Acting Principal’s Report Hello to all the parents and friends of the Creswick North Primary School Community. I am in the role of Acting Principal for this term while the position of Principal is advertised and subsequently, filled. I am very excited to be here and my first week and a half in the role has been very enjoyable. I have loved meeting and working with the students and the staff here and gradually I am getting to say ‘hi’ to the parents at the beginning and end of each day. I come to Creswick North Primary after an Acting Principal role at Mount Egerton Primary School. Prior to this role, I have had permanent positions as Principal in schools in Melbourne. After many years living in Melbourne, I now live in Lal Lal with my husband, Bernard, two children, Celia and Ruby, and an assortment of horses, goats, cats and dogs. We hope to have chickens one day but not until I am able to build the coop! It was terrific to see parents, children and staff come together on Saturday last weekend for our working bee. We had so much gravel and mulch to spread, not to mention the digging, raking, weeding and pruning, in order to get the place looking tidy and impressive for the Market this coming Saturday. We were fortunate to be donated an entire truck load of mulch from Tree Top Tower Hire. This was greatly appreciated. Everyone worked so hard and we were rewarded with BBQ sausages and drinks courtesy of Miranda Chalmers and Lesley Vanderpol. Thank you to everyone for all your efforts. This Saturday is our Market Day. Classes, staff and parents have been extra busy with the preparations and the weather looks like it will be fine so we hope to have many visitors and a successful venture. Thank you to all those parents who have dedicated many hours and a great deal of energy to ensuring this will be a well organised and enjoyable day. If you haven’t put your name down for assisting on the day yet, please contact Miranda Chalmers via the school or ClassDojo. We look forward to seeing everyone there. Traditionally Term 4 is very busy in schools and it looks like Term 4 at Creswick North Primary School will be no different. We have many activities happening as the term progresses including a 5/6 Camp, Year 6 Graduation, Bike programs, a Cricket day, a Golf day as well as Year 6 Transition programs and Kindergarten to Foundation Transition days, not to mention the ongoing learning and teaching. We will send home reminders each fortnight through the Newsletter and you should already have a Term 4 calendar – we will reprint this in each Newsletter to enable you to update your copy as new events are added. On Thursday 26th October at 2:45pm, I will be hosting a Meet the Acting Principal afternoon tea for parents. I have seen so many positive things in and around Creswick North Primary school, I am keen to find out what parents see as the best and special things that make Creswick North Primary their school of choice, so come along and have a chat over a cuppa! I’m looking for-ward to it. Here’s to a great Term 4!

Year Foundation/1 It has been a fabulous start to Term 4 for Foundation & Year 1 students. The students are excited about our investigations on mini-beasts this term. They have been exploring the school yard, finding many different mini-beasts. They were particularly engaged with the large spider nest they discovered on one of the trees! Students have been very busy in the classroom with their learning and establishing new routines. Currently, in literacy, we are focussing on understanding what we read and writing procedures. In mathematics we have been busy investigating halves and addition. Many parents have come in to introduce themselves and it has been fantastic to be welcomed into the community. If you have any concerns regarding your children’s learning please do not hesitate to come and see me. Andrea Hood Foundation/Year 1 Teacher

Year 2/3/4 Welcome back to school! It is hard to believe that Term 4 is already upon us. Over the last two weeks we have been doing a lot of work in Maths on fractions, mapping and symmetry. The children have been identifying symmetry in the environment and have enjoyed taking photographs of objects that have lines of symmetry. Our students have been busily learning about fractions of collections of objects. Please take the time to quiz your child on this topic to help to reinforce their un-derstanding. In English, students have been refining their narrative writing skills and focusing on creating interest for the reader. They have also been learning about the importance of reading fluently. Opportunities to practice this skill by reading aloud at home, would be greatly appreciated. Mrs Baulch and Mrs McLennan
