Welcome
We have a new family joining our school community this week. We trust your time with us is enjoyable and rewarding.
We also welcome Ms Brittany Baker who is completing work experience. Brittany will be at Minden one day per week over terms two and three. She will be working on IT support, marketing and promotion.
Cross Country
Well done to our teams who competed at the BVSSSA Cross Country at Prenzlau in week one. Minden retained the overall points trophy. Six of our students were selected to represent BVSSSA at the Lockyer District Cross Country held last Friday 27 April at Blenheim. The entire team performed admirably over a tough course. Congratulations Landon who has been selected to represent the Lockyer Zone at the Western Ranges District Cross Country next Wednesday.
Thank you to all the parents who were able to provide transport and support on both occasions.
NAPLAN
Students in years 3 and 5 will participate in this suite of national tests on Tuesday 15 May through to Thursday 17 May. Please ensure appointments / absentees are organised for times outside of the testing times. All of the
tests are conducted in the morning session and are completed by first lunch break. Breakfast will be available for students in years 3 and 5 on each day of the test.
Cooler Weather
The days are becoming a little chillier. Please ensure your child has a jumper (with their name clearly marked) in their bag just in case the weather should worsen during the day.
Under Eights Day
This event will be held on Thursday 24 May from 9:00-12:30am. This year’s theme is “Children exploring language and culture”. We have a number of neighbouring schools joining us this year to make the event even more enjoyable. Parents and younger siblings are welcome to attend.
Athletics carnivals
The seniors’ carnival will take place on Tuesday 22 May and the junior carnival will run on Tuesday 29 May. Both events will commence at approximately 9:00am. Under the department’s Risk Management policy some events require more than one adult to be run safely. If you are able to help with the running of some events please let the office know. The Ball Games Carnival will be held on Wednesday 27 June.
Incursion
Footsteps Dance Company specialises in curriculum/age based movement programs for Foundation to Year 12 students. Focusing
on physical coordination and building confidence through risk-taking, the session addresses a number of areas of the HPE curriculum as well as The Arts curriculum. We are delighted to be able to provide Minden students with an opportunity to participate in a dance session free of charge! The first session is Monday 14 May while the second session will be Monday 21 May.
Attendance
Our attendance rate for the first two weeks of term two is 96.8% which is above the Department of Education’s target of 95% and Metropolitan Region’s target of 96%. This is a wonderful effort from students and families in ensuring every day counts.
Student Council
We will be holding our annual Lamington Drive in a few weeks time. Keep a lookout for order forms coming home in the next couple of weeks.
