Dear Families,

Building: We are due to have another meeting with all groups involved in the building program due to commence over the holiday period. We will have further details regarding the weeks ahead which I will pass on before the school vacation. Needless to say the timeline is tight! What needs to be undertaken?

1. We have hired a container which has been filled with Fair infrastructure. This will be taken off site early next term (Please see Help!! Section of newsletter). This has freed up the 2 sheds which normally have Fair gear in them. We will use these for any “excess” furniture etc not needed during the refurbishment.

2. We will contact the 3 classes which need to be moved (Year 2s) and the year 1 support area to new locations. This will probably be for 5-6 months maximum.

The 3 new classrooms are the library, the ICT Lab adjacent to the library room and the third class will be in the “spare” classroom next to the year 4 classes.

I will write to the classes affected separately to ensure this information is known.

3. When the renovated classrooms are ready we will move the 3 classes back into their areas and decant the remainder of classes in the South Wing.

4. Moving day for the first part of the refurbishment will be this Thursday. Classrooms affected will be moved to their new room and excess furniture moved into the sheds.

Peter Dearnley’s room: Over the holiday period the carpet in this room will be changed. We have delayed this in the hope that it would become our Art room if a 2 storey solution was possible in the South Wing.

Again we will be taking all furniture out of Peter’s room while this is being undertaken.

I will write to this grade with further details tomorrow also.

Fair: Great night but not without its challenges!!!!!

Thank you to all for your work and support both pre, post and on the night. The set up was made difficult with the weather but we stuck at it and made the Fair happen. It remained an enjoyable night for all. We adapted, worked tough and succeeded in having a great night. Congratulations to all!

The financial result, at this time, is around $26,000! Given the weather we should be very proud of this.

We returned the school ready for the children on Saturday morning. A great team made that happen so on behalf of our students, thank you.

Managers and volunteers did a terrific job in organising and ensuring each stall had personnel and produce.

Sponsors: Again thank you for your support of our school.

To ensure we are on the right track please email the school on [email protected] to supply your

thoughts. All feedback ensures the continued success of our community fundraising event. Thank you in advance,

the Fair Committee.

Student Raffle: Tickets are $2 each or $5 for 3 tickets. These hampers are very attractive and we thank Ghanda, The Food Purveyor and Geelong Confec-tionery for their donations.

Sales at lunchtimes. Tickets drawn at assembly on April 5.

Grange Raffle: Limited tickets are available via the office. Do not miss this opportunity to become the most popular person in our community. If you can not make it into the office please call 5221 2738 and we can process payment over the phone via credit card.

The draw will also occur at Friday’s assembly.

VATI: Congratulation to Grace who was a key note speaker at the Victorian Association Teachers Italian conference on the weekend. Grace received extremely positive feedback on her presentation and her program with our school.

End of Term

What a busy but very fruitful term we have had.

Congratulations and thank you to all for the work with :

· The Chilwell Fair.

· Settling all children into the school routine. This is especially relevant to families of our Prep children.

· Cross country.

· Parent teacher interviews.

· Once again our children achieving outstanding results in the annual NAPLAN assessment results. (2018).

· Introduction of new families to Chilwell.

· Various excursions and walks which enhanced our curriculum delivery.

· School Council elections.

· Parent as Helpers Program.

And many more activities and challenges that I cannot think of at the moment!

Congratulations and thank you to all for the work, commitment and support we give to each other. The strength of this school is many in number but the support is at the centre of that strength.

I can statements: Staff continually update these statements of children ’s learning. They reflect learning out-comes your child has achieved, what they are currently working on and what will be the next areas to be studied. This is valuable information not only for staff but parents and children.

Accessing these learning outcomes is via SENTRAL using your individual password. The statements are open for families to look at now until the end of week 1, term 2.

Out of School Hours Care: Accounts need to be settled ASAP so that we are able to start term 2 debt free. If debts are not settled the children are not permitted to attend the program until this has occurred. Obviously this is not our wish, however too much time for Cheryl and the school is spent on tracking accounts and sending letters to families who have not settled their accounts. We require all accounts to be in a positive position throughout the term.

Early dismissal A reminder that this coming Friday is the end of term 1. As usual we will be dismissing the children at 2.30 preceded by our last assembly which will begin at 2.00 pm.

Again our school crossing supervisors will not be on the job until 2.30 so please be careful crossing any unsupervised roads.

Help:

The school is looking at purchasing a container to take the fair infrastructure off site. Gaining the container is no problem however we need a place to store it. We will arrange delivery and return to school for the Fair in 2020 and subse-quent years. If you have a property or some place it could be stored please contact the of-fice.

Regards

Gavan Welsh, Principal.

Thank you What a fantastic evening we had at the Fair even though the weather was on in our favour.

I would firstly like to thank Gavan, Scott and staff for their support of the Fair. To Helen and Sara in the office, thanks for all your work in the office. To all the Stall Managers that stepped up to take on these posi-tions, it could not happen without you. Thanks to our school community who volunteered to fill all the spaces on the stall rosters.

Finally, to the generous support we received from our sponsors. This was a very successful event and the level of support is well recognised. I look forward to seeing the Chilwell Fair become even more successful in the coming years.

Jason McLaren

It was a very busy and cold night in the “Chilwell Counting House” on Fair Night.

Thank you to our volunteers especially the “retired ones” who gave up their time for the school community.

Lesley Dandy (30+ Fairs), Deb Hose, Louisa Blamires, and Kim Hamilton.

Gavan has not stopped work this term, always focussed on giving our students the best resources possible.

Thanks to Gavan and Scott for letting us take over their offices for the last few weeks and for all of your help with the Fair.

Best leadership team ever!!

Helen & Sara
