    News and AnnouncementsA wonderful time was had by all of us that participated withharvesting eggplants at the Community Farm on Saturday. Ahuge thank you to Mrs. Tolosczko for organizing such ameaningful event for all of us. We plan on going back as afourth grade group in the spring to help plant. We hope youwill consider joining us.

    Thank you to everyone who ordered books on-line. We earned9 new books for our classroom library as well as 5,000 bonuspoints to purchase books with. Keep reading!!!

    Literature Circles begin this week. During our language artsblock, your child will be introduced to their literature circle bookand assigned the required reading and think cards for theweek. The books and think cards should come home everynight and then return to school the next day. Your childrenwill have time during the day to work on their reading but themajority of the work should be completed at home as part ofnightly homework. For your child to participate in ourliterature circle discussions in a meaningful way, he/she needsto be prepared each week.

    I am looking forward to seeing many of you on September 27,2011 for Curriculum Night at 6:300pm. We will meet in ourclassroom first (room 207) for 40 minutes. After that, Mr.Mabie will invite you down to the cafeteria for a brief talk.

    Read AloudAlthough outwardly Mark appears to be aspoiled rich kid that just doesnt care, weare getting to know why Mark is theperson he is. It will be interesting to see

    what happens as the children head outinto the woods for their week long fieldtrip at the State Park. Mr. Maxwellcontinues to try and reach out to Markwith no success at all.

    Social StudiesThere are many different types/toolsof maps - globes, flat maps, puzzles,atlases. This week we will explore themand hopefully work with map scales. Wewill focus on map scales and directionality
