Activities

At our monthly Resident Council meetings, we share our ideas of what we would like to be doing during the next month. We also talk about any current problems. We also chat about out weekend activities during “What’s Up?: meetings on Monday mornings. Weekly Bible study has been helpful to all who attend. We received palms for Palm Sunday. We also made pictures for Easter and sticker pictures of springtime flowers  We saw slides of the Holy land at Easter time and also travel pictures of New Zealand, Australia and Bali. We each took a nature book and reported on some animal, bird or insect that reminded us of spring. It was fun to hear the diversity of nature chosen. We did well in geography quizzes and also questions about characters in books. A group of excellent actors read parts in a fascinating play.  We created some no-bake peanut butter cookies. It’s fun to share projects and ideas together.

We continue to enjoy Leslie Sansone’s Walk Away The Pounds DVD. There are two daily exercise groups. The DVD offers a great warm-up using movements as if you were holding a ball in each hand. Whether you use the weight or not, you can feel the results in your arms and it helps with your balance. It feels good to keep our bodies moving and healthy and to get the energy going. Our exercisers and walkers or swimmers are, Luanne, Steve, Patricia, Brian, Dan Z., Joan, Rick, Carla, Peggy, Marilyn, Ronnie, Cheryl, Rose, Dan J., Tim, Mike, Kathleen and Johanna. At the end of the week, our exercisers are rewarded with a cool bottle of water. We are committed to staying flexible and healthy.

Our YouTube time is still a big hit as we listen to and watch favorite music videos on the TV. Lately, Dan Z. Has been choosing Jackson Brown, “On The Boulevard” for music appreciation. Luanne: Van Morrison's, "Brown Eyed Girl" or BB King and U2, "When Love Comes to Town". Kathleen our 80's girl: The Cars or maybe Phil Collins. Lucille: Helen Reddy, "I Don't Know How to Love Him". Wanda likes to pick a song from one of her favorite musicals: The Sound of Music or Carousel. Mike still requests what he call "the usual": John Lennon's, "Imagine" and Dylan's, "Knocking on Heavens Door". Steve: Van Morrison, "Whipping Post". Carla: George Harrison's, "Sweet Lord", Tim: Stevie Wonder, "Superstition" Peg: Il Divo's, "Ava Maria". Rose: Barbara Streisand. Patricia: Carly Simon and James Taylor, singing "Mockingbird".

Patty: anything by Adele. Lee: Dmitri Shostakovich, 1st symphony, 1st movement. Sam: Stevie Ray Vaughan, "Tightrope". Johanna: Beatles, "Twist and Shout". Brian: Santana, "Winning" and Joan: Barry Manilow, "Mandy".

March MadnessThere were no resident birthdays this month so the three restaurants that were picked out of the proverbial hat were Savoy, the fish fry at St. Matthews and the St. Clair Broiler. Carla, Lucille, Tim, Kathleen, Brian, Sam, Patricia, Joan, Patty, Johanna took part in a lunch or dinner out.

We had a great St. Patty's meal and party! Those who were not wearing green or wanted more luck of the Irish had the opportunity to adorn themselves with beads and hats for the festive occasion.

Some of the games we have played over the last couple months were, a bean bag toss, Guesstures (like charades) and trivia.

Our Movie Critic's Corner for March was the movie The Power Rangers at the Woodbury Theater. We had 4 thumbs up from Dan Z., Tim, Patricia and Kathleen for this good guys vs bad.

We had a lovely visit at Mike's friend Tom's house. We had great conversation, Kona coffee and pie! Luanne, Carla, Kathleen, Patricia, Mike, Cheryl and Johanna went on this adventure.

Ronnie, Patty, Kathleen, Rosanne, Tim and Carla had a fun time playing skeet ball in South Minneapolis.

Library lovers for this edition were Marilyn, Rick, Ronnie, Johanna, Kathleen, Carla, Sam Patricia and Lee. We have been going once a week for our movie viewers, music listeners and book readers or those who would just like to go for the ride.

Aqueous April

Marilyn picked Olive Garden for her birthday. Johanna, Dan Z., Wanda, Sam and Lucille took pleasure in this Italian eatery. Mike's birthday was the Golden Corral, a popular buffet restaurant. That was a new one for all of us except Mike. He knew what treats to savor first at this new eatery. Cheryl and Patricia went there to help him celebrate. Another trip was made to the long awaited Golden Corral and

those that went were Kathleen, Tim, Luanne, Joan, Patty, Brian and Carla.

Luanne, Patricia, Brian, Joan, Carla, Peg, Cheryl, Lucille, Dan Z., Kathleen and Johanna watched a movie in house about the Glacier National Park. It was fascinating!

This month we had a little trip to Hudson, WI to have coffee at Marge and Shorty's house. It was an enjoyable ride and wonderful hospitality at our destination. Those who took the little road trip to WI were Carla, Lucille, Kathleen, Tim and Johanna.

Kathleen, Joan and Patricia went to church services during the month of March and April.

We took part in many Easter activities. Cupcakes were decorated to enjoy for dessert using frosting and shredded coconut and jelly beans to make an edible nest. Some of our edible nests were also sugar free. Our Pastry chefs were Brian, Patty, Johanna, Kathleen and Ronnie.

To help Peter Rabbit, there were eggs to be colored and dyed too. Dazzling up those white eggs were Dan Z., Ronnie, Brian, Johanna, Patty, Carla, Steve, Joan, Kathleen and Lucille. Those were enjoyed later to become deviled eggs, or with holy week, "Angelic" eggs. Easter would not be complete without an egg hunt. That rabbit hid many eggs in the living room and dining room! All received these little pastel filled delights. We did find one a couple weeks later that was not found.

We had a a friend from Washington visit with her almost 3 month old teacup Chihuahuas. They were so much fun to hold and to watch play. All got to hold Tanto and Rosemary that wanted a little puppy love!

On Monica's last day, a fire pit was enjoyed and smores were consumed. It smelt like we were in the woods and not like were in the city. Kathleen, Carla, Patty, Steve, Brian, Rick, Sam, Johanna, Joan, Lucille and Wanda took part in what one could almost pretend was a cabin adventure up North.

Our Sunday Bingo players for March and April were Dan Z., Johanna, Lucille, Kathleen, Patty, Marilyn, Dan J. and Joan.

January and February MCD coffee or soda partipants were, Patricia, Luanne, Rick, Tim, Patty, Peg, Kathleen, Brian, Joan, Carla, Marilyn, Ronnie, Sam, Lucille, Wanda, Mike, Johanna and Dan Z. No matter what franchise we go to this is a favorite. MCD is always nice for socializing.

March and April shoppers and errand participants may have gone to the following: Target, Dollar Tree, Great Clips, Pearle Vision, Har Mar, Walmart, thrift stores, Vision Works, Post Office, Walgreens, Schulers, JCP and Goodwill . Some of those that went were Luanne, Steve, Patricia, Joan, Rosanne, Lucille, Carla, Lee, Peg, Patty, Tim, Kathleen, Brian,

Marilyn, Sam, Wanda, Johanna, Ronnie and Dan Z.

Inspirational Thought

To love means loving the unlovable. To forgive means pardoning the unpardonable. Faith means believing the unbelievable.  Hope means hoping when everything seems hopeless. (Gilbert K. Chesterton)

Environmental NewsHere is your country. Cherish these natural wonders, cherish the natural resources, cherish the history and romance as a sacred heritage, for your children and your children’s children. Do not let selfish men or greedy interests skin your country of its beauty, its riches or its romance. (Theodore Roosevelt) Earth Day was April 22. Every day is Earth Day!
