Lost Property We have a mammoth amount of lost property across all ages this term in the rear of the old library. Please have a look for your child/ren’s clothing and shoes if you are at school over the remaining weeks for any reason. The office is also holding two necklaces, (a tree of life, and a pounamu) as well as a blue door key, and a fold up Kathmandu chair if anyone has lost these items.
Please ensure that all children have the appropriate clothing for their daily class sports activities. Shorts and T Shirts are currently required for class athletics & closed shoes for Senior Tech
Chromebook Raffle Tickets are $10.00 per ticket in the school raffle for a brand new ‘chromebook’. Some tickets are still available from the school
Office if any one would like one.
Dear Parents and Caregivers I read recently that our region has had wet weekends for the last seven weeks but I think it might be more, it certainly feels that way. I am just hoping the prickle weed spray I put on had done its thing before the rain came on Saturday evening. I had hoped the Jiddles Block would be ready to go, but things are taking time to work through and I am determined our students will move back into a block ready to go and fit for purpose. As I have mentioned we are locking into place our staffing and classes for next year and this process should be complete in the next week or two. Students as we normally do will have their next year’s class included with their end of year report. If you know of new people arriving in our area or should your family be moving on please do let me know as this will assist the planning process. One change which will occur is that long serving staff member and team leader Aneta Smith will be leaving us. Arnie has won promotion and will take up the deputy principal’s role at Otamarakau in 2018. With us for around 13 years Arnie has made a huge contribution in a number of areas and really is a huge contributor to our school life and culture. Arnie has been undertaking leadership study this year and I know her new school will gain a high quality professional and also be able to help and assist her to grow in the future. I know you will join with me in congratulating her and wishing her all the best for the future. Additionally, Emma Fletcher has won a permanent position at Arataki School. Although with us only a short time, Emma who was in a fixed term role, fitted in perfectly and understood the Pongakawa second home philosophy. We also wish her all the best. We hope to have our new Facebook page up and running very shortly and this will give us another vehicle to stay connected with you. Naturally, we will have a moderator etc and alongside some of our other apps it will let you see and be able to enjoy the daily activities at Pongakawa. Our usual internet protocols will be retained to ensure online safety for everyone. Once the final set up is complete the Board will give it the big tick and it will go live. We have begun to send out chromebooks to those of you who indicated you would like one and we have some of the first order left and available. Some parents are choosing the four payment option and when this occurs we place a name on the box and keep it ready for you. Also, we have a few tickets left in our chromebook raffle and these can be purchased for ten dollars at the office. It is limited to 100 tickets so those are pretty good odds. Have an outstanding week. Yours in teaching Craig Haggo Principal
