A QUARTERLY NEWSLETTER FROM ST.CROIX INDUSTRIES
1525 North 4th Street, New Richmond, WI 54017 www.stcroixind.org
WHAT’S HAPPENING
St. Croix Industries is proud to announce that we have
received the Small Business of the Year Award from
the New Richmond Chamber. We are honored to
receive this award and are proud to be a member of
the New Richmond Chamber and the local business
community.
The award was presented at the New Richmond
Chamber of Commerce Awards and Recognition
banquet. Over 250 local business people gathered at
Ready Randy’s to celebrate the year’s successes and to
outline plans for the future of commerce and
community gatherings.
St Croix Industries honors are the result of a
collaboration of everyone responsible for taking part in
our operations. I want to thank the Health and Human
Services board and the county board which have
supported us over the last 39 years; the businesses that
provide us work and keep us busy; the staff of SCI
who are our greatest assets and the heart of our
program; the parents and guardians who believe in
our mission and trust us to care and support their
adult children; and most of all, I want to thank the
consumers who come to St. Croix Industries and
allow us to serve and support them. You are the
core of our existence.
We look forward to another active year with the
chamber, taking part in the local events and being a
full partner with the community.
On January 1st we began working with the new
Managed Care Organization that took over after
Community Health Partnership went out of
business. The new company, Southwestern Family
Care Alliance (SFCA) is a public operated long-term
care company with a home office in Lone Rock,
Wisconsin. We look forward to a fruitful and
cooperative relationship as we both work to foster
the highest quality of life and increase
opportunities for our mutual consumers. For
additional information, you can find them on the
web at www.familycarealliance.org
We look forward to new and exciting things in 2013
and wish you and your family a happy and healthy
new year.
Thank you for your trust and support.

SCI CLIENTS GIVE BACK
Bobby, David and
other SCI clients
donated several
hours during the
month of
December ringing
the bells for the
Salvation Army at
Family Fresh in
New Richmond and
the County Market
in Hudson.
Clients and staff brought in food to donate to
the food shelf during the holiday season.
SCI committed to a weekly route delivering Meals
on Wheels. Michelle, Amanda and one staff
person pick up meals from the Community Center
and deliver them to approximately twelve
homebound people in the New Richmond
community. Michelle and Amanda have been
doing a wonderful job carrying the coolers, helping
to locate the proper addresses, and bringing the
meals to the recipients. They look forward to
seeing their “friends” every Wednesday and love
the opportunity to give back to their community.
Clinton has become a great bingo caller as SCI clients sit at
each table to assist and visit with each resident.
Allie is enjoying her afternoon hanging out with the ladies.
She is a great help!
One of the many ways that clients have found to help “make a
difference” in the community is by volunteering their time and
talents at various nursing homes in the area where they help
residents play bingo. Since Bingo is a popular game at SCI, it was
a natural fit and perfect volunteer opportunity. The clients use
donated premiums, from jobs that have been performed at SCI, as
prizes for the residents.

Daniel and Janet volunteered to sell coupon books at
Herberger’s in Stillwater
The Community Days Sales at Herberger’s were a huge
fundraising success for SCI. Not only were clients able to
earn money for activities and improvements such as the
summer picnic, new cubbies in the break room and the
Halloween and football parties… but they were also able
to practice some public speaking and salesmanship skills
with the shoppers in the community. It was a huge hit
with the clients!
We are once again selling Community Days
Sale coupon books! Contact SCI to
purchase your book for the upcoming sale to
be held on March 1st and 2nd. Thank YOU
for your continued support!

This quarter I would like to highlight our business partner, Commercial Recycling, located in Medford WI. We
recycle cardboard, paper and newsprint with Commercial Recycling, picking up at our location once per
month. This past quarter we recycled 26,000 pounds.
For over 35 years, Commercial Recycling has been helping businesses, both locally and throughout the state
of Wisconsin, reduce the amount of waste that ends up in a landfill. It is an industry leader, designing service
programs to best suit their customers’ businesses, be it large or small. They offer free, no obligation
consultations to design paper recycling programs that will fit a business’s specific needs or streamline the
recycling program that may already be in place. Reliable service and fair market based pricing is something
that you can depend on from Commercial Recycling.
Clients put grommets
into 10,000 fire alarms
for BOH Electronics, a
new costumer for SCI.
Jobs for BOH have
allowed us to expand
into basic electrical wire
assembly. Adam and
Dan are hard at work.
Kandra and Richard were two of many
clients who inspected over 510,000 parts
for Hudson’s Fastenal for their customer,
Norlake.
SCI spent several days washing and wiping the oil
off of 11,791 parts for Prism Plastics. Brian and
David worked hard and made the production
deadline.
David works with a special
tool that opens the KSUN
tape cartridges allowing
access to both internal and
external parts so that they
can be reused. Clients
worked hard to heat the
labels off the outside, and
separate the seven internal
parts of 4369 label cartridges.

The Day Services Program kicked off the fourth quarter
with a Halloween costume party, “mummified” hotdogs,
goulish green brew and spider cookies. The holiday
treats were enjoyed by all!
Edda and Nancy certainly got into the Halloween spirit with their festive attire. Nancy sported her favorite candy costume…M&M’s! Edda played
the happy witch casting only good spells. Anyone who knows Edda, knows that she is a big fan of parties, balloons and cake!
December was filled with holiday
preparations….decorating, and baking
scrumptious cut-out cookies. Christmas
music filled the air as colorful projects were
created. Our in-house artist created an arctic
penguin which was proudly displayed!

A note from Joelle:
I would like to take this opportunity to inform everyone that unfortunately, my time
as a job developer for St. Croix Industries will be coming to an end. I have been
presented with the opportunity to transfer to the YCSS (Youth Community Support
Services) Program within St. Croix County as a Social Worker, and therefore be
resigning as job developer. After spending over a year as a job developer, and almost
one year previous to that as a job coach, I can say that I will truly miss everyone that
I have worked with. It has been a wonderful two years with St. Croix Industries, and I
wish you all the best of luck. I would particularly like to thank the Placement
Program staff, and Placement Program client workers and job seekers for everything
that they have taught me in my time with the program. You have all been very
inspirational and motivated individuals to work with. I will miss you dearly.
Joelle Nygaard recently accepted a
position with St Croix County YCSS. We
congratulate her on her new position and
thank her for her years of service working
with SCI! We will miss you, Joelle!!
WE THANK YOU!
St. Croix Industries’ clients, staff, family, friends and guests
enjoyed an afternoon during the holiday season to delight in
an Italian lunch buffet, dance to live music and receive
amazing gifts. Everyone looks forward to this day when they
wear a special outfit and spend the afternoon “out on the
town” with their friends. It is the highlight of their year!
All of this is possible because of your support during our
fundraising opportunities! Thank you for making this possible!
The Placement Program continues to thrive
in finding employment and setting up work
trials for individuals. During the 4th
quarter
we set up 8 extended work trials resulting
in 2 hires. Work trials or hires have been
with Cooper’s Motor’s, St. Croix Valley
YMCA, The Centre, Future Farms, and
Family Fresh New Richmond.
Tammy is busy cleaning treadmills at the YMCA
Samantha enjoys the many
opportunities and variety of jobs
that she is able to perform while
working at Key’s Café in Hudson.
She was thrilled when they
recently offered her the chance to
work addition hours.
The St. Croix County jail continues
to offer job opportunities for
many of our clients. They are
kept busy at the laundry facility
where they are responsible for
washing, drying and folding
bedding, towels and uniforms.

This quarter’s client in the spotlight is SCI’s very own Greg
Rappley. Greg has been working at SCI since 1987 and still loves
coming to work each day… although he also enjoys his Tuesdays
with Day Services where he bowls and participates in their daily
activities. Greg states that his current favorite job is putting
nuts and screws together for KTEK, followed by putting washers
into Grip-x boots.
When Greg is not busy at work he enjoys watching some of his
favorite “old time” television shows on DVD. His favorites
include “Gilligan’s Island,” “Bewitched” and “Macguyver.” Greg
lives in New Richmond with his mom and dad and enjoys
spending time with them. He also enjoys when his sister is able
to come over for dinner and visit.
Greg is a huge Green Bay Packer fan. Almost every day of the
week, you will see Greg proudly displaying something from his
vast wardrobe that is filled with Green Bay Packer gear. Greg
loves to the watch the games with his dad! Go Pack!
Greg is a very competitive individual, so he really enjoys
going bowling and playing bingo whenever he has the
opportunity. If he can do one of these activities and go
out for a cheeseburger afterwards…life is almost perfect.
Greg is a hard worker and a wonderful asset to SCI. He
has a very outgoing personality and is always excited to
start work each morning when he hops off the van. Keep
up the great work Greg!
