Father’s Day

Breakfast - reminder

For the second year running, staff have

organised the Father’s Day breakfast, where

Dads and their children are invited to school to enjoy a

‘just cooked’ hot breakfast of egg and bacon rolls. The

information went home via paper note. For those who

have made their order, please don’t forget this annual

event is happening on Monday, 5th September from

7.30am to 8.45 am in the Multi-Purpose Room.

Grade Two Sleep-Over – first ‘camping’

event for Grade Two children

Friday, 9th September is an exciting time for Grade Two

children as they begin their school camp experience with

an overnight sleep-in at school. The students meet on the

Friday night and set up their ‘bed’ in the middle school

corridor (this could be a blow up mattress, a sleeping

bag, or whatever suits the family best). After some games

and sometimes a G rated movie, the children go to bed

after a snack. Teachers and parents are available over

the night and morning, with the main task encouraging

some students to close their eyes. In the morning,

breakfast is provided by some helpful parents. The

students are collected by their parents, often going home

to have a little more sleep after the excitement of

sleeping with so many friends.

The out of school camping program begins in Grade 3

and a 3 day camp happens each year until, and

including Grade 6. We have four tried and tested camps

we have been using for a while. The Grade 3 and 4

camp usually happens in the second semester, whilst the

Grade 5 and 6 camp happens in the first semester. All

camps are activity based, with ACA accreditation.

Car Parking Improvements

Over the coming holidays some work will be completed to expand our onsite

car parking capabilities.

When the senior school building was completed in 2010, a significant proportion of car

parking was lost. Restoring at least some of this parking has been on the school’s

infrastructure plan since that time. Now that our higher priority infrastructure projects

have been completed (including refurbishment of both the middle school and junior school

buildings, external painting, new fencing and grounds improvements) we are now in a

position to address this problem.

Car parking is one of few sources of disharmony with our local residents. While it is

difficult to solve problems of congestion at pick up and drop off times, taking

responsibility for our car parking requirements for staff and visitors during the school day

is one thing we can do to minimise the impact and be a good neighbour.

Providing adequate car parking is also a service to our staff. Investing in infrastructure

that improves working conditions is one way we can say thank you for the wonderful job

they do, and helps to attract great applicants for future positions.

The new car parking spaces have been designed so that they do not impinge on existing

play spaces. They will be installed along the grassed area at the edge of the driveway

leading into the existing car park. This area is not used as part of the oval, and will not

affect the adjacent shade sail. The work will also include improvements to fencing

between the car park and oval, as well as a proper access point for vehicles onto the

oval for the purpose of maintenance and special events (such as the school fair).

The works will be completed during the upcoming school holidays so there will be no

impact on the students during construction.
