KG ANNUAL FUNCTION

The Srijan School saw a makeover for a day on 21 October,2011 when the classrooms, corridors, lobby and reception areas dis-played wonderful themes and concepts of science and EVS. The exhibits were made by students and their involvement in its presentation and narration was commendable. The central foyer had a gigantic figure of a carbon monster destroying the environ-ment. The theme carbon footprints and its impact on the envi-ronment was displayed vividly. The reception area was converted into the midnight sky and one could take a virtual space odyssey. It was an exhilarating experience. The well researched and crea-

tively made exhibits were displayed on themes like nature walk, grandma’s remedies, best out of waste, healthy eating habits etc. The primary school showcased innovative ideas in EVS, puzzles, experiments and exhibits of different habitats, useful plants, dances of some Indian states, etc. The students and parents spent the entire morning moving from one exhibit to another. The exhibition was enjoyed and appreciated and the efforts that went into organizing it was lauded alike, by stu-dents and parents.

The Annual Programme of the K.G. class, held on 15th and 17th December 2011, was

thoughtfully planned to enhance the confidence of children and to bring out their latent

talents.

It began with an orchestra played by a group of eighty two children who wonderfully syn-chronized their percussion in-struments to different beats played by the music teachers.

The Hindi play ‘Saptam’ was an interesting story of a little rainbow who gets attracted by the earthly pleasures and de-cides to come down. After go-ing through many experiences both good and bad, he begins to miss his home and decides to go back. The English play ‘Toto In Dark’ was based on the story of a turtle who was afraid of darkness and did not like to go inside his shell. Children enjoyed the theme and enacted it with great enthusiasm. While performing the Hawaiian dance, children gyrat-ed energetically to the melodious song. The riddles, jokes and stories narrated by children were enjoyed for everyone. The programme was enjoyed by participants, students and parents who applauded each and every effort of students.

KADAM

A wonderful initiative was taken by the Srijan School to reach out to parents of students with special needs. The Srijan School strongly believes that the hidden strengths of every child must be tapped, and commits itself towards extract-ing the best out of their potential.

For children with “different abilities”, an innovative and sensitive parent support programme called “KADAM” was started in October, 2011.The programme, held in three phases, was organized and implemented by the school. ‘Special needs cell’ aims at establishing a meaningful relationship between the parents as primary caretakers and the school’s professional support group. In order to achieve this, in the initial three sessions of the programme, parents of these

students were invited for an informal interaction and specialized inputs were provided in the area of ‘yoga to strength-en ourselves’, ‘healthy lifestyle’ and management of children with ADHD. This collaborative approach was much ap-preciated by the parents who felt less stressed and anxious about their wards after the inputs given by the Special Needs Cell. We intend to carry this programme forward with greater zeal and enthusiasm as it will go a long way in helping children realize their dreams.

Street Theatre Festival

The Srijan School believes in the multi-dimensional growth of the child and fosters progressive participative and in-

teractive methods in education. The cross curricular approach goes beyond academics. To facilitate this, ‘The Street

Theatre Festival’ was organized on the 29th November, 2011.

Street Theatre being one of the strongest mediums which facilitate expression of thought and generates public opinion

was the flavor of the season. Issues chosen were ‘Save childhood’ and ‘Save Water!’ as these need to be seriously dealt

with and if they remain unaddressed, they can cause severe impairment to society. There was tremendous enthusiasm

and children performed with great verve and vitality thereby showcasing their acting prowess.

resource person Mr. Shantanu Ganguli, Librarian at Library and Information Centre TERI, focused on automation and

digitization in libraries and the maximum use of technology for accessing and disseminating information.

SANSKRIT WORKSHOP

Ms. Meenakshi Subramanian, attended a workshop at St. Xavier’s School, Civil Lines, on the 21st of January 2012.

The resource person was Dr.Upendra Shastri, Principal, Saraswati Vidya Mandir, Jhandewalan, New Delhi. The focus of

the workshop was activity based teaching of Sankrit and CCE activities in Sanskrit.

LEADERSHIP TRAINING CAMP

The school organized an overnight ‘Leadership Training Camp’ for the elected and nominated Junior Student Council

Members that was conducted by Ms. Moloyashree Hashmi and for Senior School Council Members an amazing leader-

ship training session was organized by our honourable faculty headed by the Principal, Ms. Rashmi Mehta that filled

with dedication, strong motives and full on enthusiasm wherein creativity and new ideas were flowed in while redefining

perfection.

As leadership and learning are indispensible to each other. This learning experience helped the students, through dis-

cussions and activities to translate qualities of a leader and portray them in terms of an image in their minds and think-

ing.

Leadership is problem solving too, and to solve a problem one needs to lead the problem and have confidence to con-

clude it. Therefore, through role play, they experienced problem solving in different day to day situations that they en-

counter in school. The camp summed up with a better understanding of their roles. Staying together in the school prem-

ises strengthened team spirit and bonding.

CREATIVE PROBLEM SOLVING

A workshop was organized on Saturday the 10th of December, 2011 by IIT Delhi on Creative Problem Solving for and among school going children. The resource person was Dr Harish Choudhary, an eminent personality in the field of Child Psychology and education. Ms Suruchi Kalra and Mr. Kevin Ribeiro, attended the workshop. The workshop fo-cused on why students lose interest in classroom teaching and how teachers can make classroom teaching interesting by being humorous and by creating situations by which students can discover things for themselves, in which case they would not forget those lessons easily. In this way, the students will start doing most of their work on their own and the educators’ role would become easier. It was also explained that if students are exposed to many activities between the ages of 5-15 years, they will choose the activity that comes best to them and that will also facilitate the teaching –learning process and produce best results with least effort.

SAC ( Science Activity Center)

SAC activities are conducted for classes III-V every week to give children hands on experience and deal with real life objects and phenomena . This helps to develop skills of prediction, observation, data collection, understanding and analysis and inculcates scientific temperament in them . Children perform experiment individually and learn to han-dle equipment and record their observations. Some group activities are also done to develop better group dynamics and utilize available resources efficiently and effectively.

FRNV (Foundation for Restoration of National Values)

The FRNV workshops held in the school provides a forum for discuss-

ing the importance of Values in life. They will help in building collab-

orative efforts between school and parents in developing a framework

of values and norms and lay the foundation for value based education

for our children. “The Foundation for Restoration of National Values”

established in 2008, aims at restoring our national and cultural values

so that people individually as well as collectively, fuel an abiding inner

persuasion to be thoughtful, ethical and patriotic and are committed

Think n Ink Reading

We spend our time doing different things,

But some tasks seem boring,

Some people love reading,

While, for others, it leads to snoring…

Believe me, books are a treasure

And we should read them with pleasure.

The pages might be a lot, you may feel the pressure,

But the knowledge they give, we can never measure…

Ishan Dhankari (V Vindhachal)

Colours

Colours are many

Maybe seventy or ninety,

But if you don’t remember that many

go outside and look for them, they are a plenty.

It is a simple task to complete

The world is full of colours

Which no one can deplete.

The colours are deep as the ocean wide.

They are humble and have no pride.

The colours are infinite like the sky.

They inspire us to think high.

Jiya Maheshwari (II Saras)

Oh! Great God Oh! Great God in heaven above,

Keep us in your faith and love.

We sweet little children gather calling on you as a Father.

Guide and guard us all the way

Draw us closer day by day

Keep us pure, kind and true

Till we reach our home with you.

Relations Friends are leaves

Calm and cool

They are the good friends

In a friendship pool

They are the ones who are mine

They tell me when I am wrong.

Are they real friends? They must be...

In a problem, they help me out

They help me to cope when I break,

Watching every move that I make

This is our relation and this isn’t fake

Adding their feelings which are main

They, too, feel the grief when they see me in pain

Happily, merrily they hug me...

They are true, they accept me as I am

Thus, when faced with a problem, we heal and help each other…

An Optimistic Sunrise

Once, I was a little frustrated as I was trying to solve some questions in Maths, but I just couldn’t, no matter how hard I tried. It was quite late at night, so I decided to sleep. I was very disappointed with myself and lost hope of solving those questions.

The next morning, when I woke up at 6 o’clock I was amazed to see the weather outside- a fog filled morning with the sun peeping through it. The sight filled me with hope, a wish and a desire to make an effort to solve the questions. ‘Try and try ,till you succeed’ were the words that echoed in my mind. The rays of the sun made me hopeful and optimistic. They also reminded me of the fact that darkness is not permanent. The whole day I kept thinking about the greatest gifts we have got-life and nature. We just have to keep our mind open to let it guide us and leave an impression on us.

Vacation from Education

We want vacation from education:

But we usually get work on education, even in the vacation.

Vacation should be for expanding our imagination,

Meditating in front of the television;

And playing endlessly on play station.

I wonder who rhymed education with vacation; although there is a huge difference...

In my imagination, vacation means hibernation in the bed till noon; envisioning ideas that take us to

the moon...

I am sure my dear school mates, this poem will call for nothing less than appreciation.

Who said this is not education?

Siddhant Choudhary (7B)

“Papa, Why is the Sky Not

Visible?”

I did not have a reply to this simple question, when asked by my son. I thought over it in my sleep. It took me a long time to find the right answer because I

did not want to fool him.

One fine morning I replied, “ Since God can’t be anywhere, he has placed himself in so many things

around us-overlooking us, always taking care of us in the form of trees, the sky water, clouds, the sun, the earth, soil, etc. So God is actually all the time available, next to

you, helping you out. However, if we keep cutting the trees, polluting our rivers- we are actually moving away

from Him.”

After listening to the reply, my son was hap-py. More than him, I was happy....The next moment I

went out, stared at the sky, at the birds, at the birds, at the clouds...and immediately my hands folded. I was thanking mother nature. I could feel God’s presence

that moment..

Principal’s Message

If we can Make it through each day,

And get something Worthwhile accomplished.

If we can see Beyond our faults and

Make them be constructive. Just a little step that’s higher,

Just a little try again, Just a little sticking with it,

Is the only thing that will help us win. We shouldn’t give up.

and see, Life’s trials aren’t forever, It’s a way to make us see,

That tomorrow will be ………..even better. Dear Readers We feel pleasure in sharing the second issue of our school newsletter “Visages”.
