FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK …
Week 8 has been very interesting with a lot of uncertainties. This situation is new for all of us, but I have confidence that everyone is doing the very best they can with the knowledge that they have. I am receiving daily advice from the Department of Education and Training and I can reassure families that we are maintaining a calm atmosphere and a continuous learning program for our students.
COVID-19 UPDATE At school we are continuing to be proactive to ensure the safety and wellbeing of
our students. As advised, we have instructed students to be ‘hands off’ at all times.
Students are also reminded to keep a minimum arms distance from others
whenever possible. As you may be aware additional measures were announced
yesterday:
Non-essential indoor gatherings of the general population of more than 100
people will no longer be permitted from Wednesday 18 March, however this
does not apply to schools and other settings deemed as essential.
Victorian schools remain OPEN, in line with the latest advice from Australia’s
Chief Medical Officer and Victoria’s Chief Health Officer. The decision for schools
to remain open is based on the best medical and health advice.
In the event of school closures, the DET has developed the new Learning from
Home website, which will be provided to schools if/when required.
SCHOOL COUNCIL 2020 School Council met on Tuesday night and office bearers were elected into positions for the new school year. Our School Council president is Kylie Tatt, Vice-President is Renae Humme and Minute Secretary is Luke Davis. Thank you to those members for accepting the nominations and taking on those roles for our Council. Items discussed and endorsed by School Council were: Introduction of a new School jumper (to replace the previous polar fleece
jumper that is no longer available) Our next School Council meeting is Tuesday 19th of May.

END OF TERM 1 ARRANGEMENTS Term 1 finishes next Friday, March 27th at 2:30pm. Students will be able to wear casual dress with a gold coin donation, otherwise normal school uniform is expected. Gold coin fundraising will go towards.
All money raised on the day will be donated to the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday appeal. OSHC will be available from 2:30pm but places will be limited so please notify the office by Wednesday March 25th if you need the service to ensure that your child does not miss out.
COLOUR FUN RUN In light of current situation and after much discussion, we have regretfully decided to postpone our Colour Fun run until later in the year. Based on DET advice we are restricting whole school gatherings and contact. This event is a fantastic community event and we want everyone to have the chance to be involved so we feel it is best to hold off so that parents and other family members can be there to enjoy and participate. We have contacted the Fundraising Company that it is run through, to see how best to facilitate this. Please stay tuned to the newsletter for future updates. Term 1 Uniform Order Due Back to School Thursday 26th March, 2020 The Term 1 Uniform Order Form is enclosed with today’s newsletter. Please consider what uniform you will need for winter and order it now as there has been considerable delays with uniform coming from overseas due to COVID-19 disruptions. If you would like to check sizing prior to ordering, please call into the school office. We have some sizes available to try on but due to uniform shortages, our stock is very depleted at the moment. As mentioned earlier in the school newsletter, a new style of jumper was approved at school council on Tuesday night. This jumper’s sizing is similar to our rugby style jumper. A photo of the jumper is included here so you can see what it looks like. Orders are due back to the school office by Thursday 26th of March.
What’s Coming Up? 23rd—25th March Prep Health Checks (DET School Nurse) Prep Health Checks will be conducted by Debbie Hughes, the Department of Education school nurse next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. If you have any queries regarding the Health Check, please contact either Claire Hannah or the school office.
27th March Easter Egg Hunt On the final day of Term One, it’s a tradition to hide bundles of small, chocolate Easter Eggs in classrooms for students to find. We ask that every family donates a packet of small, solid, plain chocolate eggs per student. Due to allergies, we ask that you please do not donate filled eggs or eggs containing nuts. A group of parent helpers will be counting and sorting the eggs into bags on Monday morning ready for Friday. If you have an hour to spare from 9:00am on Monday morning, please come to the school office to help out. Please make sure your Easter egg donations are brought to the office by Monday morning.
Reminders:
Adding Student Absences Onto Sentral: Please ensure you use this web link as we have updated to Portal 2:
https://sentral.lockwoodps.vic.edu.au/portal2/#!/login In this current climate, it is important that we track our absences and why children are away from school. If your child is not coming to school, please ensure you contact the school by phone, email or through entering the absence on Sentral. We are legally obliged to contact parents if we have not heard from them on the day of the absence. We appreciate your assistance with this matter.
