Charitable Tax Receipts not picked up at re-registration or previously mailed will be mailed out on March 3.
Receipts for donors, grandparents and previous families were mailed on February 28th.
By Jeremy Tinsley, Principal Thank you to those parents/guardians who took the time to fill out the Duncan Christian School Parent Survey a few weeks ago. Your responses are very helpful as we plan for both the immediate future and long term. Your feedback was also very encouraging in recognizing the work being done by staff at DCS as God works through each of us to serve and support students. One area for improvement that came out in the surveys was in regard to the elementary facility. We agree that the elementary building is showing its age and is full. Although the school has invested significantly in renovating elementary classrooms, washrooms, and the gym, we recognize that more work needs to be done in order to provide a mod-ern and flexible learning space that accommodates well all our students, and allows for continued growth - something that has been a challenge in the last few years with the building running at or near capacity. To this end, the board and our building planning committee continue to work on plans for a new elementary building. It’s likely that this project, should our current timeline and work continue without major hurdles, will result in construction on a new building starting during the spring or summer of 2021. We are currently immersed in the design and planning phase of the project and are working with an architect, staff, community mem-bers, and parents to develop drawings that will be shared with you in the spring of 2020. In late April 2020, we have invited SCSBC (Society of Christian Schools in BC) to con-duct a study within our community in which they will seek input regarding the project and attempt to determine the level of financial support that exists. During 2020-21 the school will invite families to partner with us in a capital campaign to raise funds for the project. We have already begun discussions with banks and other financial institutions to listen to their proposals regarding financing and interest rates. The school has been saving and setting aside funds from past surplus budgets. Having recently become debt-free, we are well situated to move forward from a financial perspective. Our building planning committee will continue working on this exciting project and we look forward to sharing imagery with you soon.

STUDENT ABSENCE
The school parking lot off of Chesterfield Ave-nue can become congested in the morning. This is a staff only parking lot and we ask that all parents use the main parking lot off of Beech Avenue. There is no supervision for students in this area. Thank you.
PARKING LOT NOISE AFTER-HOURS
In consideration of our neighbours, please do your part by keeping the noise level to a mini-mum during after-hours events at DCS, both before and after school and on weekends. Please make every effort to avoid loud noises, such as honking, shouting, and slamming doors. Thank you for helping us to be a good neighbour!
Pets in the elementary school for classroom
sharing (show and tell) must be prearranged
with your child’s teacher first. They are to come
to school only for the child’s sharing time.
Please call or email the school offices if your children will be away for the day or part of the day. Absences need to be excused by a parent or guardian. Elementary at [email protected] or Secondary at [email protected] Thank you.
The elementary lost and found has grown with coats, pants,
shirts, hoodies, shoes, and boots. Please have a look before
school closes for Spring Break. All items left behind in the lost
and found will be donated to the local thrift store.

LOST AND FOUND
Thank you to all the families who attended our re-registeration days. For fam-
ilies who missed re-registration, please return your completed forms to the
elementary office as soon as possible or let the school know your intentions
for next year. We will be opening our registration to new families.
MERIT ROLL Students who have earned a “G” Good and/or “E” Excellent
for their Work Habits mark in all subjects on their report card. In
addition, they must not have any incomplete (“I”) courses. A
student may have one “S” throughout the year and still
qualify for Merit Roll.
HONOUR ROLL Students who are on the Merit
Roll and have an academic standing of 80% or above in every course on their report
card. A student may have one report card mark of 73%-79% throughout the year and still
qualify for Honour Roll.
STUDENT OF DISTINCTION A special award recognizing
outstanding effort and achieve-ment for each term. Student must be on the Merit Roll and receive 86% or above in every course. A student may have one report card mark of 80%-85% and still qualify for Stu-
dent of Distinction.

DCS CHARGERS Gr. 8 Girls Basketball Team Congrats to our Gr. 8 Girls Bball team for winning the Cen-tral Van. Is. Gr. 8 Girls Bball Championship!
In the semi-final that featured DCS and Quamichan, DCS won a tight battle in the final few minutes, 41 - 38
In the other semi-final Sunrise Waldorf School defeated Saltspring Middle School 39 - 20.
Quamichan won the Bronze medal match with a 40 - 14 victory over Saltspring Middle School.
Duncan Christian won the Championship with an exciting see-saw victory over Sunrise 35 - 26. At the end of the 3rd quarter the score was tied 20 - 20. After being down 23 - 26 with about 4 minutes to go in the game, DCS responded with a strong comeback and won 35 - 26

Also the Mis-sion trip stu-dents have an account at the Bottle Depot called Dun-can Christian School Mexi-co Mission. Anyone can return bottles to the depot (and mention the account before computer entry of returns begins) to help fund all mission students to Mexico in Sep-tember!

DRAMA PROPS NEEDED
The school’s drama class is in need of a few items for their production coming up in May. The items they need are: an old record player, a couple of lamps if they are getting tossed out, a tractor style steering wheel, spinning type party light or moving ceiling projector (like used in a nursery), black light, and, as always, leftover paint. Please drop off at the elementary office. Thank you.
