Extended day provision At the end of last term I explained that we would aim to
provide some extended day offer from the 28th
September onwards. I am mindful that families will
need to be clear about planning in order to arrange
work etc.
I need to ensure that what the school is able to offer
fits robustly within our new systems and expectations
to minimise the transmission of Covid-19 through
hygiene and separating bubbles. You will appreciate
that this is a complex matter.
We will not run a breakfast club this term: I think that
our soft start offer is supportive of working families at
the beginning of the day.
We will look to design a childcare offer for working
families which runs to 5.30pm.
Places will need to be pre-booked and paid for.
Places will be for all 5 days of the week at a cost of £35
for the week. (There will be a reduced rate for siblings)
In order to maintain the childcare ‘bubble’
robustly – places will need to be booked in blocks and
paid a week in advance.
I appreciate that this child care offer looks very
different to our usual arrangements.
A letter is coming to all families today - please
complete and return promptly so that we can move
forward with our planning.

A message from Mrs Horton
It has been wonderful to see our children return for the start
of a new academic year. Our attendance figures are
currently 92%, which as you know is lower than our
expectation of 96%+, but in these extraordinary
circumstances I feel this is a figure that the community can
celebrate as a positive start.
There are lots of new systems and expectations to get used
to – for adults as well as children. I have been impressed
with everyone’s flexibility and understanding. Thank you for
your patience - getting used to different gates and timings.
It is our aim to balance the importance of ‘bubbles’ being
separate, whilst not adding any unnecessary tension or
rigidity for the children.
At all times our provision aims to foster growing
independence for the children. The routines at soft start
support this well. Children are already getting used to
coming in, washing their hands and using the right entrance
to go straight in to class.
Next week, families with children from Nursery to year 6 will
have the chance for a virtual ‘meet the teacher’. Class
teachers will be in contact directly via class emails with
information for a zoom meeting next week. It will be an
opportunity to ‘see’ your child’s classroom and find out
about their learning and new routines.

Being back at school
Some children from Purple Class share their thoughts about being back at school…
Going back to school is exciting because you get to see your
friends again. We have a set place for lunch. Sometimes we have a
grab bag. We have to walk up more stairs now because our classroom is on the top floor!
Now we are back at school we can see all our friends. We have good
teachers and a lot of smart people at Hargrave Park.
I like coming back to school because some things have
changed. We have learned a new system about bubbles. We
don't go next to each other.
It feels happy to me because I get to see my friends again. I haven't seen my friends in six
months. We have our own trays and we always wipe things
down after we use them and we always have to wash our hands! We have our lunch in classes so
we don't pop each other's bubbles!

It's better being at school because I am making new friends and
seeing friends I haven't seen for a long time. Every time we come in
through the gates we have to wash our hands. We have our own tray so we don't mix our stuff and
so we can be safe.
Isaac
We have sinks and hand sanitiser around the school. Now this has happened we are washing our
hands more often than we used to: when we go out to play, when we come in from play, before lunch, after lunch. I don't mind doing it because I don't want to get sick.

If anyone displays symptoms of
coronavirus at home
If anyone in your household displays symptoms of coronavirus, you must let the school know. Your child needs to stay at home and the person with symptoms must have a test as soon as possible. All members of the household need to self-isolate until the test result is back. If your child is having a test, the other families in the bubble will be notified that a child in the bubble has had a test. Names will not be shared. Nobody else from the bubble needs to stay at home unless there is a confirmed coronavirus case. If the result is positive, all members of the household will need to stay at home and self-isolate for two weeks. If a child from a bubble tests positive, all pupils and adults in the school bubble will also need to self-isolate for two weeks.

If a child displays symptoms of
coronavirus at school
If a child displays symptoms of coronavirus in school, they will be taken to a designated space away from other children by a member of staff that they know, and kept separate until they are collected. The family will be called and asked to collect their child and take them for a test as soon as possible. Members of that household need to self-isolate until the test result is back. The other families in the bubble will be notified that a child in the bubble has had a test. Names will not be shared. Nobody else from the bubble needs to stay at home unless there is a confirmed coronavirus case. If there is a confirmed case, all pupils and adults in the bubble will need to stay at home and self-isolate for two weeks. Siblings and other family members of the child in the affected bubble do not need to self-isolate.
Friday 11th September 2020
If there are more than two confirmed coronavirus cases in the school, Public Health England will make an assessment
and advise the school on how to proceed.

Secondary Transfer
Year 6 parents are now able to apply for their Secondary places. The deadline is 31st October. More information can be found by
clicking the below link: https://www.islington.gov.uk/children-and-
families/schools/apply-for-a-school-place/apply-for-secondary-school-place/how-to-apply#guide-sections
Please let us know if you would like support with the process.
Uniform
Please ensure all school uniform is labelled with your child’s name.
The Hargrave Park uniform is a polo shirt (not a shirt). Please see the school website for our full uniform list.
http://www.hargravepark.com/parents/school-uniform/ (The green polo shirt gives more options for colour
combinations ) Children are expected to wear plain black shoes or trainers.
Lunch time The timetabling and arrangements at lunchtime are complex. This is so that everyone can get fed, have a play and still keep
separate from other bubbles in the school. Packed lunches from home MUST NOT be brought in. Classes have a rota of 2 weeks
of hot lunch in the dining room, and 1 week of ‘Grab Bag’ lunches in the hall. A choice is always available and children are supervised and supported by a familiar adult who keeps a close
eye on what the children are eating.
It is wonderful
to welcome the
children back
for another
exciting
academic year
at Hargrave
Park!
