Dear Parents,

As the term is progressing staff and students in the Junior School have been making very good progress. Year

3 students successfully sat NAPLAN tests in their classrooms this year. Well done to both the staff and stu-

The quality of work was extremely high. The exhibits were visited by all students and then parents in the

a ernoon. Students also got to dress up in their cultural clothes and were treated to an Eid lunch pack to en-

joy with their classmates. In the Junior School students contributed a grand total of $311 through their gold

coin dona ons. These dona ons will be sent to a charity in the coming weeks. As we enter the last half of the

term there are s ll lots of exci ng things to get through including class projects, incursions, workshops, the

Our focus in teaching Arabic at AICS is to provide our

students with learning experiences that engage them

through a variety of enjoyable tasks.

Students are having fun using Arabic in classroom

ac vi es, interac ng with the teacher and with each

other through pair and group work. In addi on, as

you know we are using Quizlet (an online learning

approach). It helps students prac se and master

whatever they're learning. The teacher creates class

study sets that complement lesson’s content with

various language games. Quizlet tools are fun, engag-

ing and effec ve.

We are providing students with tools to assist them

in developing all their skills in the language and help

them express themselves in Arabic both orally and in

wri en form.

Eid in Kindergarten!

18th of May marked a very special day for all stu-

dents at AICS, par cularly our kindergarteners who

were bubbling with excitement to show their Eid/

cultural clothes to their teachers and friends!

Engulfed in a sea of colour, students could hardly

contain their excitement as they witnessed and

took part in their first ever mul cultural day at

school! Lots of colours and cultures stood out in all

classes in Kindy as students shared their Eid stories

and sparkled in their lovely ou its.

To add to the spirit of Eid, AICS held an Islamic Art and

Cultural Exhibi on on the day as well where the talent

of our kindergarteners shone brightly amidst the other

artworks on display. We have some very clever ar sts

in Kindy! Students were given an opportunity to

a end the exhibi on and look at all the cra y works

of art on display.

To make things more exci ng, the Eid Gi Exchange

was also held on the day in which students exchanged

wonderful gi s with their friends. The day really

brought the spirit of Eid to life. The day ended with big

smiles and lots of love and laughter!

Eid Mubarak!

The Australian Islamic College celebrated the Islamic Art Exhibi-

on and Eid which were held on 18/5/2021. Students and par-

crea ve work wearing mu i, exchanging Eid gi s and receiving a

hot snack provided to students by the school.

The work and models on display in The Art Exhibi on represent-

ed the Islamic faith and ethos. They included calligraphy,

Mosques, Kabba, Hajj events and Ramadan requirements. Each

piece of work showed a lot of effort and crea vity which lead to

the exhibi on being a great success.

Well done to all students who par cipated in this event to pre-

From the start of term 2, students have been learning

about the Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islanders in

both Geography and Visual Arts.

In Geography, students are learning how Indigenous

Australians changed the natural environment in Aus-

tralia and how the environment influences the human

characteris cs of the places. In Visual Arts, students

began to explore the ar s c methods and techniques

of the tradi onal indigenous art and s ll life. In both

subjects, students were able to learn and explore

different elements of the Aboriginal culture, their me-

dium of paints, symbols and tradi onal art methods to

represent personal iden ty.

On Anzac day, grade five teachers and students took

part in a variety of ac vi es to remember and com-

memorate all Australians and New Zealanders who

served and died in WW1. It is a great opportunity for

our students at AICS to learn, grow and develop about

the past, culture and tradi ons in Australia.

In Year Six, students have engaged in many meaningful

learning experiences throughout the term. In Literacy,

they learnt how to be Ad-Smart and make wise choic-

es. Peer pressure and prac cal strategies to deal with

it, is the hot topic for all the students during PDHPE

lessons. And to our surprise, Novel Study lessons are

loved by many Year Six students as they take a walk

through the history of World War I and the life of the

youngest ANZAC soldier to die during the ba le of

Gallipoli.

This term, Year Six also enjoyed some amazing celebra-

tory events such as Mother's Day to honour our amaz-

ing mothers, Mul cultural Day and also Eid-ul-Fitr,

marking the end of a month of fas ng from dawn to

sunset. The virtual tour of space during Na onal Simul-

taneous Story me was another adventure for us all

and hopefully there are many more to come.

Term two for our stage 4 students has proved to be a very intellectually s mula ng term. The students have

learnt about the four conceptual frameworks (Artwork, Ar st, world, Audience) and four frames (Subjec ve,

Structural, Cultural, Postmodern) used within Visual Arts to help cri cally analysis, deconstruct and under-

stand Artworks. The year 7 students will be con nuing the explora on of the elements of design using

different mark making techniques for the rest of the term. The year 8 students will be moving onto building

their nominated food objects and transforming them into a 3D sculpture with clay. These sculptures will be

displayed alongside their A3 water colour pain ng during Science week 2021.

Below are some of the extraordinary tonal drawings and water colour pain ngs completed at the end of

Term 1 by our talented students rela ng to the 2021 Science week theme of “Food: Different by design”.
