Vol. 9 Number 1 February 2018
Help for a Member Library
The Inkster Leanna Hicks Memorial Library experienced a building system failure which
has rendered the library unfit for use as a public library. After consultation with ExComm
on February 1, TLN will initiate steps to insure materials are discharged and returned to
the lending library or secured in temporary storage if owned by Inkster:
January 16, 2018 TLN has suspended all holds in SAS with Inkster as a pick
up location; Inkster has been removed as an option for hold
pickup from the OPAC; fines will not toll for Inkster items;
and Inkster privileges for MelCat have been suspended.
February 6, 2018 TLN will restart delivery service with pick up of all materials
deposited in Inkster book drop – service to remain in effect
for Tuesday and Thursday schedule until new service point
in Inkster is ready for public use
February 7, 2018 Items owned by Inkster – picked up by TLN Delivery will
be discharged and moved into temporary storage at TLN
until new service point is ready for public access
All other materials picked up by delivery will be sorted and
delivered to owning TLN library
During this time of temporary closure, TLN libraries are encouraged to support Inkster
patrons through access to collections and services. This includes issuing library cards (call
Anne Neville for instructions). Inkster library officials have identified a temporary location
to move library services and hope to secure the space and open within the next four months.
Shared Automation Service Steps to Switch to CARL Underway
The migration to the CARL Integrated Library System is underway. The TLN
bibliographic database was loaded onto CARL servers … Congrats to TLN SAS staff for
the remarkable accuracy of our records – of almost one million records only one was kicked
out with errors! The new servers have arrived, are installed and communicating with CARL
in Denver. TLN staff have daily calls with CARL and are working on documentation
workbooks.
TLN will suspend SAS MelCat services on April 1. Once suspended, the shared library
system libraries will be removed from the drop down list. SAS patrons will not be able to
log in and place a hold. It is projected MelCat service for SAS libraries will resume in
July as long as all migration requirements are satisfied.
