From The Principal…

Dear Parents/Carers

There has been much excitement at

Rowville Primary School during the week.

On Monday morning our year six, five and

four students departed with their teachers

and a group of parent volunteers for their Beyond

Boundaries Adventure Programs. The year three students

departed for their experience this morning and the

Foundation, year one and two students will undertake their

experience on Thursday and Friday. While it has been very

quiet around the school it has certainly not been quiet in

terms of workload!

After much planning and consideration, the Parent

Payments and Voluntary Contributions for each student in

2017 have now been confirmed and documentation was

sent to all families via COMPASS. The payments received

provide the resources to support our high quality

educational programs, administration, facilities

development and maintenance. In the past families paid

for their book pack and other charges including the

Essential Student Learning Items at the school office. For

2017, families will be able to order their book packs online

been sent to all families.

Once payments have been made, book packs will be

delivered to your home by the supplier. This will avoid the

long queues and waiting times that were a feature of the

former process. Orders placed prior to 18th January 2017

will be delivered to your home in time for the start of the

school year which is 31st January 2017.

Parents who would prefer to make payments at the school office rather than online can still do so. Families experiencing financial difficulties can enter into a payment plan. The office staff Lyn, Sue, Robyn and Janet can provide either phone or personal assistance with ordering or payment.

Recent heavy rainfall across the state has led to ideal breeding conditions for mosquitoes. Current and predicted weather conditions, particularly in the northern part of the state, suggest that high numbers of mosquitoes will

continue well into the summer months. Schools are advised of important protection measures to prevent spread of diseases.

From The School Council Vice President…

Dear Parent/Carers

School Council met on Wednesday 26th October. This was our first meeting for Term 4. There was no meeting in September due to school holidays.

We heard that the predicted school enrolment for 2017 is between 450 to 460 students.

There will be a whole school Curriculum Day on Friday 9th December to plan next year’s curriculum so students will not be required at school on that day.

School Council reviewed and ratified the following policies at the last meeting:

Flexible Work Policy

Refund Policy

Curriculum Policy

Reimbursement Policy

All policies can be found on our website http://www.rowvilleps.vic.edu.au/index.php/news/policies and have been published on Compass.

We had a discussion about the staff carpark at the front of our school. Safety of the students is of the utmost concern of the staff and School Council of Rowville Primary School. We have formed a Traffic Management Sub-committee to develop strategies to improve carpark safety. We ask that all parents do not use the staff carpark, especially before and after school to drop off or pick up children. We do not want anybody hurt by cars in the carpark and we have had several near misses in the past.

We discussed the Parent Payments for each child for 2017. We were very happy to hear that Rowville Primary School has the cheapest Essential Student Learning Items out of all Primary Schools in the area. This year we will also be able to order our children’s books from Staples online and we will have the ability to decide whether we need to buy new colouring in pencils, pencil cases etc instead of the previous system. We will even be able to have the book packs delivered to our homes.

As a result of many families contributing to the Voluntary Building Fund over the years, the outside of our school will be repainted next year during the school holidays between Terms 1 and 2. We were hoping to have it done over the Christmas holidays, but were advised it was too hot for the paint to dry properly. Over the Christmas holidays our gym floor will be sanded back and repolished ready for 2017.

We also heard about how well the Before and After School students have settled into Camp Australia. Presently 15 children on average attend Before School Care and 38 on average attend After School Care. The children can participate in a variety of activities during this time and have a variety of foods to choose from for breakfast and/or afternoon tea.

It is hard to believe that the end of the year is coming up so quickly. Our next meeting will be held on Wednesday 23rd November at 7.30pm in the Staff Room.

I would like to wish you all a safe and happy Term 4, especially the Years 6 students as you enjoy your last term of Primary School.

We seek your cooperation in preventing this situation.
