Dear customer

Advanced Logic Technology has been designing and manufacturing first class ima-ging tools and acquisition systems for 10 years.

We have been active implementing new concepts to enhance our tools and sys-tems.This newsletter informs you about the new features and if you want to getmore, let us know.

The ALT hardware R&D team is cur-rently working on a HighPressure/High temperature versionof the ABI for the geothermalindustry. The tool operation andfunctionality will be the same asthe low temperature ABI (AcousticBorehole Imager). The tool tempe-rature/pressure rating will be275°c/1400 Bars for 10 hours. Thetool OD is 88mm and tool weightaround 100kg. The prototype iscurrently undergoing fieldtesting.Besides this challenging project, wekeep working on new productsand further enhancements of ourcurrent product line. ABI40 – pipe inspection mode

The 3D log is a virtual image combiningtravel time (caliper component) and theamplitude of the acoustic signal reflectedon the inner wall of the casing (amplitu-de image component). The 3D viewshows in detail the casing burst, perfora-tions and cracks.

Internal and external radius of the casing

Thickness is derived from a complex pro-cess using the full wave train of theacoustic signal within the casing. It is

shown as a color coded image of thecasing thickness. Lower thickness valuesare displayed in light blue, higher thick-ness values in dark blue. The bad datapoints are colored in red. Thickness unitis in mm.

Score image log is the quality index ofthe processed thickness data. The varia-tions observed on the thickness image

log will be validated when reproduced onthe score image log.

In the WellCAD document, you may seefrom left to right

Amplitude internal image log is a colorcoded image of the amplitude of thereflected acoustic signal on the internalwall of the casing. High amplitudevalues are in yellow, low amplitudevalues are in dark blue. Amplitudevalues are unit less. The dark blue low amplitude spotsshow the perforations where metal lossis observed.

Caliper image log is a color codedimage of the internal diameter of thecasing. Higher values are displayed in

red, lower values in blue. Diameter ismeasured in mm. The caliper log isderived from the travel time of theacoustic signal and from the fluid velo-city.

In the enclosed example, the data wereacquired in a 7"- 23lb/ft perforated casingand are presented at a depth scale of 1/20.(azimuthal resolution of 72 pts/trn andvertical sampling rate of 3 mm ).The ABI40tool was run to locate the perforated areaand to identify eventual anomalies on theinternal and external walls of the casingstring.Actually, in this example, casingwalls have been damaged over the perfo-rated interval during the blasting opera-tions.

The latest generation of ALT acous-tic televiewer is a multi-echo sys-tem. Downhole real time analysis

of the acoustic data is made by a DSP. Incasing inspection mode, sophisticatedalgorithms allow the system to process, separate & classify all subsequent echoesand display real time images of the casinginternal radius and rugosity and casingthickness providing an accurate picture ofcasing condition. The system also records adata processing quality index (score).

You may have experienced difficulty tuning the potentio-meters inside the tool when switching wirelines. The new

telemetry is now fully automatic. It may accommodate awider range of wireline configurations. The tuning isautomatically controlled by software and requires no fur-ther user input

Telemetry rev 2.0 – wireline/communication range

Cable type Max length at 125.000 kbpsMono conductor

1/16” 1000 m

1/8” 2000 m

3/16” 3000 m

4 conductors

3/16” 5000 m

ALT tool telemetry (rev 2.0)

A new electronic chassis using a 14Bit A/D convertor and a75 Mops DSP processor

The dynamic range of the signal detection is improved and a

higher signal/noise ratio is obtained allowing an outstandingimage qual ity.

Multiple echoes are real-time processed, sorted and recordedby the tool

Time gate settings are automatic and dynamic to suite variable

borehole conditions.(no more user input)

A new APS544 deviation sensor

3 axis magnetometer and accelerometers

sensor is factory calibrated and does not require further cali-

brations

Temperature compensated

improved accuracy

FAC40 upgrade to ABI40The upgrade will include :

5 Example of data acquired behind PVC casing .Reminder: casing needs to be centralized in the boreholeand tool centralized in the casing to obtain good images.

5 Control panel of ABI browser.

UPGRADE your imaging tools to the latest generation
