CONGRATULATIONS BRIDGETMAJOR PROJECT SELECTED FOR
2016 TEXSTYLE EXHIBITIONTextiles and Design student Bridget Baskerville received the exciting news of having her Major textiles project and portfolio selected for the 2016 TEXSTYLE exhibition. This exhibition showcases the top HSC works in this area and will be on display at Rosehill racecourse at the Stitches and Craft show in March 2017.
Bridget created a wall hanging inspired by ‘Alice in Wonderland’. Every component on Bridget’s work has been hand created and includes a multitude of quality and creative techniques inlcuding Fabric marbling, Digital printing, Dyelon printing, 80 creative embroidered 3D flowers, applique teapot spout and teacups, Silk painted butterflies, pieced 3-D teacups and hand stitched binding.
Accompanying Bridget’s work is an exceptional portfolio tracing the development of her ideas and the extensive experimentation completed to develop her skills.
This is an outstanding achievement for a very hard working and diligent student.
Congratulations Bridget.

Students in Banksia created a wreath of poppies, inspired by the World War I poem "In Flanders Fields” to celebrate Remembrance Day on the 11th November. We observed one minute’s silence at 11am to mark the day World War One ended and remember the people who have died in the wars.

YEAR 11 CROSSROADS As part of their senior studies, Year 11 students took part in a social and cultural education program called Crossroads, on Friday November 4, at the Kandos Returned Services and Community Club. It was a full day program that focused on learning about personal health and safety, developing positive personal relationships and developing a positive sense of self. The students learned about mental health and well-being, road awareness and drug awareness. They were addressed by prominent representatives from a variety of community service organisations; Marty Paice from the NSW Police spoke with the students about drug awareness, positive relationships and the position of the law. Women's Health Nurse, Janine Bromka, spoke with them about sexual health. Peter Chapman from the Red Cross spoke with the students about responsbile behaviour with drugs and alcohol and how best to care for each other. Kathryn Kent from CentaCare talked with the students about resilience and mental health, and Craig Parsons from the Ambulance Service of NSW spoke with the students about emergency care. The students and presenters shared a lovely lunch at the Chinese restaurant together as well. The day was a success, and mostly seemed very well received. Janine Bromka said it was "a great day" and that she was "impressed with [our] students".I'd like to thank Margaret Hart and the staff at the KRSCC for their generosity in allowing us to use the club on the day. We extend our thanks to Marty, Janine, Peter, Kathryn and Craig for sharing their expertise on the day as well.Rod San MartinYear 11 Advisor
GOLF NEWS
On Wednesday 9 November, Jack Nassis travelled to Sydney to comptete in the NSW Golf Open Pro-Am.Jack was a part of a representation that saw the top 120 juniors from all over NSW receive invites to team up with a professional golfer and compete at the Greg Norman designed course Stonecutters Ridge. The group combined fantastically together and were able to achieve a very prestigious victory. On Thursday 10 and Friday 11 November, Jack then made his professional caddying debut, caddying for a Japanese player who could not speak a word of English. To see the two combine and overcome the language barrier was a wonderful privilege.I would like to commend Jack on his result and on the way he conducted himself over the 3 days.He did himself, his family, school and Henbury Golf Club, very proud.Congratulations Jack!Nick Nassis

YEAR 7 DUNNS SWAMP EXCURSION
On Thursday 3rd November, Year 7 Geography students went to Dunns Swamp to participate in a fieldwork excursion with National Parks and Wildlife Service and Local Land Services.
For the morning session, the students split into two groups. The first group went with Mr Melvin and the NPWS officer Adam Bryce on a walk around the campground looking at Aboriginal artefacts such as paintings and campsites, and discussing the management of the Wollemi National Park and Dunns Swamp in particular. The second group stayed with Ms Besant and the Local Land Services officers Bruce Christie and his offsider and performed water testing and other fieldwork at the main campsite.
After lunch the students, Mr Bryce (NPWS), Mr Melvin, Ms Besant and Mrs Edwards walked up to the dam wall and back to take photos for Year 7’s field work task.
By then we were all hot ,tired and thirsty and ready to come back to school, but agreed that it had been a good day.
