A big thank you to all our parent helpers and volunteers this semester who have helped with all our programs like Kitchen Garden, Walk to School Healthy Breakfast, Sports Days, Library, Grounds Projects, Working Bees, Classroom helpers, BBQs, Pancake Shifts, Mindful May project etc. It is what makes our school so special and unique, the way our families chip in, help where they can, and get involved in the school and their children’s education. I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable school holiday break. See you all back next term, refreshed and ready for more fun and learning.

EMERGANCY MANAGEMENTWe conducted a practice evacuation drill on Friday at school. As always staff and students and a parent at the time, did this calmly and efficiently. In the event of a real evacuation there are some procedures that we follow as per our emergency management plan. It is important to remember in the event of an emergency the first priority for all staff is the safety of children. My priority, as Principal, is the safety of all staff, students, parents and visitors on site at the time.

These are the types of emergency procedures that we enact if ever needed:

1.On-site evacuation to the School Oval this will occur when it is unsafe to be in the school buildings like if there is a fire, gas leak, electrical issue etc. 2.Off-site evacuation to the Woolsthorpe Tennis courts this will occur when it is unsafe to be on the school site like a bomb threat, large fire, large chemical spill etc.3.Shelter in place to the project space (main building) this will occur when a major bushfire is threating the outside area of the school or it is determined the safest course of action4.Lock-down is the most difficult situation as it involves a mobile threat within the school grounds. A lock-down involves staff locking doors and remaining inside, below window level. For this situation we are in the hands of the police and authorities.

Our Procedure is as follows with all situations:

• Call 000 for emergency services and seek and follow advice

• Evacuate students, staff and visitors • Report the emergency and evacuation to DET

Security Services Unit • Once at assembly point/s, check all students, staff

and visitors are accounted for • Ensure communications with emergency services is

maintained • Wait for emergency services to arrive or provide

further information• Notify the Regional Office and seek advice from the

DET Regional Manager • Confirm with emergency service personnel that it is

safe to return to normal operations • Contact parents as required and as soon as

possible - FlexiBuzz message will be sent

iPAD MAINTANCE IN THE HOLIDAYSParents please check your child’s iPad, the holidays are a good time to check and fix iPads.Delete old apps, pictures and videos. iPad screens need to be fixed so student can have their iPads at school every day for learning.

ENROLMENT STEPSEnrolment forms are available in the office or can be email out by Suzi. Enrolment Forms are now due please. This is important so we can process the forms and plan for our transition programs later in the year. Prospective families can also start receiving our school newsletters and follow us on Facebook.

STAY INFORMEDIt is vital to our school operations that all parents read FexiBuzz messages and have the App on their Phones. The fortnightly newsletter is also a MUST read for families.

The FlexiBuzz App is used as a messaging system for all sorts of communications. Paper notes will be rare. Our Website and Facebook page form an important part of our communication strategy between home and school also.

CONTACT DETAILSIf your contact details, phone numbers or email have changed lately please ensure these are changed at school with Suzi. We must have up-to-date information in case of an emergency.

PRINCIPAL’S REPORTYouThank

‘Open Day is Every Day’VISITS WELCOME ANYTIME

With families starting to think about their school choice for 2019, we are calling everyone to help us spread the word. We can host visits for prospective families anytime. While we do some local advertising, we know the best form of advertising for our school is word of mouth. We know there are still areas of Koroit, Winslow and Mailors Flat where families new to the area may not know about our school and the opportunities we offer. If you know of people with school age children, please encourage them to visit and see for themselves what our school has to offer. We have a FREE school bus, which as a School Council we have worked hard to maintain. With our amazing facilities and a reputation for quality education, we are looking to encourage more families in the local area to choose our school for their child’s education.
