It is also great to see students excel in extra curricula activities and demonstrate the college values. There have been many occasions where we have had very positive feedback from the community when our students have been out in the community representing the college showing exemplary behaviour and care for others. One of these occasions was on Remembrance Day, where the SRC Presidents Prishay Sewrathan and Charlotte Weber, with fellow SRC representatives Samuel Bullock and Francesca Alvaro attended the West Torrens memorial service to present a wreath. All members of our college community stood for the minutes silence and displayed their poppies in the foyer to show their respect. The Student Representative Council continues to play an important part in decision-making. The secondary pastoral care program has been renamed Keys to Successcreation of new Student Wellbeing Ambassador group. They have developed an action plan and produced wellbeing resources for other students. Their presentation to Governing Council was excellent and Department for Education has made a video clip of their achievements. Other achievements this term included the Year 11 Drama Production and the Childrens University graduation; where the first group of primary students received their awards at Bonython Hall, University of Adelaide. Building Upgrades As you may be aware, there have been many new improvements in the grounds and facilities and will continue to be a priority. We have also had the foyer paint- ed and work is currently being carried out to create new classrooms ready for increasing enrolments next year. Students have also been active in the upgrades of our facilities. Neil Reichelt, Sharon Illingworth and a group of year 9 and 10 boys have worked together to tile and upgrade the male and female bathrooms. They look fantastic! Our next major upgrade will start next year and a new double storey $3 million Performing Arts Centre will be built, together with upgrades of the art room and classrooms. Students, staff and parents have worked with the architects to create a contemporary vision and space that fosters an excellence in The Arts. Exciting times! Linda Richardson Principal

Wellbeing Connections Over the past six months nine students from the Student Representative Council have been working on a Wellbeing Project that they have since rolled out across the whole College Community. They are now known as Wellbeing Ambassadors and have given up their time to help educate other students about ways in which they can access support if they are struggling with their wellbeing. The Wellbeing Ambassadors started by looking at the Wellbeing & Engagement Collection Data to establish what they thought were the main concerns of students at the school. They then went on to plan and connect with health agencies to learn as much as they could about the support that was available. The outcomes were that the Wellbeing Ambassadors developed two presen-tations in which they now are currently presenting across years 5 to 9. This has also given an opportunity for the secondary students to support the year 6 students with their upcoming transi-tion into year 7. Plympton International College would like to congratulate the Wellbeing Ambassadors for their initiative and care for the College Community. The Department for Education also recently filmed the Wellbeing Ambassadors in action as it has now become an example of best practice in Whole School Wellbeing. Congratulations: Jessica Sharp Grace Bell Ayeeshah Abdul Karim Charlie Skedgwell Zaki Tanauli Paolo Akele Emily Bird Francesca Alvaro Natalya Nugent Cheryl Peat Wellbeing Leader (Secondary) Girls in STEM Recently, as a part of our final involvement for 2019 in the Flinders University STEM Enrichment Academy for Year 9 students, our girls visited Edinburgh RAAF Base - the Defence, Science and Technology Offices. Here we learnt from key women in the field of Defence and STEM professions including facial recognition and A.I., autonomous light armoured vehicles and missile technology amongst many other things. With only 17% of the workforce being female, it presents our girls with amazing workforce opportunities in the near future. As stated this bought to an end our involvement for 2019 in the incredible STEM learning opportunities provided by Flinders University - in particular through the inspiring work of Associate Professor (Physics) Maria Parappilly - Founder of STEM Women Branching out. We look forward to our involvement in this program further in 2020. Associate Professor Parappilly was among the top 22 Adelaide Advertiser amazing women nominated in 2019 for contribution to Education and Politics category. Andrew Charlton STEM Coordinator

Bilingual News In week 5 this term, our school and community were entertained by an impressive perfor-mance by Phap Hoa Lion Dance troupe. The team of young and energetic members per-formed amazing acrobatic stances and tricks to keep the audience engaged throughout their performance. On the same day, all secondary students from our Chinese program had the opportunity to learn basic stances and tricks for lion dance. They had to work in teams and perform in unison. Their accompanying teachers also had the opportunity to learn new steps. Prior to the workshop, our students were learning about the story and history of traditional li-on dance. Through practical learning of the steps and sequences in the workshop, many stu-dents expressed that they have developed interest and deeper understanding of Lion Dance, not only as a performance, but also as one of the longest surviving traditional performances in the world. Our college has purchased a complete set of lion dance equipment, which will arrive early next year. Our students and community will then have more opportunities to learn the lion dance and participate in future performances. In 2017, Plympton International College was selected to become the first Mandarin Bilingual School in South Australia. This year, an external review has taken place with a focus on teaching and learning, as well as curriculum development. The review has found the program to be very successful and has provided some recommendations for future developments. Parents will be surveyed for their input. We will continue to work closely with the department and UniSA to en-sure our students receive the best quality program. The Chief Executive and the Minister have also approved the implementation of the bilingual review recommendations. The findings will be published on the Department for Education website soon. Su Jen Cheong Bilingual Coordinator
