Dear Parents/Caregivers I hope that everyone enjoyed the long weekend, making the most of the warm weather and extra day with family and friends. Have a great Easter! We will see everyone back at school on Wednesday 30 March.
WELCOME We welcome Olivia Reid into Room 9. We wish Olivia a happy learning journey at East Taieri. PARENT/GRANDPARENT READING TUTOR PROGRAMME
We would like to start up our highly successful Parent/Grandparent Reading Tutor programme again this term. If any parents or grandparents have an hour to spare during the week, listening to children reading in a one-to-one situation please contact Jo Hackfath who oversees the programme, or Annette in the office. The programme aims to give children extra reading
mileage and has proved highly successful in accelerating children’s reading progress in the past. Thanks to those tutors from last year who have already indicated that they are keen to be involved again this year. MILK BOTTLES FOR KIWIANA The Kiwiana children are on the hunt for any 2L milk containers! We are recreating an Antarctic scene and part of this is an igloo. If you have any or would be prepared to save them for us, they can be put in R13 or given to Miss King in Room 10. Thanks so much.

JUNIOR/MIDDLE SYNDICATE DUATHLON – Wednesday 23 March The East Taieri Plains duathlon is being held on Friday the 1st of April. As a lead up to this exciting event, the Junior and Middle Syndicates are going to be
having a teaching/practice session at school. This will be held on Wednesday the 23rd of March. There will be no postponement day. We will be having a run and bike teaching event. We will be teaching the children how to go through transition areas, get on and off bikes, find their bikes and how to have fun at these events! As part of this we would like each child to bring along their bike and helmet. These will be placed out on the grass in specified areas as the children arrive at school. If your child does not have a bike, or is unable to ride a bike, please do not panic!! We can make alternative arrangements! This is not a race, the focus is on teaching the children how a duathlon operates. What: Practice duathlon When: Wednesday the 23rd of March Middle Syndicate 9.00am Junior Syndicate 10.15am approx. dinosaur costumes.
Daryl, Nate and Mollie go to the Butterfly Museum.
On Tuesday the 8th of March Nate, Mollie and Daryl went to the butterfly museum. First we whispered into the special circle to each other. It was so funny that we could hear our voices.
Then we paid our money to go in. The lady put a stamp on our hand.
There were so many butterflies inside the museum – they were very busy flying around. A butterfly landed on Sarah’s finger, one went on Daryl’s hand and one went on Nate’s tummy and then
his shoe!!!! Mollie went downstairs and saw two turtles in the pond.
Daryl, Nate and Mollie loved going behind the big tall waterfall. It splashed water on them. The butterfly museum was a fantastic outing to conclude our study about the life cycle of a butterfly.
WASTE FREE LUNCH BOX IDEAS Children with waste free lunchboxes and wraps.
PIRATE DAY As a culmination to the Middle Syndicate’s Inquiry on Pirates, a fabulous “Pirate Feast” was held at lunchtime on Friday. Thanks to parents for going to so much trouble with costumes and the amazing pirate food.
