May all of us appreciate what we have because of their service and sacrifice. Join us on November 11th for dinner and a ceremony. The absolute deadline for tickets is November 4th. Check out the poster for more details. Don’t forget another time to give thanks. On November 28, the HOA is sponsoring a catered dinner for residents and guests. All attendees must have tickets. Election of Board Members
Volunteers are needed to serve on the Board of Directors for the HomeOwners’ Association
beginning in February. We are looking for 4 candidates. Two 3-year openings are available as we say goodbye to Toots Lobe and Shirley Ashbaugh. One 2-year and one 1-year position are also available. Those positions currently have appointed people who are eligible to officially run. As a Board member, you are asked to attend the monthly Board of Directors meeting on the second Tuesday afternoon and the monthly HomeOwners Association meeting on the second Wednesday evening. In addition, you will need to read and review the state statutes that govern our type of association (Chapter 723). There are responsibilities that the Board undertakes in regard to celebrating specific holidays. We look for candidates that enjoy the community and the residents that live here. If you are interested, please submit your resume to Nominating Committee Chair, Kathleen Sirois, Ed Buckley, or Shirley Ashbaugh. These resumes need to be published in the December and January newsletters. The newsletter deadline is the 15th of the month.
Blood Drive
There will be a blood drive on Thursday, December 26 from 10:00 to 12:00 at the clubhouse. Please do not use the golf cart parking spaces so there is room for the bus to park.
Thanks from Rick Wren
Rick wishes to thank all the people who pitched in and brought him food this summer when he was recovering. He was overwhelmed. It indeed takes a village!!!
Thanks from Phyllis Pavlak
Water Fitness Water Fitness should be back in full swing by the time you read this newsletter. For any newcomers (or old-timers who may not know) we meet Monday, Wednesday and Saturday from 10-11. We do 35-45 minutes of low-impact aerobics followed by stretching and toning exercises. This is done to music - mostly the oldies. It's a time to move and socialize. All are welcome. And don't forget another opportunity to move about in the pool is on Thursday night and Friday morning for water volleyball. Questions? See or call Gee Sauvageau at 873-4301.
Phyllis says thank you to her many friends and acquaintances for the many birthday cards. Thanks to Pat B, Milda K, Shirley A, Debbie M and Gail S. for the cake which arrived at Bingo Tuesday night.

Christmas Project for Veteran's Village
Gallon-sized “ditty bags” are made by some of the Saddle Oak Stitchers and filled by members of SOC for the veterans at the Veteran’s Village in Ocala. These bags are to be filled with snacks and small gifts and/or gift cards. They especially like the small snacks. A suggestion list is inside each bag. A Christmas card is enclosed in each bag for you to sign and any comment you wish to make. Ditty bags will be available Nov. 1, to fill for the 50 residents at the Veteran's Village. All bags need to be returned to Joann Barber by the first Saturday in December. Questions? Call Joann Barber at 352-304-8579.
Christmas Stockings and Angels
Christine Parkinson (352-816-1814) reports on these two projects from the Salvation Army.
Stockings: The stockings are for disadvantaged children, so please be generous. They can be filled with toys, school supplies, socks – any small item that fits into the stocking. Please, NO snacks, candy or other edibles. Before you start, pick an age range and whether it’s for a boy or a girl. Then
make sure all the items are appropriate for that age. Mark the age and the sex on the stocking board. Return to Christine by NOVEMBER 15th.
Angels: On October 25 Christine will pick up the names for children. We will start with two children who need gifts for Christmas. We will supply them with a complete outfit and toys and other gifts. Christine will break down the needs and place them on individual angels. You can get an angel from the tree set up in the clubhouse. When you purchase the gift, please attach the angel to it and place it in the box provided in the clubhouse. The boxes will be color coded to match the angel. DO NOT WRAP THE GIFT. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
Christmas Events Light Up Saddle Oak This is a time for residents to decorate outside their houses for Christmas. Prizes (1st place - $25, 2nd place - $15 and 3rd place - $10 gift cards) will be awarded. Judging (by anonymous residents) will be Thursday, December 12. Have your lights on by 7:00 pm. On Saturday evening there will be a golf cart parade. Dress up your carts and/or yourselves and join the entertainment. Line up is by the bocce court @ 5:30 pm. The parade will begin at 6:00 pm. Following the parade there will be refreshments in the clubhouse for all residents. Come join the fun and ride around to see all the beautiful lights.
Cookie Exchange is going on hiatus this year, to return next December.
Christmas Dinner will be a catered event in the clubhouse on Wednesday, December 25. More details will be announced soon. Check the December newsletter.

BONES/JOINTS/MUSCLES. Healthy, strong bones provide structure to your body, protect the internal organs and anchor the muscles. (As we age, our bones become more brittle and muscles become weaker, but eating a nutritious diet now and maintaining a healthy body weight can help preserve bone and muscle strength.) For strong bones, you need two nutrients - calcium (strengthens bones and teeth) and vitamin D (helps absorb calcium and improves bone growth). For strong and healthy muscles, you need protein.
