Welcome Back I hope that everyone had an enjoyable mid-year break and is feeling refreshed and
enthusiastic, ready for the challenges of Term 3, 2014.
During this term most students will start making course selection decisions for
2015 and be thinking about their potential pathways beyond Secondary Schooling.
This will be a conversation for all of us as we recognise how the world of work has
(and is) changing. For our Year 12 students, Term 3 will be their final 'full term' of
Secondary education - we encourage them to stick to a study plan and use their
remaining study time productively.
We started the term with a short whole school assembly to welcome everyone
back and help to reset our minds into being organised and 'Ready to Learn'.
Staffing News Mrs Alison Kestle will be on leave for the first six weeks of term three. Whilst she
is on leave Ms Swan and Mrs Adams will be working with our students in the
Learning Mentor Centre. Mrs Earls has also taken leave and Mrs Debra Glab will be
replacing her.
Reports Student reports were mailed out at the end of last term. It is very important that
you read through the report with your young person, so you can discuss the
teacher’s comments and their implication in relation to future work. If you have any
questions regarding your young person’s report, please contact the relevant subject
teacher.
Year 12 Student, Parent and Teacher Conferences If you are a Year 12 parent or guardian you will be receiving a letter with the
schedule of your appointment times with your young person’s teachers on
Thursday, 24th July . If you are unable to attend at the allocated times please contact
the school office to reschedule. It is extremely important that these conferences are
attended so you can support your Year 12 student over the last few months of the
school year, prior to their exams. Conferences will be held in the school library
from 4pm to 7pm.
Student, Parent and Teacher Conferences for Years 7 to 11 These conferences will be taking place in the Language Centre in week 5 of this
term on Thursday, 14th August. Students are to talk with their parents regarding
suitable times and then schedule the conferences with the class teachers, through
the school organiser. This is on page 17 in the Middle Years Organiser and page 25
in the Senior Years Organiser. Interviews will be from 4pm to 7pm.

CLOWNS, COMEDY, CRASHES AND CABARET
CIRCUS OZ, WEDNESDAY 25TH JUNE
On the last Wednesday of Term 2, a learning mentor, two parents, three teachers and sixty students were enriched by their
‘rewards’ trip to IMAX and Circus OZ. If you asked several of the boys, it was VERY rewarding – all they could say after the show
was how they wanted to tell their mates was how they really MISSED OUT on special entertainment.
The weather was thankfully kind to us as we did a fair amount of walking – Melbourne Central to IMAX, IMAX to Federation
Square, Birrarung Marr to Flinders Street Rail Station. It was no hassle to the students as we saw international quality ‘street art’,
commercials being made, Circus OZ plus had lunch in downtown Melbourne.
Once we arrived at IMAX theatre we watched the film called “Penguins 3D”. The movie was based on wildlife on the South
Georgia islands. Then at the Museum’s Discovery Centre several students came close to extinct species and some of their cuddly
cousins.
The exquisite acrobatics of the Circus OZ crew were truly amazing. Some of the acts were sensational and some were really
FUN. The Circus OZ band provided their zany, eclectic and ‘on the edge’ sounds for the
show.
There was general agreement that it had been a fun, enjoyable and relaxing day – well that is what happens when you do the right
thing – work well and behave well – you get rewarded.
Paul Kellett, Circus OZ event co-ordinator.
