The College of Social & Behavioral Sciences (SBS) is now accepting applications for its SBS Ambassador Program. The program provides undergraduate students with the chance to de-velop their leadership skills and to establish social and professional connections that last be-yond their time at the UA. Through their service to the College, SBS Ambassadors interact with faculty and staff members, the dean, the SBS Advisory Board, SBS alumni, donors, com-munity partners, and with other SBS students. These engagements provide the student with opportunities to hone public speaking and team-building skills and learn how to be an affec-tive mentor.

SBS Ambassadors play key roles in recruitment events, information sessions, student social gatherings, community service projects, SBS VIP events, and our SBS speaker series. Ambas-sadors are expected to commit approximately 25 hours per semester for a minimum of two semesters. Students are required to attend trainings and orientation meetings with college staff, meet with their mentor, and participate in 5 college events and 2 recruitment events each semester. Students who complete their first academic year in the program with a suc-cessful evaluation from the program coordinator will have the option to continue as an am-bassador their senior year. ELIGIBILITY: SBS Ambassadors are selected through a competitive process based on their high level of ac-ademic achievement, their outstanding leadership qualities, and their active engagement on and off campus. To be considered, students must:

Be enrolled in a primary major in SBS Have completed at least 6 units of courses offered by departments in SBS Be in junior (60-89 units) or senior (90+ units) standing Demonstrate strong speaking skills Have a minimum GPA of 2.5 overall and in the major Commit to serve for a minimum of one year

APPLICATION:

Attached please find the Application form. Applications must be submitted to the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences main office in Douglass Building Room 200 West no later than 5:00pm on Friday, September 27, 2013. Applications must include: an application form; two current letters of recommendation (one must be from an SBS instructor); two personal state-ments (explained on the application form); a résumé; and their unofficial UA transcripts.

If you answered YES to any of these questions, then apply to become an Arizona Ambassador! The Arizona Ambassador Honorary is a volunteer/service organization on campus and has been around since 1979. Ambassadors provide campus tours to prospective students on a daily basis and participate in numerous on and off campus recruitment events. The organization logs near-ly 1000 community service hours a semester. This is a great opportunity to share your unique Wildcat Experience, meet prospective students, improve your public speaking skills, make amazing networks and connections among the cam-pus community, and learn things about the university you NEVER knew! INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY at WINGSPAN

Southern Arizona’s LGBTQ Community Center

Are you interested in a career in the social services, secondary or higher education, public administration, or research? Almost all of these fields – including many other fields – rely, at some point, on grant funding. Having experience in grant research, writing, and administra-tion is a highly valuable and sought after set of knowledge and skills.

This internship opportunity is really one of a kind. What you will be offered:

A 1-day workshop at Wingspan on grant research, writing, and administration.

A detailed guide on grant research, writing, and administration along with research tem-plates and other organizational tools.

A very extensive list of leads on LGBTQ funding opportunities.

Training at Pima County Library about how to find non-internet based funding opportunities.

The opportunity to find appropriate funding for Wingspan, and in some cases, assist in writing an actual grant proposal (grant writing will be awarded to those who qualify and who can provide a writing sample of the appropriate quality).

Ongoing advice, support, and meetings with the Programs Manager at Wingspan.

Periodic group based support and progress meetings to share strategies and lessons learned.

Professional references and letters of recommendation for a job well done.

Certificate of Completion.

Requirements:

You must be a current undergraduate or graduate student at the University of Arizona.

You must have a sincere – and preferably a demonstrated interest in being an ally to the les-bian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, questioning, and queer community.

Ideally, you will have an interest in a professional career that will utilize knowledge in grant research, writing, and administration.

A minimum of 6 hours per week dedicated to the work, no max. Preference given to those who can complete at least 10 hours per week. Minimum of 4 consecutive months of partici-pation.

You must be dependable, complete the tasks/contract that you agree to, and provide high quality work.

A few select participants will be awarded the ability to write grant proposals and help

Wingspan actually receive funding. The majority of participants will be doing grant re-search and learning about the overall process. If you are not selected to write a proposal the first time around, you can participate in future iterations of the program and earn that opportunity.

Applications are due by Wednesday, October 2nd.

All applicants will receive notification of their status no later than Monday, October 7th. We have many openings. The initial workshop at Wingspan will take place on Saturday October 19th and will last most of the day. Food/beverages will be provided. Upon being accepted to the program, you will be provided the specific time/location of the October 19th work-shop. This workshop will provide you enough information to get started on your internship, and then the workshop at Pima County Library will occur within a month or so of that ini-tial workshop. Time for the library workshop is TBD.

The current internship program will run October 19th – February 19th. If you read this an-nouncement and find yourself too busy this semester to take part, there will be another identical opportunity presenting itself in Spring 2014, and then again during the summer months. If you would like to be considered for those later iterations of the program, please apply and indicate your availability. We will then contact you in the spring/summer. OSTP Student Volunteer Program—Spring 2014 The Office of Science and Technology Policy is currently accepting applications for its Spring 2014 Internship Program. The application deadline is 11:59pm Friday, October 4, 2013. Students who are U.S. citizens and who will be actively enrolled during the Spring 2014 se-mester are welcome to apply. The Office of Science and Technology Policy advises the President on the effects of science and technology on domestic and international affairs. The office serves as a source of scientific and technological analysis and judgment for the President with respect to major policies, plans and programs of the Federal Government. About the Internship Program. Interns are accepted for one of three annual terms (Spring, Summer, or Fall), which each last no more than 90 days. While these positions are without compensation, the as-signments provide educational enrichment, practical work experi-ence, and network opportunities with other individuals in the sci-ence and technology policy arena.

We are accepting applications for the Spring 2014 Arizona Legislative Internship Program!

Every spring semester, the University of Arizona, ASU and NAU send 50 talented undergraduate and grad-

uate students to Phoenix to work as legislative interns. Interns are placed in the Arizona Legislature, the

Supreme Court and the Governor’s Office to work on legislative politics. The work is demanding and re-

quires interns to work a minimum of 40 hours per week for 18 weeks beginning on Monday, January 6,

2014.

Students get hands-on experience summarizing bills, drafting amendments, researching issues, attending

committee meetings and hearings, making presentations before committees, and working on constituent

problems. Students gain knowledge and experience that enhances their education and ca-

reer possibilities. The professional networks interns form are invaluable and often lead to job opportuni-

ties.

For their work as interns, students receive:

$4700 stipend

Tuition & fees scholarship for the spring semester of their service

up to $500 for reimbursed moving expenses (for those who reside outside of Maricopa County)

12 units of academic credit for undergraduates and 9 units of academic credit for graduate students.

To be eligible to apply, students must:

Be a current student enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree.

Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.

Be in junior, senior or graduate student standing. Juniors must have a minimum of 75 units completed

at the end of fall 2013 to participate in the spring 2014. Seniors who are graduating in December

2013 are eligible to apply for the Spring 2014 internship program.

Students from all majors are encouraged to apply!

To learn more about this program, students are encouraged to attend our information session and a meet

and greet with staff members from the Governor's Office, Supreme Court, House and Senate. Students

who would like some helpful hints on the application process are invited to attend our Application and In-

terview Workshop.

Fall 2013 Study Abroad 101 The fall 2013 Study Abroad 101 schedule is now posted and the sessions started this week.

Study Abroad is pleased to announce a new information session se-ries this fall. Students may opt to come to one or multiple sessions. Ad-visors are also welcome. The session on September 11 will focus on study abroad opportunities by major for students in Psychology, Journalism, Political Science, Public Health, Communication, and Engi-neering. Region-specific information sessions will take place on Oc-tober 2 and will highlight programs in Spain and Latin America, Asia, Northern and Eastern Europe, Italy, Africa and the Middle East, English Speaking Countries, and Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

On Campus Interviewing: Resume Submission Deadlines & Information Sessions

It is a brand new fall semester and to date we have 96 employers registered for On- Campus Recruiting. Many companies

will be attending the UA Fall Career Days and many more will be participating with the recruiting season which starts Sep-

tember 30th to November 15th.

Attached is a list of employers with resume submission deadlines and # of resumes submitted for their schedule. Remem-

ber, please pay close attention to those schedules that are running light this semester (meaning, students are not submitting

their resumes to be considered for an interview). Some employers may cancel their visit due to low resume submission sign

up. On the report you will also find the job ID#, job description, full time/internship and the majors/conentrations of what is

being targeted.

Also attached is a list of upcoming information sessions. Attendance has been low in the past so please make sure you help

spread the word and the importance of attending an information session. The employers are eager to meet and speak to

the students so let's help get the word out!

Students must learn about what it means to "opt in" and about the $5.00 fee for the Wildcat Joblink campus interviewing

system to view and/or submit a resume for these positions. We do NOT accept hard copy resumes.
