of the Country Roads commu-nity,

We welcomed about 40 new resi-dents to the Village on January 4 as they attended our WELCOME TO COUNTRY ROADS orientation program. Lots of good information was shared by presenters and good questions were asked. In a survey asking how they found out about Country Roads, the majority indi-cated that friends and family en-couraged them, but about five cou-ples listed various marketing efforts—WEB, newspaper ad, con-tact at informational shows. Our last WELCOME meeting will be Thursday, February 8, at 1:00pm in the Ballroom. Encourage your new neighbors to attend.

Our Country Roads Video efforts are right on schedule. The script was finalized in January and film-ing will take place during Febru-ary. Various clubs and organiza-tions will be contacted regarding the best time to film them. Not every program will be filmed, but a good representation of activities will be part of the video. There will be some testimonials and shots of areas around Yuma where Country Roads residents like to play. (continued…..)

On Saturday, February 17 from 9:00am-1:00pm, we will be part of the BOOMERS AND BEYOND program at the Civic Center. This will be a great opportunity to visit with many Yuma Winter Visitors about events at Country Roads, but more importantly an opportunity to discuss with them the advantages of living at Coun-try Roads. We will probably be one of only three or four other RV Resorts promoting.

The Realty Agency will be con-ducting two Open Houses in Feb-ruary. One will be in conjunc-tion with the Walk and Shop on February 10 and the other on February 24. These Open Hous-es begin at 9:00am at the real estate office and conclude by noon. It is a great way to see about 12 homes. The December Open House resulted in three sales. Ambassadors will be as-sisting Kristin Collings in trans-porting potential buyers.

Marketing of the Sunrise Café will be more prevalent during February as we try to get more info out about our quality break-fasts and lunches and regular specials. Everyone should try the Sunrise Café. Frank is a great chef.

Another successful annual Em-ployees Appreciation Event took place this season. I think every-one that attended would agree that there was definite apprecia-tion on the faces of our employ-ees as we watched Valeri Shoe-maker, our fantastic emcee, call each one to the podium, gave them a hug, a bonus gift and in-formed us their position and what they do all year to make this a great Country Roads Park.

As they returned to their desig-nated table they were informed the special handcrafted pottery dish of candy wrap in cellophane and a bow was an appreciation gift from the Pottery Club. Thank you homeowners, renters, Country Roads Board of Direc-tors, Pottery Club for your dona-tions, potluck dishes and attend-ing to show the true gift of love and appreciation. To make this all possible I want to thank my committee: Diana McMath, Mari-lyn Moore, Vern Davis, Alli Steebergen and Jerri-Lou Bar-rett.

Also a big thank you for helping my committee with the serving, setting up and cleaning up: Dan Davis, Ron Moore, Jill Blazier Ann Mocan, Earl Caylor and Bob and Barbara Taylor. As well as Larry Draftin on the sound sys-tem. A BIG THANK YOU also to Charles Scott for the additional idea to use our large screen to display scenery and the words to Feliz Naviad. Our entertain-ment by “The Yuman Beings” consisting of Joyce Brown, her sister Nancy Nix, Jo Nightingale, Peggy Scott, Rita Derksen Susan Andreeff and Karl Rye. Thank you all, lots of good compli-ments. Thank you Pat Tuckwell, CR Board of Directors President for informing us how the Em-ployee of the Year Ismael Flores deserved this honor and present him a plaque and a gift card.

This event was definitely a time of appreciation for our employ-ees and the atmosphere in the ballroom radiated with the true meaning of Christmas.

Come and listen to what they have to say. The candidates will each be given up to five (5) minutes to tell you about themselves and what they can contribute to our park. For the second segment, it is your chance to ask the candidates questions, so be thinking what you might want to ask the candidates. Both of these candidates are rela-tively new to our park, so this is your opportunity to become better acquainted with them, come and listen to what their thoughts and ideas are.
