Principal’s Report
Return to school for all students from Tuesday 9 June.
We all look forward to catching up with everyone on Tuesday when our 7-10 students return from remote learn-
ing.
For our parents/guardians and students in years 7-10 I would like to outline a few points.
The canteen is open but only for touch on purchases
Buses are running as normal. We note that fewer students than expected are using the buses.
Parents can drop off students along Capital Avenue, Troy Street and the surrounding streets.
School times are the same as normal.
Lockers are closed so students need to bring a bag and a water bottle
We understand that a number of families have downloaded the COVID app. As such, students can bring
their phone to school but it must not be used during school hours.
Students need to bring in their BYOD because school desktops are not available. Students must bring
their device to all maths classes.
Students who have PE on that day are to come to school in full PE uniform.
Students should have their own safety glasses for Science and their own lab coat or an old non polyester shirt.
Students may use gloves but as per the chief medical officer’s recommendation, masks are not encouraged.
The school has soap and sanitiser for students but we encourage students to bring in and use a small bottle
of their own sanitiser.
If your child is sick they need to stay at home.
Mathematics
All students are required to bring their BYOD (bring your own device) to all mathematics classes as of Tuesday 9th
June 2020.
Students may be required in their mathematics classes to access Mathspace, Edrolo (VCE), use MS teams, upload
completed work into MS teams or learning tasks in Compass, access class notes, worksheets or assignments in
Resources in Compass.
To lighten the load in their school bag students won’t need to bring their mathematics textbook to school as the
chapters they are working on and the answers will be uploaded to Resources in compass for them to access.
The BYOD form needs to completed to access the schools internet. If a student has not got a device they should
request to borrow one from the school.
Report Writing day
Friday 19th June will be a report writing day. No students are required at school. We anticipate providing modified
Semester one reports before the end of term 2.
Remote Teaching statistics
The attendance rates for our remote teaching continue to be above 97% for all year levels. Across the seven week
period we have been very happy with the commitment of students. I believe that as a learning community we have
all gained important skills and knowledge. Our challenge is therefore to recognise the learnings of remote teaching
and capitalise on its strengths in our normal face to face teaching. This will certainly be a focus as we develop our
new school strategic plan.
Student work station competition
I would like to announce the final winners for our remote teaching competition are:
Congratulations to all of our winners.

Music News 5th June 2020
Return to Face to Face Teaching
The music team look forward to welcoming all students back to school next week. It has been great having the VCE students return to face to face lessons over the past couple of weeks. As all students return next week, please take note of the following:
Students must bring their instrument (either their own or their allocated hire instrument) for lessons. We aren’t able to use spare school instruments at this stage, except in situations where only one student plays that specific instrument. Students should use hand sanitiser before and after their music lesson.
Rooms may be changed at times, so please check Compass and/or any signs up in the music area carefully.
Music Rooms will not be available to use at lunchtimes for the time being, with the exception of students studying VCE Music Performance who need to work on their program. Please let your teacher know if you are sick or unable to attend your lesson for any other reason, so that work can be provided or alternative arrangements made. Please don’t congregate in the instrument storage area and please use the hand sanitiser if you need to move another instrument to get to your own.
Ensembles
Most ensembles will not be starting again until term three. There may be some changes to groups or how groups operate. This will be advised once details are finalised. Some senior groups may have rehearsals this term – directors will inform students of this and the rehearsals will appear on Compass. The AT529 Orchestra class will also still be running, so students in this class should bring their instruments for each lesson.
Grand Piano Fundraiser
At the Winter Concert in 2019, we launched a fundraiser for a performance level grand piano for the theatre. We believe that such an instrument will greatly enhance our music program, with piano being used in many of our ensembles and to accompany soloists and small groups. We welcome all contributions to the grand piano fund, and are particularly encouraging members of the school community to donate one key of the piano at $200. If you have donated one or more keys, please don’t forget to drop into the office to sign your name on the keyboard print. We are currently at about 2/3 of our target. If you are interested in contributing, please see below for further details.
CONTACT INFORMATION
During the school lockdown it was noted that a number of families had the wrong contact information
listed on Compass. It is important, especially in the current situation, that we have the correct
information. Could you please check the contact information we have listed for you. If there are any
corrections needed please email them to [email protected]
