What We've Been Up To
Since the holidays, we
have kept busy with Israeli
visitors, community
events, cultural ensembles
and presentations and the
continuous expansion of
Canada-Israel business
and political relations.
NATAL (Israel's Trauma
and Resiliency Center)
Maya Tadmor- Anderman (Director of Strategic Partnerships) and Dr. Tamar Lavi (Director
of Community Outreach and an Educational Psychologist) from NATAL visited Toronto for
the 8th annual conference hosted by The Canadian Institute for Military and Veteran
Health Research (CIMVHR), in partnership with the Invictus Games Toronto 2017.
Israel's Trauma and Resiliency Center, Natal, is an organization providing multidisciplinary
treatment and support to victims of trauma due to terror and war in Israel.
Accompanied by members of the Consulate, they had the opportunity to meet with
the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, headed by Patricia Li, Assistant
Deputy Minister, Orgne and The Niagara Emergency Medical Services to discuss possible
collaborations between Canada and Israel in the field of trauma and wellness.
They also met with EMAT's (the Emergency Medical Assistance Team) Senior Executives
and Toronto EMS, CAMH- Centre for Addiction and Mental Health and Mount Sinai
Hospital to discuss challenges concerning mental health and solutions for wellness.

Celebrating Democracies
On the 26th of September, we were invited by the Canada India Foundation to celebrate inclusivity and Democracies in Canada, India and Israel. CG Baram spoke alongside India's Ambassador and CG Dinesh Bhatia, MP Ramesh Sangha-Chair of Canada-India Parliamentary Friendship Group; and MPP Amrit Mangat. We were very impressed by the Indian, Canadian and Israeli dance groups. What a night of festivities and exchange of cultural similarities.Thank you to the Canada-India Foundation for honoring us at this incredible event.

CG Baram, together with visiting Knesset Members Dr. Anat Berko and Yoel Hasson (Co-Chairs
of the Israel-Canada Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group), attended the Keren Hayesod-
United Israel Appeal International Leadership Conference.
At the opening dinner, they had the pleasure of meeting Ambassador Danny Danon - דנון דני -
(Permanent Representative of Israel to the United Nations); Hon. Stephen Harper (former
Prime Minister of Canada); and Mayor of Toronto, John Tory among others.

Expanding Canada- Israel Relations
Early this month, CG Baram met with Minister
and MPP Laura Albanese (Citizenship and
Immigration).
They had an excellent discussion regarding
multiculturalism and inclusivity in Canada.

Knesset Members Dr. Anat Berko and Yoel
Hasson, Co-Chairs of the Israel-Canada Inter-
Parliamentary Friendship Group, escorted by
CG Galit Baram, visited Queen's Park on
October 16th. They attended a multi-party
round table with MPPs Gila Martow; Cheri
DiNovo; Paul Miller; Jim McDonell and Mike
Colle, Assistant to the Minister of Labour.

Israeli artist Assaf Kehati performed his
upcoming 4th album in Edmonton on
October 13th.
The album was dedicated to jazzy
arrangements of some favourite pop tunes
such as Englishmen In New York (Sting), Boat
On The River (Styx), Marlene On The Wall
(Suzanne Vega) and Enjoy The Silence
(Depeche Mode), as well as songs from other
albums. Songs ranged from jazz standards,
to original modern compositions.
Noa Raviv
On Oct 13-14, Noa Raviv, a world renowned
Israeli designer participated at the Body
Object Enclosure Exhibition and symposium
held at the Ryerson School of Interior Design
They had a fruitful discussion on bilateral
cooperation between Israel and Canada and in
particular Israel-Ontario relations in the areas
of trade, academia, culture, innovation and
technology, and the situation in the Middle
East.
Together with CG Galit Baram, the two MKs
were joined by Rabbis from all denominations
and community leaders and representatives
from CIJA, UJA Federation of Greater
Toronto, B'nai Brith Canada, and CJPAC for an
open and frank discussion regarding Israel-
Diaspora relations.

Toronto to Ottawa and Montreal.

Noa displayed her work in Manus x Machina:
Fashion in an Age of Technology exhibit at
the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Since then,
Raviv has moved to New York and joined the
New Museum's incubator, New Inc.
Yotam Ottolenghi
On Tuesday, October 10,
the Schwartz/Reisman Centre hosted a
special evening for Yotam Ottolenghi, author
of five NYTs best-selling cookbooks,
including the multi-award winning Jerusalem.
Heather Reisman, (Chief Booklover and Chair
and CEO of Indigo) moderated the event,
which showed some of the most cutting-
edge developments in Israeli and
Mediterranean cuisine.
Culinary inspirations and cooking
methodology were presented with longtime
collaborator and Sweet co-author Helen Goh.
Haifa University Gala
The Canadian Friends of Haifa University
hosted their Mount Carmel Gala on Sunday,
October 22. CG Baram brought greetings and
spoke about the uniqueness of Haifa
University and their academic achievements.
Avi Benlolo
(President and CEO, Canadian Friends of
Simon Wiesenthal Center) received an
Honorary Doctorate and Dr. Peter Rosenbaum
(McMaster University, Department of
Pediatrics and co-founder of Canchild) was
honored as well.
Canchild is a non-profit research and
educational center located within the School
of Rehabilitation Science at McMaster
University. Their research is focused on
improving lives of children with a variety of
developmental conditions and their families.

Meitar Ensemble Tour Crossing Canada. Meitar Ensemble with Pierre-André Valade
(conductor), Roy Amotz (flute), Gilad Harel
(clarinet), Moshe Aharonov (violin/viola), Yoni
Gotlibovitch (cello) and Amit Dolberg (piano) set
out on their special cross-Canada tour from October
19th until 27
th. Our Culture Officer, Victor
Vazquez, attended their Toronto show. They have
performed in Winnipeg, Calgary and Montreal
as well. The Meitar Ensemble, founded in 2004 by artistic
director Amit Dolberg and based in Tel-Aviv is an
array of virtuosos specializing in contemporary
music who have been invited to play at some of the
most prestigious places in the world.

Israel Philharmonic Orchestra
The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra will
perform a one-time show in Toronto on
October 28th, 2017 at the Roy Thompson
Hall. This is their first time in Canada in26
years.
Toronto Symphony Orchestra describes the
Israel Philharmonic Orchestra (IPO) as "one
of Israel's oldest and most influential cultural
institutions." Since its founding in 1936, the
IPO has dedicated itself to presenting the
world's greatest music to audiences in Israel
and around the world. The Conductor
Zubin Mehta is an Indian conductor of
Western classical music. He is the Music
Director of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra,
with which he has conducted over three
thousand concerts over five decades. After
50 years of a wonderful career Mehta is
retiring in October of 2019. More Information

Film Screening
TJFF and the Anne Tanenbaum Centre for
Jewish Studies at the University of Toronto
will present Israeli Series 'Your Honor',
winner of the Grand Prix at 'Series Mania'
French television festival, this November 5th
and November 12th. The screening will take
place at Innis Town Hall on Sunday
November 5th and 12th from 2pm-6pm. Series
co-creator and writer Shlomo Mashiach will
be a guest on November 12th.

Six Sense to Open Their First Resort in
Eilat

"Six Senses has revealed plans to open its first
resort in Israel, close to the Red Sea
destination of Eilat.
The Six Senses Shaharut will be based in the
Negev Desert's Arava Valley - a 45-minute
drive from Eilat's new airport in southern
Israel.
The resort, which is due to open in November
2018, will have 58 suites and villas, including a
three-bedroom retreat.
