Dear Parents,The real run-in to Christmas started today with the most magnificent Christmas Fair. The children had a fantastic time, decked out in the most wonderful display of vibrant, multi-coloured jumpers and I am hoping the special presents for Mum and Dad were remembered amidst the fun and excitement! Huge thanks go to all the PTA, the committee, parent helpers and especially Janie Cartledge and Gemma Burnand for decorating Santa’s Grotto and Irene Dowd, Tamara Ward and Caroline Bryant for coordinating the whole project. Next week we have the delights of the Nativity performances from Nursery/Recep-tion and Years 1 and 2 to look forward to, followed later in the week by the Years 3 and 4 Carol Service at St Mary’s Church in Chesham. U9 Girls Football Festival at York House

Nursery taste a French breakfast

On Tuesday, three pupils from Year 5 (Mia R, Ava N and Henry W) went to The Oratory School as part of their History competition finals day. They were in the top 20 of over 200 entries. The pupils took part in a History workshop and got to play a Tudor sport called ‘Real Tennis’. Sadly wthey didn’t win the overall prize but the three of them did really well to get to the finals and represented Chesham Prep superbly on the day.

After getting on the minibus the journey would have been boring if we hadn’t been singing along with the radio for an hour and a half. We arrived at our first match to play Seaford College and the A team beat them 30-15 and the B team beat them 12-5. John scored a brace and Oscar, Dylan, and Ming Jun made excellent runs up the wing. We had two new boys in the team, Darshan and Alex. They both did brilliantly, consistently making huge runs and tackles. After the match we went to McDonald’s for supper where we could choose anything we wanted! We then had a game of bowling before heading to our hostel to sleep. In the morning, we all had a full English breakfast- it was delicious. We then went back on the minibus to play our final match against Cumnor House. In the A team there was one very tall and strong boy who kept running through our defensive line, but we soon realised that if we had four boys on him we could take him down with ease. Even though it was raining and bitterly cold, we still did extremely well and won both matches. After the match we packed our bags and got ready to go home.

On Thursday, the U9 girls played another brilliant afternoon of football. They had four matches and played some excellent football throughout the afternoon, scoring team goals that started from a defender making a tackle, passing it through the team and scoring at the other end.

All the girls changed positions and adapted very well, and it was a nice bonus that every girl scored a goal! The girls onlyconceded two goals in the whole afternoon, a fantastic effort by all.

Nursery have been learning all about the five senses in class. This morning the children put their own senses to the test and had a French breakfast in their French lesson. They touched, tasted and smelt pieces of fruit, brioche and pain au chocolat and learnt to say whether they liked them or not.

PTA Christmas Fair

Years 3 and 4 E-safety talks

EYFS MIX 96EYFS are supporting the Mix 96 Toy Appeal this year! The appeal is a great opportunity for the children to learn about the importance of community and caring for others, whilst helping disadvantaged children at the same time. If you would like to support us please bring in a new, unwrapped toy and put it in the basket by the door in Reception R. Thank you for the wonderful gifts that have been donated so far!

This week, Years 3 and 4 had visits from ‘Hazard Alley’ experts, who came to speak to the pupils about internet safety. During the workshop, the children were shown videos, filled in worksheets and were informed about how to stay safe when using their devices.

This Friday, the PTA Christmas Fair filled the Adlington Hall and the children came into school in their festive mufti and Christmas jumpers. The Hall was transformed into a festive wonderland full of exciting gift stalls, sweets and games. Throughout the day, the children had great fun buying and wrapping presents, making reindeer food and visiting Santa in the grotto! Thank you for all your donations, the Fair was a roaring success and a massive congratulations goes to the PTA team for organising this fantastic event.

U10 Rugby Festival at Haileybury

Reception make Christmas hatsReception are ready for Christmas and have made Santa hats with their glittery initials on in Art.

6B design a new £50 note

Christmas cross-stitch

The children have mastered the skill of cross-stitching in Art and have been sewing Christmas trees to make festive Christmas cards.

The Bank of England are creating a new £50 note and want it to feature someone who has contributed to science. 6B have been creating their own designs for the £50 and have each chosen an inspiring scientist to put on the front.

The U10A team went to Haileybury School for a rugby festival on Wednesday. Despite the awful weather conditions Chesham Prep played some fantastic attacking rugby and showed great determination in defence. The team produced their best display of the season in the festival. They played 5 matches in total against good opposition. They beat Kingshott and Beechwood Park, drew with Heath Mount and St Columba’s and lost against a very good Lochinver House. Michael Owen, ex-Wales and British Lion, now Head of Rugby at Haileybury, spoke highly of our team’s performance during the festival. The team should be proud of their performances and represented the school very well.
