Latin. anglicus quercu
English oak is a large decidulous tree up
to 20-40m tall.
The majesty oak with a circumference of
12.2m (14 Ft.) is the thickest tree in Great
Britain.
Name: Larch Tree
Facts:
The larch tree is the only coniferous tree found in England with deciduous wood. In the autumn or fall, its thin needles turn golden yellow and shine through the woods and mountain slopes like fire. It was introduced into England in the 1700’s. The seeds are eaten by red squirrels and a number of birds, including the siskin and lesser redpoll, while the buds and immature cones are eaten by black grouse.
The Latin name for the larch tree: Larix
PINE TREE Pine tree– most ferquently occuring
evergreen, coniferous tree in Poland.
Pinus sylvestris – lat. pinus which means ‘the
source of resin’.
Pines cover about 67% forestry surface area
of our country. They are basic tree species
used in the process of afforestation in
Poland. This type of tree occurs commonly
in almost any kind of environment. The crown of a pine tree is in the shape of
an umbrella, the trunk is covered with red-
brown, scaly and flaking bark.
PINE TREE
Three kinds of pine occur in our
climatic conditions: the common pine
tree, arolla pine tree and mountain
pine.
It is worth mentioning that in 24 hours
a sixty-year-old pine tree produces
enough oxygen for 3 people, and
that is 1350-1800 liters!

OAK TREE One of the broadleaved trees, most frequently occurring in
Poland, is the oak tree. This tree is special for us because it is
a symbol of certain values.
It stands for longevity and strength. In Poland we have a
saying that somebody is ‘as strong as an oak’.
The oak tree is highly-valued mainly because of its stately
and majestic appearance, the ability of reaching old age
and because it is the source of quality wood. Two kinds of oak trees can be found in Poland and they are:
the sessile oak and the common oak.
A sessile oak tree- Quercus petraea – lat. quercus ‘oak’;
lat. Petraeus it means ‘growing on the rocks’.
A common oak tree- Quercus robur – lat. quercus ‘oak’;
lat. robur it means ‘the wood from an oak’, but also
‘strength and power’ (relating to the size and the shape of
the tree); An interesting fact is that its name was already known to
people from ancient times
The nuts from the sessile oak tree, aka acorns, are valuable food for
many mammals and birds. The name of this oak tree species
derives from the fact that an acorn is fixed on a long stem.
OAK TREE Famous old Polish oaks trees:
CHROBRY
BARTEK
The most popular oak tree in Poland is an oak called BARTEK (Bart). It is about 700 years old, 30 meters high, with the circuit of its
trunk that has come to 13,4 meters near the ground.
The legend says that it was the kings’ favourite because Bolesław III the Wry-mouthed and Casmir III the Great used to camp under this very tree during their huntings.
Older than BARTEK is an oak called CHROBRY.
Blackberry Tree
Passing beneath a Blackberry Tree:
In Turkish folklore, childless women,
and cows that don't get pregnant,
and children wetting their beds are
supposedly cured by passing under
a blackberry bush known as "Avat"
(West Trabzon). “Avat is believed to
be a charm herb of paradise.”
