GATE 2015 Important Updates

dream rank in the upcoming Graduate Aptitude Test in engineering exam. Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) exam is an all-India test conducted by the Indian Institute of Science and IITS.

1) Set Your Goals

Different goals have different strategies so it is important to dene your goals in terms of the rank you wish to achieve. If you are aspiring for the top IITS or PSUS, you will need a rank of less than 1,000 and will have to prepare thoroughly on all topics as opposed to someone just looking to achieve a qualifying grade.

2) Take A Diagnostic Test

Before you start preparations it is important to know your level of competence. An analysis of your performance in this test will reveal your strengths as well as areas of weakness. Based on this feedback, you can then devise a correct preparation strategy.

3) Build Your Concepts

GATE is an exam which tests concepts as well as their application. Join a good classroom program or an online tutoring program which will help strengthen your concepts.

4) Practice Makes Perfect

Make an effort to solve different types of questions in various books as they will help you be prepared for any kind of surprise questions.

5) Familiarise With Formulae

Engineering subjects have a lot of formulae, which more often than not have to be memorized. Noting down all formulae in one place or referring to a collection of formulae will help you memorize data more efciently.

6) Do Not Ignore General Ability

General Ability section constitutes 15 per cent of your total marks. So be sure to pay special attention.

7) Appear In A Mock Test Series

Mock tests will help you adapt to the online pattern and assess what progress you have made.

8) Make Your Own Exam Strategy

Some people like to start solving a paper from the rst question, while others like to glance through the entire paper and start answering questions from their areas of strength. Based on your experiments in the mock test series, you can customize an exam strategy of your own.

9) Relax Before The Exam

One day before the exam, stop thinking about it. Go watch a movie or play a game to relax. Try to appear for GATE with a fresh mind.

10) Remember That Gate Is Not The End Of The World

Try to do your best and do not worry excessively about the results. This is just one exam among many.

preparation while being honest to myself. I covered the whole syllabus in parts starting by covering important topics from different subjects in Biotechnology along with regular practice of engineering mathematics & general aptitude.

Scheduling your time is really important because the lack of proper management may leave you confused about the GATE exam with doubts like which topics to cover & what is not relevant for GATE exam. I would advise to always study 2-3 subjects side by side. This would maintain your pace in covering the entire syllabus.

One month before GATE should be only for solving questions, mock tests. During this time, it is better to start revision because trying to start any new subject will just be a waste of your time. Just try to practice as many questions as you can. Joining test series especially online test series like at GateForum will really help.

Any message for the future aspirants?

Aditya Gusain: Never panic. GATE exam is very easy if you are serious about it and work hard for it. Remember only hard work pays, so just study and that too with fun .Never think what is going to happen after that. This attitude is what has really helped me to secure a good rank. You can succeed too if you believe and work for it!
