Funding for a 'Fairer Scotland' Launched The First Minister has announced £29 million worth of funding for community and third sector projects to help support the Fairer Scotland Action Plan , published in October 2016. £12 million of the funding comes from the European Social Fund. The Scottish Government will direct £18.9 million into a new 'Aspiring Communities Fund' which offers funding opportunities for third sector organisations and community projects working to find long lasting local solutions to poverty. The fund will open at the end of January 2017. A further £9.7 million will be dedicated to the 'Growing the Social Economy Programme' , which will enable third sector organisations to try new ideas and approaches by collaborating with research organisations or supporting people to improve their skills. Funding for a 'Fairer Scotland' Launched

Community Planning Partnership Survey

The Community Planning Partnership are progressing the development ofthe new Local Outcome Improvement Plan for Highland. This document willreplace the existing Single Outcome Agreement and is a strategic plan forthe multi-agency partnership to deliver against in the next 1, 3 and 10 years.

To help the HTSI represent the view of the third sector, community groupsand volunteers, we would be delighted if you would take some time tocomplete these initial questions. If you are happy to be approached againas the plan develops and we need more specific views on details within theproposed plan please complete your details on the final page. Alternativelyyou can complete this anonymously. This will not be your only opportunity tocontribute to this planning process as there will be a formal engagement andconsultation process later in the year.

Scottish Mental Health First Aid: Young PeopleWednesday 8th February 2017

Smithton-Culloden Free Church, Inverness IV2 7WX

For those working/supporting or volunteering with 11 – 17 year olds, this is an evidence learning coursefor adults to provide initial support; in a crisis and non-crisis situation. The course will provide delegateswith a clear understanding and practical application of the Scottish Mental Health First Aid skills, givingparticipants’ confidence in approaching a young person in distress.

It is designed to teach you to better understand mental health and how it affects young people, as wellas learn mental health first aid skills such as:-

· How to recognise the signs of mental health problems or distress· How to ask about mental distress· How to provide initial support· How to guide a young person towards appropriate professional help· How to reduce stigma a round mental health issues for young people

The course also aims to show how mental health first aid can be applied in a crisis situation involving arange of common mental health problems, such as depression and anxiety, eating disorders, self-harm,suicide and substance misuse. This course does not train you to become a counsellor or mental healthprofessional.

This 14-hour training course is designed to increase understanding of mental health and how it affectsyoung people. The course requires several hours of personal CPD both before and after the training dayin order to complete the course requirements. The personal learning part of the course is done throughthe e-learning zone on the SMHFA –YP website.

The course is presented by a qualified SMHFA instructor and quality is continuously monitored by NHSHealth Scotland.

The Cost is £75 per participant for the 14 hour programme (including 1 day training).

How Could £5,000 Develop Your Youth Project?

FiSCAF’s first funding deadline of 2017 is going to focus on young people.We’re calling for applications from organisations motivated by faith whocould use £5,000 to make a real difference to the lives of people 18 andunder, experiencing poverty in their local community.You might be an established youth project looking to pilot a new workstream, or test a new approach to ongoing work. Perhaps you’ve beenworking with a broader audience, but have identified the need to develop inways that you specifically provide support young people. Whatever yourproject, as long as you can spend the money within 12 months of receiptwe’d like to hear from you.Deadline for applications is the 10th of February and open to all charitieswho meet our usual criteria and have never received funding from the STVChildren’s Appeal. Aird & Loch Ness - Your Ward, Your Cash, Your Choice

Participatory budgeting is coming to the Highland Council’s Aird and LochNess Ward. This process that lets the local community decide forthemselves how money is spent and which community projects are neededin their area. Closing date for application 8 February.

Apply for a Bags of Help grant

Bags of Help is Tesco’s local community grant scheme where the money raised from the 5p baglevy in Tesco stores is being used to fund thousands of community projects across the UK. Theprojects must meet the criteria of promoting community participation in the development and useof outdoor spaces.

Bags of Help is administered by Groundwork and supported in Scotland by greenspace scotland.

How does Bags of Help work?

Bags of Help is now is always open to applications from community projects.

Groundwork assesses all of the applications received to ensure they are eligible. This is followedup byTesco shortlisting groups who decide which projects go forward to the in-store vote.

Three local community projects will be voted on in Tesco stores each month across Tesco re-gions throughout England, Scotland and Wales. In each region, the project that received the mostvotes from all stores in their region will receive a grant of up to £5,000. The second placed projectreceives up to £2,000 and third placed up to £1,000. Every year, over 7000 projects will receivefunding through this scheme.
