Stage 3 Election Day Stall A huge thank you to all the students, parents and teachers who supported the Stage 3 Election

Day stall with contributions of baked goodies and volunteering to run the stall on a busy

Saturday morning. As a result of your efforts $500.00 was raised and Stage 3 students have

decided to buy 15 bales of hay for farmers and several hampers to give to families affected by

the drought. It was a great response from the community and we are very pleased that our

efforts helped in a positive way.

Thank you

Naplan Year 3 and 5

Online 2019

NAPLAN assesses literacy and

numeracy – important skills that

each child needs to succeed in

school and life. The NAPLAN tests

are designed to help us make sure

students are on track with their

literacy and numeracy

development. Students in Years 3, 5,

7 and 9 participate in NAPLAN tests

for reading, writing, conventions of

language (spelling, grammar and

punctuation) and numeracy.

Between the 14—24 May, our school

will participate in NAPLAN Online.

Students do not need to be

computer experts to take the

NAPLAN test online. Making sure

students have computer skills is part

of our school curriculum, and our

teachers will ensure your child is

familiar with the online format. To

see the types of questions and

interactive features of NAPLAN

Online, visit the public

demonstration site:

If you have any questions about

NAPLAN Online, please contact

your child’s teacher.

The Stage AP's will add another

reminder in their Stage Newsletter at

the start of next term.

Anzac Day Celebrations Anzac Day Ceremony— Friday 12 April Anzac Day

March—Thursday 25 April

On Friday 12 April, our school will commemorate ANZAC

Day with a morning assembly commencing at 10.30 am.

In addition to our school event, we have also been

invited to participate in the annual Tweed Heads &

Coolangatta ANZAC Day March to be held on

Thursday 25 April, 2019. This day commemorates an

important part of our history and many students in the

past have proudly represented our school for the march.

Teachers will supervise children during the march.

Students are invited to assemble at the Jack Evans Boat

Harbour in Boundary Street, Tweed Heads (next to the

children’s playground) at 10.10am for the march to begin

at 10.30am. Students are asked to wear full school

uniform. They should also wear a school hat, have

sunscreen and insect repellent on and bring a water

bottle. Students are also asked to stay for the formal

ceremony which begins at 11.00am. They will then be

provided with refreshments from the RSL before they will

be released to enjoy a great day with their families. We

look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on the

day.

Literacy Groups

WOW! What a busy first Term

we have had in KB!.

We love working with our sounds

on the whiteboards, making

words, writing sounds and saying

them out loud.

On Mondays we developed our soccer skills with

Bazza learning how to dribble,

stop, turn and kick and run.

Soccer

KB is the place to be!

The end of the term is near, which means the

holidays are here. Yet there’s still much to be

done and a Cross Country Carnival to be run.

Benches and seats to build, in the bottom field.

Yummy food to bake, so happy families we

make!

Yard Blitz

“The Mango Bench” is what I’m calling this

natural and quite comfortable seat as it is

located under the mango tree. Very original, I

know! As you can see it can hold many students.

To fix the slab on, the boys (and I) had to figure

out what part of the slab needed to be chiselled

out using our measuring tape. Then we went

about chiselling out two bottom sections to

flatten the rounded part of the tree so it sits well

on the legs. Following that, we drilled holes

through the slab and then into the uprights,

before screwing the slab down with 100mm

stainless steel screws. That kept us busy the whole

middle session. Congrats boys on a fantastic job!

I think we’ll sand it back now.

Canteen Kitchen Rules Honey Soy Chicken Stir-fry was on the menu last

week for the Canteen Kitchen Rules team. The

cooking part went well. A few little touches of

the fry-pan, but we’re getting better. The hardest

part, and best part was what was happening

behind the scenes. The conversations that took

place and the personal stretching that was

happening. I was so proud of the lads for pushing

through and producing the goods in the end.

Maths Group It’s always pleasing when you see students have

“ah-ha” moments because they get it. We’ve

had a few of those recently. The only other thing

I would like to say to all stage 2 and 3 students is

Please learn your times tables! You will need

them.

Green Thumbs Weeds. Weeds. Weeds. What a battle, hopefully

one we’ll win! Let’s see how they handle an

organic poison!

All the best for another fortnight.

Fundraiser Fun

Your P&C committee has been busy planning

lots of great events that will help us support our

kids.

Mother’s Day Stall All the fabulous gifts for our annual Mother’s

Day stall have been ordered, ready for our

little shoppers. The kids get so excited about

bringing in their money and getting to hand

pick something special from our shop. Gifts

start from as little as $1.00. Keep an eye on our

Facebook page for the date of the stall but it

will most likely be the second week back next

term. We’re in need of a few volunteers to

come along and help with serving the kids so if

you’d like to help out please get in touch!

5 cent Drive Got a lot of pesky five cent pieces weighing

your wallet down? Don’t despair, we’re

running our famous 5cent competition during

the first two weeks of next term – get rid of

your 5cent pieces by donating them to us!

Each class will have a collection tin and we’ll

be giving away first, second and third prizes to

the classes that bring in the most coins. All

money raised will help us fund a badly needed

new oven for our canteen!

Federal Election BBQ

Just when you thought all the political

campaigning was over – nope, there’s a

federal election due very soon and once

again our school will be a local polling station.

We intend to host a democracy sausage sizzle

for all the voters passing through and we’d be

very grateful for some helping hands to sell or

turn the sausages at our BBQ. The election

date hasn’t been decided on yet but it’s

expected to be a Saturday in mid-May.

Amazing Feet The wonderful Athletes Foot has forwarded the

P&C a cheque for $175.00 ! They have

donated $5.00 each time someone buys a

pair of shoes and mentions our school!

That equates to 35 pairs of shoes bought by

our supporters since November! THANK YOU!

Any shoe, any size – it all helps. Just remember

to mention Bilambil Public School at the time of

purchase. Thank you Athletes Foot!!

Healthy and Delicious! Hats off to our amazing canteen coordinator

Danelle and all her wonderful canteen

volunteers. Not only do they keep our kids fed

when our fridges (or our energy levels) are

empty, but they do it with the nutrition of our

kids in mind. NSW Health recently popped in to

check out our menu and gave our canteen a

score of 83%! Wow! The Department of

Education has set a goal of 75% or above so

we are well and truly meeting our

requirements.

Positions Vacant We are still searching for a secretary, treasurer

and uniform shop coordinator. Our most urgent

need is for a secretary. We have a treasurer

and uniform shop coordinator but this is their

last year so we’re hoping to find someone to

step in as their wing man and learn the ropes

so it will make a nice smooth transition for next

year!

Stay Informed In 2019 our meetings will be held on Monday

afternoons at 3.15pm in the school staff room.

Next term’s meeting dates are 13 May and 17

June. We’d love to see you there.

We’re on Facebook Stay in touch with what’s happening at our

school by joining the P&C Facebook page.

You’ll get to hear about events the P&C is

planning, uniform or canteen specials, and all

sorts of things we think parents and families

want to know about and it’s an easy way to

send us a message when you can lend us a

hand at one of our events. It’s fun and there’s

no pressure, plus we reward you with points you

can redeem at our canteen or uniform shop!
