Congratulations to the Parkes Public Boys’ Hockey Team who were awarded gold medals last Tuesday after winning the NSW State Primary School Hockey Knockout Competition at Narellan. The knockout this year involved around 100 school teams from across NSW. The boys played Crookwell Public School in the semi final, winning 3-0. We played Ben Venue school, from Armidale, in the final and won 6-1. The teams played in tough conditions on extremely wet turf and in constant rain. They worked hard to manage the conditions. Our special thanks go to our coaches, Glenn Johnstone and David MacGregor, who have trained the boys each week since late in Term 1. We appreciate your skills and dedication. Thanks also to all the parents who support the players so well. The boys are always at training and our parents are great supporters, providing transport to all matches over the season. Our team players for 2019 were: Bohdi Ashcroft, Nate Harrison, Jett Johnstone, Angus MacGregor, Joel MacGregor, Sonny MacGregor, Eamon Moody, Ewan Moody, Kallum Munday, Jack Nutley, Samuel Quince, Flynn Thompson and Harry Yelland. Tell them from Me Survey This Term, our school will be participating in the Partners in Learning parent survey, another part of the Tell Them From Me suite of surveys (student, teacher and parent surveys) on student engagement. The survey asks parents and carers questions about different factors that are known to impact on student wellbeing and engagement.

Running this survey will help our school understand parents’ and carers’ perspectives on their child’s experience at school. These include: communication between parents/carers and staff, activities and practices at home and parent/carer views on the school's support of learning and behaviour. This valuable feedback will help our school make practical improvements.

The survey is conducted entirely online on smartphones, iPads, tablets, laptops or computers. The survey will typically take 15 minutes or less to complete and is completely confidential. The parent survey will be conducted between 26 August and 25 October, 2019. Although participating in the survey is entirely voluntary, your responses are very much appreciated.

To access the survey for our school go to: http://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/parkes

More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au.

The survey is available in 23 languages.

P&C Movie Night The P&C Family Movie Night was held last Friday evening. Thank you very much to the P&C for hosting such a wonderful event for our school community. Thank you also to all of the families who attended. I am certainly very glad that the weather held out and was perfect for an evening on the oval watching a movie.

Good Luck to Flynn Thompson On behalf of the school community, I would like to wish Flynn good luck for his games with the NSW Under 13s hockey squad when they play in Hobart next week. It is certainly a wonderful opportunity and a mark of the talented hockey skills that Flynn has developed over the years.

Tell Them From Me Survey The ‘Tell Them From Me Parent Survey’ has been released. A link has been shared on our Facebook page and further information is in this newsletter. We are hoping to gain a high response from the parent body on a range of matters, including the school uniform. The responses will be used as a guide in future decision making processes.

New School Zones for all NSW Schools All NSW state schools will be implementing zoning when enrolling new students to their schools as of the beginning of Term 4. This is in response to the revision of the Enrolment of Student in NSW Government Schools Policy. The revised policy is designed to support schools to manage all enrolment applications, encourage greater consistency in decision-making and make sure the enrolment choices are clear for parents. A brochure regarding the revised policy and zoning is included with this newsletter.

Have a happy, restful and safe holiday. We are looking forward to seeing you all next term.

Have a wonderful week. Mrs O’Neill

Thank you to all the families who came out on Friday night to enjoy ‘Ralph Breaks the Internet’ on the grass and support our last P&C fundraiser for the year. All money raised on the night will go towards our playground upgrade!

A special thank you must go to the amazing volunteers who helped make the night possible and the local businesses that supported us - CleanTeq Sunrise, CatholicCare, RNR Jumping Castle Hire, The Manildra Group, Woolworths and The Reject Shop.

Kindergarten has had an exciting couple of weeks. We were lucky enough to have Mr and Mrs Orr bring in two rams from their Gundarimbah Merino stud farm. Mr Brown brought the sheep in for Mr Orr with a portable shearing machine, which he used to shear the two rams.

Mr Orr told all of Kindergarten about the merino sheep and how their wool is used. We were able to touch the wool and the sheep. We discovered what the wool looked like close-up and felt the lanolin in the fleece that helps repel water.

This was a real treat and assisted us in learning to connect our lessons on Science and STEM to living things in the world.

We would like to thank Mr and Mrs Orr and Mr Brown for bringing this experience to school for us to learn from and enjoy.
