School Vision:
At Chapman Valley Primary School children are nurtured, educated and challenged in
a supportive and safe learning environment. We use the best teaching and learning
practices to develop balanced, capable and creative adults who value achievement,
motivation, life-long learning and pride in their school and community.
Dear Parents and Community,
Ni hao
NAPLAN
Our year 3 and 5 students begain NAPLAN on line yesterday with writing and we followed up with reading today. The year 3 students still do the writing as paper and pen test but year 5’s writing was online. The reading test today is very clever as it looks at how the students answer certain questions and tailor the next question accordingly. We need to keep in perspective that NAPLAN is one test on one day and that our teachers have school based assessments and class based assessments that keep track of how our students are going in terms of their progress with WA Curriculum
OPEN DAY
A new initiative in 2019 to go along side reporting to parents semester report is our school OPEN DAY. This is an open invitation to all parents and prospective parents and carers with in our community. It will be on Friday 14th June. The open day will will commence at 12pm with visits to the classroom to see learning in action. The there will be a shared lunch and then the teachers will commence 1 on 1 meetings with parents and possibly the student if requested to discuss progress and future goals. We will send a timetable home with your allocated timeslot for your parent/teacher meeting. We hope to see all our parents at this opportunity and make the most of having one on one time with the class teacher. In saying that remember you are welcome to come and chat to any of us, any of the time.
P&C Support
I wish to convey our appreciation and thanks to the P&C and wider community for the Mother’s
Day Morning Tea last Friday. What an incredible event. Thanks also to the teachers and the
students who provided wares on their market stall and provided the entertainment. A job well
done.
The P&C support many of our learning opportunities throughout the year that the school cannot
fund. This year is a camp year for the 3-6 students. We are currently working with Yuna PS to go
on a collaborative camp with them, in week 7 of term 3 to Coral Bay. We are still costing this out
but at the moment it is all in our favour and it does look like it is the camp for 2019.
EXCURSION NEXT THURSDAY
AS you can see on the events coming up and you will get a note home the seniors are going in the
STEM Challenge next week at Geraldton Grammar School. They will participate in a range of
activities in teams and we are combining with Binnu and Yuna to make up the numbers. The
juniors are going to visit the museum to integrate their class HASS learning about Australia.

Our School Creed
This is our school
Let peace dwell here
Let the rooms be full of contentment
Let Love abide here
Love of one another
Love of mankind, and
Love of Life itself
Let us remember
That as many hands build a house
So many hearts make a school
The teachers have started using the Growing With Gratitude Program in different ways in their classes. You
can use some of these ideas at home. The program uses the 5 Habits of Happiness as its basis.
Health and Wellbeing Focus 2019
ATTENDANCE
One of our targets in our Business Plan in our priori-
ty of “A Positive Learning Environment’ is to main-
tain or improve the school attendance rate so that
90% or more of our students attend school for at
least 90% of the time. For weeks 1-2 of term 2 our
whole school attendance is 87%.
If your child is sick it is important
they stay home to recover and that
you notify us of the absence. Keep up
the great work.
The students get an extra Kindness to
Ourselves raindrop if they attend
school for 5 days.
Parents please notify the office of any
absences.
Families can access this
program from home….

School Board News
Your current parent members representatives are:
Fi Lord – until June 2019 (completing John Van Opijnen’s term)
Tenille Webb – until June 2020
Breyley Lauritsen – until June 2021
Natalie Greig – until March 2022
Renaye Stokes – until March 2022
Thankyou to those who nominated for positions on the board. This was the first time that I am aware of us needing a ballot! Jay, Nat and myself received equal votes and Jay chose to withdraw her nomination with the knowledge that she has many more years to contribute to the board. This consideration and forethought is what makes strong communities so thankyou Jay – as we have discussed, board meetings are always open and I look forward to seeing your nomination come in next time! Personally, I tossed and turned over putting forward my own nomination given our travel plans. I left the decision in the hands of the board.
After our coming board meeting, Fi Lord’s position will be up for election. Within our Terms of Reference, terms are viewed a bit like contracts – they need to be filled instead of just starting over when someone resigns or leaves. So while Fi has only been sitting on our board for less than 12 months, her position needs to come up for election. There are plenty of areas within our Terms of Reference that are open to interpretation yet this is not one of them .
There is a misconception that board meetings are closed and while that may be the case in other schools, certainly over the last 3 years the doors have always been open. Only board members are entitled to vote on motions, but you are most welcome to attend. An agenda is circulated to board members one week before any meeting and we contain our meetings to 2 hours so general business is not always discussed. Certainly if there is something that you would like to raise at a board meeting or motions to be put forward, I need at least 7 days notice (also part of our terms of reference). Confirmed minutes are available for viewing at the front office.
Our next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, June 5th, 5.30-7.30pm in the Staff Room.
Warm regards, Renaye Stokes, 9920 5555
School Chaplain We have a new School Chaplain, Mrs Jenny Box. Jenny comes to us with loads
of experiences. She is with us every second Wednesday. She is going to be
working with small groups, helping in art, helping deliver the Protective
Behaviours Program and will be another ear for students to have if they wish
to discuss anything at all to do with their wellbeing. Please feel free to come
and meet Jenny when she is in the school always on the odd numbered
weeks.
P&C News
I wish to thank all the parents and family members of Chapman Valley Primary School for taking the time to help out at the
Mother’s Day Morning Tea. It was a wonderful day and the place looked amazing. I wish to also thank the children for their
great performances and the beautiful manners they all displayed on the day. Also a special thank you to Mrs Blanke, Mrs
Goforth and Mrs Luxton.
The Mother’s Day Morning Tea has been going for over 30 years and even though it is not a huge event for us in terms of
monetary gain, it does however, go a long way in showcasing our lovely school and it’s just a nice way to bring women of all
ages together.
The next major event will take place on the 7th September which of course is the Chapman Valley Show Day with our burger
tent – this is a massive day and ALL parents and family and friends are asked to assist in some way. We will be doing a
roster that every parent is asked to adhere to however, any extra help is also welcome so watch this space as the run up to
this event will start in the next few months.
The P&C has also been generously donated some wonderful gifts lately and have decided to raffle these off with 1000
tickets being printed shortly. The prizes will include 4 different pieces of jewellery from Gemma Baker, a John Deer Big Farm
Truck with children books, a bar fridge stocked with a carton of beer etc. The raffle will commence around the 7th of June
with the prizes drawn at the Chapman Valley Show and everyone will be asked to help try and sell as many as possible.
Our P&C is always open to new members however, if you wish to come along and just listen in we are more than happy for
you to do this as well. Our next meeting will be held in the school library on Wednesday 12th June at 6pm.

SO please help us to gain another cheque in the mail by shopping at the local Rigters supermarkets in 2019. People who shop at either the Queens IGA, Rigter’s IGA on Durlacher St, or the Wonthella IGA can donate points accumulated to our school.
If you would like to contribute our number is 6050.
Please pass this number on to family and friends who would like to contribute their points.
