I hope that you all had a restful and relaxing week during the public holidays and ISHCMC holidays.

Our IB Grade 12 Diploma students have begun their final Diploma external examinations. In a few short weeks their ISHCMC and secondary education careers will come to a close. There are many exciting events that will occur for them in the coming weeks, including their Graduation at the Opera House and also their Graduation Dinner at the Intercontinental Hotel. Tickets are priced at VND1,300,000 per person, a discounted rate for child tickets also applies. This is set to be a wonderful celebration that the Grade 12 Parent Committee has worked hard to organize. If you still need to purchase your ticket, please contact to Eva Steinbach by sending an email to: eva.steinbach61@gmail.com. We wish all our Grade 12 students every success for their final examinations.

This week, we are excited to announce the ISHCMC Summer Camp. There will be Robotics, Game Design II, IB Math and English classes plus further camps on offer to offer academic support and interactive engagements over the summer holidays. This will be held during the forthcoming summer holiday with additions from last year’s camp offered. ISHCMC families have an exclusive sign up period until May 22nd. Please be sure to sign up early if you would like your child(ren) to participate in this year’s program. Registration forms can be collected from the Admissions office and forms need to be returned along with payment to the Finance office located on Street 10 in the Administration Building next to the ISHCMC carpark.

The PYP Exhibition is the culminating experience for our Primary students - it gives them the chance to put the knowledge, understandings, skills and attitudes they have developed into action.

This year, students were asked to consider the following central idea:“Self and social awareness challenge us to act on what matters.”

They went through a process of introspection - considering who they are and who they are becoming. They also looked at social issues and considered the ones that affected them the most every day. As a result of this process, the students arrived at something that really matters to them, something that they could do something about or get involved in through the PYP Exhibition. Some examples are friends and relationships, living a fulfilled life, finding green spaces, over-protective parents, gaming addiction, consumerism, passion vs. wealth, judgment on social media, embracing change and many other fascinating topics.

The PYP Exhibition brings the school community together by inviting many people to be part of the experience. Grade 5 parents came in frequently to work with students by sharing ideas, offering advice and making connections. Teachers from across the school also became “Connectors” who spent a lot of time with the students in a mentoring capacity. Secondary students joined in with the process too by helping out with surveys, being interviewed and filmed and developing great relationships with the students by popping in to see how they were getting along.

The whole process culminates with a formal exhibition that is open for visitors for three days. Students, teachers and parents from across the school will come and see what they have been up to and join in the conversations. Students and teachers from other international schools in the city will visit too, as will people from other businesses and organizations that have become involved along the way. Students are challenged to share their learning in ways that are clear, simple, to-the-point and environmentally responsible. They are expected to produce one product that draws attention to them… and then it’s all about conversations!

We are collecting any lose 1000 , 2000 or 5000 dong notes you may have. From one person’s loose note draw we counted 20 US dollars. This money that has little value to us when added together could make a big difference. Any donations that you can make would be greatly appreciated. Please drop your donations to Jenna at the Early Explorers classroom or Ms Joshi in Grade 2C. Grade 2 with be joining EE4 to count up all the money we have raised. One of the recent changes within the MYP is the proposed introduction of eAssessments (online exams) at the end of the programme in Grade 10. ISHCMC has been given the chance to pilot these exams this year. This will give us an excellent opportunity to evaluate the quality and value of these exams ahead of making future decisions regarding their implementation. It will also enable us to give the IB feedback regarding the exams.

The Secondary assembly before the holiday provided an opportunity to acknowledge outstanding student achievement as well as recognise a number of students for their academic growth.

Rizana Tatlock received an award for her excellent grades in the Learning Updates in April – she achieved 7s in all of her subject areas and exceeds expectations in all her engagement levels. Congratulations Rizana.

The following students were commended for having achieved an improvement in their cumulative MYP scores of 4 points or more from the semester one Evaluation of Learning to the Learning Update in April:

The gymnastics team are 25 committed primary and secondary students who have been training twice a week since the start of the school year and as a well-deserved final they have been competing with AIS and BIS at the City Championship – the results have been impressive on each level! Overall the primary students won the championship and in total, both primary and secondary gymnasts won 1s, 2nd and 3rd prizes.

They all looked beautiful in their new kits which were proudly sponsored by the PTO Rhino Hut.

There was a great team spirit and everyone is looking forward for their gymnastic performance at the end of the school year!

Distraction, Multitasking, & Time Management

Technology isn’t going anywhere. But multitasking — specifically media multitasking — is a concern. Some parents feel like kids may benefit from learning how to work around disruptions, since they’re going to need this skill for their entire lives. SUMMER CAMP WORKSHOPS

Robotics WorkshopJuly 27th - 31st, 9:00AM – NoonBased on the LEGO® MINDSTORMS® EV3 robotics kits, this course introduces students to the exciting world of robotics. Students will design, build, and program robots to complete specific challenges and tasks. The students will have an opportunity to apply basic concepts in science, technology, math, and engineering to create their robot and prepare it for the final challenge.

Age Group: For students entering Grade 6 and aboveTuition: 5,375,000 VND Game Design Workshop August 3rd - 7th, 9:00AM – NoonThe Game Design Workshop empowers young coders to apply their imaginations using both software and hardware in real-world projects. Scratch was developed at MIT as a graphical programming language and this course allows students to design and build projects that connect Scratch with the real world using Makey Makey kits.. The course is aimed at students embarking on the IB DP We will focus especially on the most important topics of Arithmetic & Number Properties, Algebra I, Geometry, Trigonometry, Algebra II, and basic Statistics & Probability. Additionally, students will learn to understand and apply the 50 most common formulas in high school Math, which serves many different tests including SAT, AP, and IB.
