STEWART HOUSE

SPORTS NEWS Congratulations to Halle who last Monday represented both herself and Alfords Point Public School at the Engadine Zone Soccer Trials. She impressed the selectors with her skills. Halle was successful in being selected to be part of the Zone team and she then progressed to the Regional Trials. Tomorrow Luca, Lucas, Jayden and Perry will be representing themselves and Alfords Point Public School at the Engadine Zone Soccer Trials. We wish them the best of luck as they display their talents on the soccer field. Last Tuesday several of our students attended the Zone Swimming Carnival at Engadine Pool. Many family and friends came along to support our swimmers. Each of the students did their best gaining many points for our school. Thank you to the parents who assisted with timekeeping; Johnny Petkovski, Megan Brice, Julianne Parsons, George Ordenes and Karen Morgan. Congratulations to Patrick, Anthony and Amy, who qualified for their age 50m Freestyle Finals. Amy placed 3rd in the 11yrs 50m Freestyle, 1st in the 11yrs 50m Breaststroke and 4th in the 11yrs 50m Backstroke. Patrick placed 3rd in the Junior 50m Breaststroke, 3rd in the Junior 200m Individual Medley and 3rd in the 9yrs 50m Freestyle. Both Amy and Patrick were rewarded with prestigious Engadine Zone ribbons as well as qualifying for the Sydney East Regional Carnival later this month. For the 8th year in a row Alfords Point Public School had the duty of organising the Engadine Zone Swimming Carnival with myself as Swimming Convenor. This organisation is quite a huge job and without the support of Mrs Adderley, all administration and teaching staff of Alfords Point Public School prior to the Carnival, and then, at the Carnival, offers to be volunteers by parents, along with the Officiating by Mrs Davis and our Team Manager Mrs Rider the Carnival would not have run so well. As Convenor my job is to then organise the Zone team for Sydney East Regional Carnival at Homebush on Tuesday 19 March. This organisation is a mammoth job and without the support of Mrs Davis and Mrs Rider the necessary paperwork, data entries and calculations would not be able to be completed. Once again the Alfords Point community has worked together in partnership to make these carnivals successful events. Congratulations to all. The students are the winners. All is booked for the Annual Cross Country Carnival which will be held this term on Friday April 5 at Coachwood Oval. This term during sport time students in Years K – 6 have been stretching, warming up, running and warming down as part of their preparation for this event. Out of school hours students should be continuing their training program beginning with some brisk walking and leading into jogging, of course always with parental permission and supervision. At the carnival Kindergarten will run 400m, Year 1 600m, Year 2 800m, 8, 9 and 10 Year olds will run 2km and 11, 12 and 13 Year olds will run 3km. Keep up the training everyone! Over the next two to three Fridays sport students in Years 3 – 6 will be participating in trials for Winter PSSA teams. This year, 2019, there will be one Junior Soccer team, one Senior Soccer team, two Junior Netball teams and two Senior Netball teams. Students who are not part of the PSSA squad, during the Winter PSSA season, will be participating in a variety of ball games focusing on further developing skills used in the games of Soccer and Netball. On Friday 22 March students in years 3 – 6 will be participating in their regular morning sport; however, it will be during the afternoon session as Alfords Point Public School will be celebrating Grandparents day during the morning. Debbie Burke Once again the Stewart House Donation Drive is on. The envelopes will be sent home with the eldest child this week. If you wish to donate, please complete the details on the back of the envelope and place a $2 coin or equivalent in the envelope. Please return all completed envelopes back to the office by Monday 27 May for collection by Stewart House. Thank you.

The upcoming State Election on Saturday 23 March provides us with a great opportunity to raise funds for our school. Many people will pass through the polling booths at Alfords Point Public School, hopefully looking for a BBQ sausage! Similar to previous years, our specific goal is to raise funds to contribute to the Year 6 Farewell Event held in December. For this fundraiser to be a success, we need as many parents as possible to lend a hand for just a few hours on the day. It would be great if every Year 6 parent could assist at some point during the day. Please lend a hand for this fundraiser. Many hands make light work and this fundraising opportunity will benefit all our Year 6 students. If you are able to assist with the BBQ, please click on the link below and fill in your name and contact details next to the time you are available to help http://bbq.pjs.net.au Year 6 Parent Coordinators Thank you to the following volunteers for Week 7: Tia C Jess T Thank you to all those who have volunteered and helped.
