PUB LUNCH KENSINGTON LEGION MARCH 2013

COMMUNITY KITCHEN APRIL & OCTOBER 2013

This was volunteering at the

Community Kitchen (April

2013) where we were sorting

out the goods. And it is not

just all work – as you can see,

we have lots of fun, and who

wouldn’t? Just take a gander

at our “Cantaloupe Man”

(AllanTimms)- he is the clown

of the group!!!

There were 33 happy go-lucky retirees in

attendance.

Packing, sorting, moving the boxes and

they keep going and going….just like

the “Energized Rabbit” on a Duracell

advertisement. Could you ask for

more?

Master Baker – Larry Carr

You call this baking????

been the “Sampler!” Carl

On another occasion, (October 2013) these indefatigable group of

retirees came back to the Community Kitchen to “bake”. This

volunteering effort is coordinated by Larry & Ann Carr.

It was a beautiful day for a ride all the way to

Rosebud, Alberta to watch a play. Bev Rumsey

amused the group with some of her games.

Before lunch, everyone roamed around and took

in the sights, then to the gift shop for some

shopping, followed by lunch and then off to the

theatre to watch “Barefoot in the Park” – a seam-

splitting comedy, then home. What a wonderful

day it was!!!

SPRING LUNCH AT STAGEWEST MAY 2013

PATIO LUNCH AT FOX HOLLOW JULY 2013

“Seafood Friday” at Stagewest

This was originally a BBQ to be held

at the Lynwood Ranch, but the “Big

Flood” in June took Calgary and

surrounding areas by surprise

creating havoc and uncertainty.

It was still a beautiful and sunny day enjoyed by

many. As the sun got brighter and stronger we

continued the party inside.

GOLF AND LUNCH AT HARVEST HILLS AUGUST 2013

After a nine-hole game of golf on another

beautiful day, the morning culminated with

a “healthy” lunch of soups and sandwiches,

cheeses and desserts marking the end of

another well attended event.

VETERAN’S FUND RAISING PROJECT NOVEMBER 4-8, 2013

ZOOLIGHTS DECEMBER 2013 ALPINE SKIING DECEMBER 2013

One of the most notable volunteering events was putting a

fund raising event for the Veterans’ Food Bank which was

organized in conjunction with Remembrance Day and held

in the foyer of Western Canadian Place with the approval of

Husky’s Corporate Communication. This year, HRC raised

$6,6,40.00 in cash donations and around 300 lbs. of food

donations.

Bev Rumsey and Bill Miller

The amazing HRC volunteers….forever giving!

Fourteen (14) volunteers came out to brave the

cold weather once again, but with the usual

candor and enthusiasm….fire pits and hot

chocolate were there to warm them up!!

A new undertaking by HRC member Vic Wiebe

took five (5) retirees to ski Sunshine Village which

had 6-12” of new snow. It was a very windy day

so they stayed low skiing the Wawa and

Wolverine runs. A potential date of January 8,

2014 is being planned.

ANNUAL CHRISTMAS LUNCHEON DECEMBER 2013

Served to start with was an appetizer of

Bruschetta with Capicollo and Prosciutto, a

salad of Mixed Greens followed by a choice

of Grilled Chicken, Pan-seared Halibut or

Stracchi Crepes with seasonal vegetables and

topping it off with Vanilla Crème Brulee and

Ice Cream Crepes of Vanilla and Chocolate

smiles, these 55 HRC retirees had a

wonderful time!
