Congratulations to Rick Zhang in winning the MUSA Elections for the position of International Students Officer, 2007!

We decided to find out what he has got planned for the term that he is going to serve next year.

He would like to do the following things:

• Voice international student concerns with University, Immigration NZ, Insurance, etc.• Offer more social activities for the international students (i.e.: parties, weekly sports league, cultural programmes, etc)• Bring different international students together (specially the students from countries which have only a few students studying here).• Hold frequent informal gathering in a dedicated space where international students can meet other international students.

We then wanted to find out what the new MUSA International Students Officer expects from the International Students studying at Massey University. Rick wants the international students to come forward and express any concerns and problems that they might be facing, so that he can try and voice the concerns to the appropriate people and see if he can resolve the problem or at least make sure that it’s heard. He also wanted to encourage the students to participate more in activities organised f o r s t u d e n t s , p a r t i c u l a r l y f o r international students.

Rick wanted you to remember one thing: “Stick together and it’s better for all of us!”

Rick Zhang’s e-mail address is : [email protected]

E-Immigration UpdateThe international student support team has been very busy assisting international students to apply for student visas on campus. It takes a short time to get a student visa sticker, and it is simpler and cheaper. Now Immigration NZ and the International Student Support Team are working on the ability to do the 6 month work visa if the international student becomes eligible. The International Student Support Team is confident that this service will be up and running in the near future. Please keep checking our web page for more updated in formation on this possibility.
