If you were fortunate enough to be part of the audience at yesterday’s concert to celebrate the conclusion of another outstanding musical opportunity for our students, then you will be as excited and as proud as I am. To hear students, who have only just begun their musical journey less than six months ago, perform with such confidence and musicality was inspiring. The Senior Band, again, entertained and performed at the very highest level. The camp provided an opportunity for schools from around our district to come together and create strong partnerships and beauful music. The effort, experse and dedicaon of Mrs Skerri, Mrs Bruggemann, and Mr Garven are the driving forces behind this great event. I know they would like to sincerely thank all those who supported and contributed to the success of the camp. Our talented music tutors - Mr Moore, Mrs Ridgewell, Mrs Irving, Mr Pole, Mr Spence and Isaac Bruggemann provided expert tuion and guidance. Mrs Regan and Mr Richardson were an invaluable support in so many aspects of camp life and their contribuon was so appreciated. The students from Camden Haven High School were an outstanding example of youthful exuberance, responsibility and mentoring. If you were unlucky enough not to have heard the bands yesterday all is not lost. They will be appearing at CHAFFS on Wednesday 22 August and everyone is invited to aend. Thank you and congratulaons to all concerned. Principal’s Message connued on page 2 PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE (continued) Quality Teaching Rounds As part of our ongoing commitment to professional development during Term 3 staff will be involved in collegial reflection and coding of demonstration lessons. Teams of teachers will observe lessons and then code the lesson against the Quality Teaching Framework. The three domains of Intellectual Quality, Quality Learning Environment and Significance will guide the observation. Every staff member has a Performance Development Plan (PDP), which is developed, implemented and evaluated annually. Staff develop professional goals, which are directly linked to our school plan and their own professional aspirations. An aspect of the PDP

process includes two observations of professional practice annually. Our school plan has a strong focus on improving our students’ achievements in writing and numeracy over the next three years. Observation teams will review lessons and code on a scale of 1-5 against the agreed aspects of the Quality Teaching Framework. Kind regards,

Christine Wild Principal

INTELLECTUAL QUALITY QUALITY LEARNING ENVIRONMENT SIGNIFICANCE

Deep Knowledge Explicit Quality Criteria Background Knowledge

Evident when teacher/learner provides information, reasoning or arguments that address the centrality or complexity of a key concept or idea.

Evidenced by frequent, detailed and specific statements about the quality of work sought.Becomes the reference point for teachers/learners to develop and check work, both their own and others.

Learners have opportunities to make connections between their knowledge experience and the substance of the lesson. May include prior school knowledge, cultural knowledge, personal experience, knowledge of media and popular culture.

Deep Understanding Engagement Cultural Knowledge

Evident when learners explore relationships, solve problems, construct explanations and draw conclusions in relatively systematic, integrated or complex ways.

On task behaviours that signal a serious investment in work. Behaviours include sustained interest and attentiveness, individual focus, enthusiasm, initiative, group contribution.

An understanding, valuing and acceptance of traditions beliefs, skills, knowledge, languages, practices and protocols of diverse social groups.

Problematic Knowledge High Expectations Knowledge Integration

Understanding that knowledge is not a fixed body of knowledge for information but socially constructed and subject to political, social and cultural influences and implications that should be questioned.

Evident when learners are encouraged and recognised for taking conceptual or other risks in learning. Learners at all levels are expected, and try, to master challenging work.

Identifiable when meaningful connections are made between different topics and/or between different subjects.

Higher-order Thinking Social Support Inclusivity

Learners manipulate information/ideas in ways that transform their meaning and implications. Transformation occurs when learners combine facts/ideas in order to synthesise, generalise, explain, and hypothesise.

Evident when learners are encouraged to try hard and risk initial failure in a climate of mutual respect. Comments and actions encourage and value effort, participation and expression of one’s view in the pursuit of learning.

Evident when all learners, from all cultural or social backgrounds, participate in the public work of the class and when their contributions are taken seriously and valued.

Metalanguage Students’ Self-regulation Connectedness

High levels of talk about language and about how texts work. Frequent opportunities are taken to draw attention to particular aspects of texts.

Learning proceeds without interruption and learners demonstrate autonomy and initiative in relation to their own behaviour.

Evident when learning has value and meaning beyond the classroom or school.

Substantive Communication Student Direction Narrative

Evident in learning where there is sustained interaction, communication is focused on the substance of the lesson and interaction is reciprocal.

Learners exercise control over choice of activities, time spent on activities, pace of learning and criteria by which they will be assessed.

Evident when stories written, told, read, viewed or listened to help illustrate or bring to life the knowledge that learners are addressing.

Moving NAPLAN online brings many new opportunities for students and teachers that are limited or not possible with paper-based tests.

The benefits of online assessments Some of the main benefits of students taking part in NAPLAN Online include: Better assessment – and more precise results NAPLAN Online uses a tailored test or adaptive design, where the test automatically adapts to a student's performance and asks questions that match the student achievement level, allowing the student to demonstrate their knowledge. This provides teachers and schools with more targeted and detailed information on students’ performance on the tests. Tailored testing also provides an opportunity to broaden the scope of the assessments.

Faster turnaround of results Delivery of assessments online significantly reduces the time it takes to provide feedback to schools, students and parents, so teachers can respond more quickly to learning needs.

More engaging ACARA research into online assessment has shown that students have engaged well with electronic tests.

NAPLAN is moving online. This means moving NAPLAN from the current paper-based tests to computer-based assessments. The transition to NAPLAN online will commence this year. Our school will be conducting readiness tests throughout Week 6 of Term 3. These tests will not be marked. They are simply completed by students to ensure the system works efficiently prior to 2019 when the NAPLAN testing migrates online.

Open Day Friday 10 August The canteen will be providing morning tea for visitors attending Open Day. Any donations of cake, slice or biscuits for the morning tea would be greatly appreciated. Please provide a list of ingredients and avoid using nuts. Thank you for your support.

PSSA Knockout Football

The boys & girls football teams came up against Harrington Public School last week in round 3. The boys played a great game of soccer keeping Harrington out and managing to put away 5 goals while doing so. Noah and Cohen Model both scored two goals each and Nate Boyan scored one. The girls also managed to have a 6-0 win over Harrington with Emily Franklin scoring four goals, Zoe Boland and Cleo Bell scoring the other two goals. Both wins saw our teams continue on to Round 4. The boys competed against Tacking Point PS and following a hard match the boys came out at a loss of 7-0. The girls came up against Hastings PS and unfortunately couldn't get the goals needed to take out a win. They were defeated 3-1. Both teams can be congratulated on their team spirit and sportsmanship. Special mention to Georgia Drewitt for some spectacular saves in the second game, holding the score lower than it could have been. Well done to all players. Mr Harper and Mrs Bell Football Coaches

Premier’s Debating Challenge

Accolades to Jade Buscall, Jasmine McCarthy, Charlotte Rumbelow and Alana Toogood who competed in the Premier’s Debating Challenge on Thursday, 26 July. Going up against the debating stalwarts Tacking Point PS, Hastings PS and Port Public PS, our girls courageously argued and defended their way through three debates covering the topics 'Parents Must Play Weekend Sport', 'Social Media for Children under 18 Years Should be Banned' and 'We Should Only Ever Give Students Feedback Instead of Marks'. Despite all their hard work in the weeks prior and their best efforts on the day, the girls will not be progressing to the next round. A huge congratulations to the girls! Standing up in front of your peers and speaking with very little preparation can be one of life's most nerve-racking experiences and we are immensely proud of them! Mrs Manning Debating Coach
