Issue 1—Friday 5th February 2021
PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
The compulsory wearing of masks was reintroduced to all schools yesterday (4th February, 2021) following a COVID-19
infection case.
All students and staff are required to wear masks on transport and inside buildings.
Students under 12 years of age are exempt from mask wearing in school buildings. However, I would like to encourage
our young students to wear masks if possible. During our lockdown periods in 2020, approximately 50% of our Juniors
wore masks.
It is crucial that students wear masks on our school buses as it is impossible to maintain a physical distance on buses.
Let us hope that the current COVID infection alert will be quickly resolved. We must remember the three imperatives:
1.Physical Distance 2.Wear a Mask 3.Sanitisation

BUILDING PROGRAM NEWS
A meeting of our Building Project Team convened last Tuesday, 2nd February. Emerson is represented on the Committee
by our School Council President, Heather Norman and John Mooney. The building of Stage One of our project will now
move from Schematic Drawing Stage to Architectural Drawing Stage. We are very pleased with the progress to date.
Stage One will be a two storey building situated on the grassed area at the front of our Heatherton Road Campus.
We are working hard to maximise classroom sizes and to achieve spacious resource and storage areas. Together, we will
achieve an excellent outcome.

VALUE OF THE FORTNIGHT
We will continue our study of the value, Friendliness next week. Friendliness is caring about other people. It is taking an interest in them and being willing to share the ups and downs of life with each other. The best friend is someone who listens and doesn’t judge. A.A.Milne wrote some wonderful things about friendships in his Winnie the Pooh books. I found this post on Facebook recently. It describes how being a good friend can help someone get through a difficult day much easier.

DIARY DATES 2021
"Today was a Difficult Day," said Pooh. There was a pause. "Do you want to talk about it?" asked Piglet. "No," said Pooh after a bit. "No, I don't think I do." "That's okay," said Piglet, and he came and sat beside his friend. "What are you doing?" asked Pooh. "Nothing, really," said Piglet. "Only, I know what Difficult Days are like. I quite often don't feel like talking about it on my Difficult Days either. "But goodness," continued Piglet, "Difficult Days are so much easier when you know you've got someone there for you. And I'll always be here for you, Pooh." And as Pooh sat there, working through in his head his Difficult Day, while the solid, reliable Piglet sat next to him quietly, swinging his little legs…he thought that his best friend had never been more right." Middle School Graduate students were given the opportunity to nominate themselves to be elected as 2021 Middle

During our assembly on Monday, eight students stood in front of the staff and student-body to deliver a speech about
themselves and what they would like to achieve this year at Emerson.
I would like to proudly announce that Martyn A and Mia W are our Middle School Captains for 2021 and Noah W and
Abbie W are our Deputy Captains.
Congratulations to everyone who nominated themselves and participated in the election process!
