President’s Report
Hi Members, Thanks to everyone who attended the recent AGM and Club Dinner in August. It was a fantastic night at the Black Buffalo and thanks to all who setup the room, contributed to the decorations and provided pictures used in the very much talked about photo competition. The year in review video was a success and packed full of memories. The release of the new ride calendar certainly created a lot of buzz as it is chock a block full of events all round this beautiful state of ours across coastal and inland waterways. I am so pleased that most of the committee has joined me again at the helm navigating this beast. I take great pleasure in welcoming Tal and Deano to the leadership ranks. Tal and Deano have shown a keen interest in helping grow the Club, I look forward to their efforts and contributions to our success. Please support your friends and club members by participating at club events, strengthening this wonderful institution collectively we are all building. The season is starting out with good numbers and lots of enthusiasm get onboard and be a part of next years ride review in the making. The club has an exciting year ahead that I’m sure will have something for everyone. Stay tuned and see you all at the ramp with a full tank of fuel ready for a days adventure. Bon Voyage........ Huon River Recovery Ride by David & Karen Fowler
The morning after the night before: Huon River Recovery Ride August 7th 2016.
It was an early start for most of us, arriving at the ramp a bit seedy and blurry eyed after the
Annual Dinner.
Like well oiled machines, 16 skis and 20 riders descended on the picturesque Huon River,
dodging some debris left over from the recent floods.
We headed down past Franklin, Castle Forbes Bay into Kermandie along to Port Huon where, by
then, we had climatised and perused the marina in the morning sun.
After warming up a bit by now we headed toward Cygnet. Some of us then decided on a bite to
eat while others contemplated the speed of their skis.
Deano Hayley's Yamaha vs the 300s and 260s.
Out of the 300s, it was too close to call. But Danette Lovell had the best time out of the 260s
(sorry Brett).
After a bit more fun, mudslinging and friendly rivalry, we moved toward beautiful Verona
Sands. After a quick comfort stop and a bit more R&R, we headed back up the River in perfect
mirror-like conditions.
For some people this was their first ever club ride. I was one of those people. Dave and I
appreciate all the effort that everyone goes to make it a safe and enjoyable day.
We look forward to getting to know everyone a lot better with many more rides and weekends
away.
Tamar River Ride - Sponsored by Auto Rent Hertz - Brett
Lovell
Our weekend started with a drive to oak downs with the jet ski trolley to put David Fowler’s and Karen's new ski onto the newly purchased double trailer after a few adjustments we were on our way north to spend the night with Ken Upchurch who kindly offered 2 bedrooms to us we arrived at Kens at around 4.30 and after making his yard look like a jet ski sale yard we soon settled in for a couple of coldies.
Soon after Carolyn Pillans rang Ken and we agreed to meet up at Grindelwald for a meal. After dinner back to kens for a night cap, some card tricks and some magic go Ken we were up at 630 Sunday a quick brekkie and we're off at 820 to Legana for fuel then head to the boat ramp at beauty point arriving about 900 with some jet skies already in the water, soon we were ready to start our Tamar river exploration but there were a few late arrivals who quickly had their skies in and ready to go. 22 skies and 4 two up 26 humans in total from very young to very old you decide.
Karen Fowler started her very first solo ride and soon changed from learner key to normal key and within a few km’s was cutting some fast laps as we continued up river there were some
nice scenery and some sad sights to see, being one of the ex Bruny ferry the Harry Omay ,had many trips on her and nearly killed myself with a diving attempt of the roof going horribly wrong she now is in very poor state on to Launceston and a quick coffee before back on the skies and up into the gorge a few snap shots and headed back to beauty point hotel for a pre arranged lunch. Thanks to the hotel and staff we had a great meal while we were there Karen told Dave she wanted to upgrade her 215 for a more powerful ski…. go Karen!
After lunch a few had to leave and head home a few of us refueled and headed out to the heads for a quick spin, the weather gods looked after us and we had a great time exploring the Tamar, a special thanks to our ride sponsors Auto Rent Hertz and Yamaha Launceston who gave us a new Yamaha to test ride for the day and anyone could have a go.
A big thanks to Ken Upchurch for being the ride coordinator and putting up with us we hope to repay you soon and look forward to more magic tricks ,we arrived home a bit before 9pm weary but had a great weekend and look forward to catching up with everyone on our next ride, cheers Brett.
End of 2015/2016 Season Club Dinner at the Black Buffalo
The president summarised the 2015/16 season which saw a 30% increase in member participation from the previous year. The president reminded us all of the Club's commitment to safety in the decision to purchase and upgrade existing/ageing club equipment and safety gear.
The Club acknowledges and appreciates the efforts and ongoing support of longtime Club member and Liberal Member for Braddon Adam Brooks MP. Hopefully we will see Adam come along on a ride or 2 in the upcoming current season.
The Black Buffalo provided a spacious venue, including multi- media that more than met our needs and were very warm and welcoming and willing to assist any of our requests.
The evening was flowing, entertaining and relaxing...just what many or our Northern club members needed to finish off the day with, thanks to all those who travelled to Hobart it was great to see you all again.
The President reminded us that every year the club grows bigger and stronger going from strength to strength with individuals rising to the challenge and achieving personal goals, gaining confidence out on the water in all conditions. This is not only a personal achievement but a club success, as you all improve the skills the club also achieves the objectives of having better prepared, more skilled and competent PWC operators, as you grow so does the club.
The slide show of the year in review was a trip down memory lane, with some great photos inspiring conversation among friends. There was anticipation at the reveal of the ride calendar on the big screen and what an impressive ride calendar it is with some spectacular rides sure to appeal and have something for all, many thanks to Justin, Matt and Josh for developing such an array or impressive rides for the current season.
Everyone who attended the evening thoroughly enjoyed themselves and were still pumped the next morning at the ramp ready for the recovery ride.
Venue staff remarked how organized and professional we were that we were the only club that has helped them clear the tables and they were impressed! Not only is the club efficient and organized at the ramp but also that generosity flows onto all club gatherings.
2015/2016 Annual General Meeting at the Black Buffalo
The Annual General Meeting was held on Saturday 6 August with a very pleasing attendance. The meeting heard the President’s Report on the Club’s activities for the year, including the news that 220 participants had joined in Club rides in 2015-16. This was a Club record and some 60 people more than in 2014-15. Membership was on a par with the year before, with the particularly pleasing addition of eight new sponsors. The Club’s audited financial statements were presented along with the independent auditor’s report. The profit and loss statement reported a cash loss of $2404 for the year, although some $1700 of this related to new equipment purchases, and $600 related to club caps and stubby holders for 2016-17 and beyond. The Club had a healthy bank account at the end of the financial year and is in good financial health. The committee delivered on the decision of the previous year to renew and upgrade Club’s equipment. Purchases included new flare packs, 4 new marine radios, air horns and fluro vests (all shared between northern and southern ride kits), new BBQ and gas bottle (north), and two new club flags for use as muster points at boat ramps and for social or advertising events. The meeting confirmed the Committee’s approach to reasonable spending on items that benefitted members and the Club overall, rather than to continually build the bank account without purpose. An appropriate reserve is maintained in the bank account to address unforeseen matters.
The Committee has prepared a budget for the coming year that will support the Club activities in 2016-17.
The President thanked outgoing Committee members Ian Macleod and Josh Turley for their work during the year and welcomed this year’s new faces on board. Members of the new Committee are noted in this edition of the newsletter. The President also thanked members for their active support and participation this year, evidenced by numbers attending Club events as well as those who came to the AGM.

Club Fundraising BBQ in New Town
A rather slow and steady day for our first club fundraiser….however we now have enough supplies for another bbq! Thank you to all involved for making it a great day!
Introducing the fresh faces of the Committee,
Deano & Tal
Hi Peeps! My name is Deano and I have been a club member for some years now. I finally decided it’s time to become part of the back bone of the club. I’ll be working alongside our fantastic committee members, answering questions, organising events/rides, filming/making club videos and most of all pushing this wonderful club forward, keeping it the best jet ski club in Australia! I have no doubt it is going to be hard work and some long nights but I am willing to sacrifice my time, energy and knowledge to really make this club proud. I’m more than happy to answer all your questions.
***
Hi guys…..I was absolutely thrilled to be asked to be a part of the committee…..thanks Dave for seeing my enthusiastic side! I have been a part of the club since last year and thought what an amazing and friendly group of people I have met and now here I am working closely with some of these people…….how lucky am I!
I plan on bringing my marketing and promotions experience to the committee, my friendly and bubbly personality and some fresh ideas…..let’s not forget my love of taking a lot of photos! By joining the existing committee I plan to further enhance a strong and robust leadership team that has a clear and defined vision for the club long into the future, cheers Tal .
