NEWSLETTER NUMBER 3, TERM 3

TUESDAY, JULY 26th, 2016

SCHOOL HOMEPAGE - http://www.olshmerbein.catholic.edu.au

SCHOOL PHONE NUMBER: 03 50252258

Dear Parents and Friends,

I spoke to Julie Phelan at the year 5/6 camp last night, and

they were battling the elements with the students in

Daylesford. It is drier this morning, and they are managing

some horse riding in 3 degrees! All are safe and well.

Please keep a few particular dates in your diary – earlier

this year we were able to book an Indigenous Cultural

performance for Monday September 5th, so have decided

to use this as a basis for a NAIDOC day. On the day we will

have the performance and some other activities for the

children. If any of our Indigenous families would like to help

with this day, please see me in the next week.

The Parents and Friends committee are running a social

night on Friday September 2nd, which is being run as a

school community event. It will take the form of a Trivia

Night, and will have that social focus, rather than

fundraising. There will be some fun things on the night, and

though there will be challenges, it is not designed for the

experienced outside community trivia night teams.

Our Grandparents Day will be held on the last day of term

3 – Friday September 16th. Michael Breewel will provide

further information about the day further in the

newsletter.

Chris Brouwers,

Principal.

Expectations

Our big push at the moment is the reduction of rubbish in

the yard. Please remind your children about rubbish going

in the bin, and using the recycle bin appropriately. I have

had some really good responses on other levels – thanks

for your support.

Landscaping

We have done some clearing at the front of the school, and

the large trees were taken down near the main gate. This

was done on the advice of a qualified arborist. There were

concerns about the long term viability of these trees due to

their closeness and stunted root systems. We also removed

some of the trees around the playground to allow those

that are left to develop properly, as they were

overcrowded.

We will plant lawn across the front of the school and plant

4-6 small uniform trees across there.

Devices at School

We are starting to get an overabundance of children

bringing devices and phones to school, and a number of

these are not necessary. If you are picking up and dropping

off your child please keep the device at home or in the car.

If there is no need to bring one, please ensure your child

doesn’t.

Church Air Conditioning

Many thanks to John Dimasi, who organised a number of

other families as well as his own, to make a large

contribution to the cost of reverse cycle air conditioning in

our Parish Church. Thank you to everyone else who

contributed in as well. Special thanks also to Longy’s

Electrical who did the job at cost to help out John and the

parish. Bryce’s information is in this newsletter, and if you

are able to support him as a way of saying thanks, he would

appreciate it.

Planned Giving

We would really appreciate anyone who is happy to help

out our Parish financially through our Planned Giving

program. This is a weekly contribution through envelopes,

direct debit or other electronic transfer. Any of our school

families that would like to set up direct debit Planned

Giving, or get a set of envelopes, whether you are a

parishioner or not, can get details from the school, and we

can set it up for you. Even if it was $5 or $10 a fortnight,

every little bit would help.

Grandparents Day this year will be held on the last day of Term Three - Friday September 16th 2016. All Grandparents or special friends are invited to join us in the Church for Mass at 9.15am. Following Mass children will work with their Grandparents in the classrooms on a fun activity together. Morning tea will be celebrated at 11am.
