From the Principal
Dear families,
As you know, this week and last week, the staff in each stage hosted an information session to provide families with an overview of the learning that will take place this year at St Joseph’s. Key events pertinent to each stage were also shared. It was wonderful to see so many families able to attend. Your presence was greatly appreciated. Many thanks to the staff of St Joseph’s for providing such professional and informative meetings.
Carnevale-You Are Invited! Fashion Parade and Shared Lunch Next Friday (March 1) all students are invited to come to school dressed ready to party or as their favourite character. There will be a fashion parade at 9am and a SHARED LUNCH at 1.00pm.
Many St Joseph’s families have been busy preparing a mouthwatering lunch. Everyone is invited to join us.
Catholic Schools Week 2019 Catholic Schools Week is approaching! It will be held in Week Six (March 4-8).
This year’s Catholic Schools week theme is “Discover the Catholic School Difference”. Catholic Schools Week is an opportunity to articulate and celebrate all that we value about our Catholic school.
St Joseph’s is part of a community of Catholic Schools which enrols about 20 per cent of Australian school students.Catholic Schools teach the same curriculum as government schools, but our schools start from a foundation of faith, developing the spiritual life of our students as well as sustaining high expectations of achievement.
Catholic Schools Week Launch We invite you to join us for a short liturgy 9.00am-9.15am on Monday March 4, in the COLA as we launch 2019 Catholic Schools Week together. The liturgy will be led by our students.
Take a Walk Through Our Learning Spaces Following the liturgy, we hope you can stay a while to take part in a school “Walkthrough”. A walkthrough is an opportunity to wander through the learning spaces of our school, to observe learning in action. Classes will be open for walkthroughs until 10.45am.
St Joseph’s School Council The voice of all parents/carers is valued at St Joseph’s. To this end, family liaison is an important part of the role of St Joseph’s School Council. St Joseph’s School Council members are available for you to contact should you have any questions or suggestions about our school.

KEEPING YOU IN THE LOOP
Do you follow St Joseph’s on Facebook? If you do you will know that photos, messages and other valuable information is posted to Facebook by the school. This is information that is provided to families between newsletters or is additional to the newsletter. Also consider downloading the Skoolbag App. It is free and is another way we communicate with families in between newsletters. (It is important that all families connect with us via either Facebook or Skoolbag.)
NUDE FOOD DAY EVERY MONDAY
Every Monday will be Nude Food Day. On Nude Food Day, our aim is for student lunch boxes to be wrapper free. The purpose of this is to raise awareness of ways we can reduce waste/packaging and also to keep the healthy food profile high. We want our students to be informed about how we can be stewards of God’s creation. This is a practical way to show that each of us CAN make a difference to the amount of waste created. Thank you for your support.
STAFF DEVELOPMENT DAY
All staff will be participating in a Staff Development Day on Friday 22 March 2019. School will be closed for students on this day.
ASH WEDNESDAY MASS TIME CHANGE

Your waste is our treasure! • A focus in maths for infants classes will be on arranging and counting
collections in a flexible way.
• To assist with this, we are asking for your
help in acquiring a variety of objects, containers
etc that will help us develop number sense using
open-ended investigations.
• We are looking for Collections of items (i.e
a large number of the same items, e.g. marbles,
pegs, shells, large beads, blocks, feathers, buttons, incomplete jigsaw puzzles,
unwanted Lego/Duplo, small plastic animals etc) - anything that may be lying
around in cupboards that you don’t need anymore!
• Also any containers to store these items (e.g. egg cartons, paper plates, small
Ice cream containers, ice cube trays, containers with compartments, unwanted
Tupperware, zip-lock bags etc).
Let your imagination be the guide!!
Any donations would be greatly appreciated and can left at the office.
If you would like to know more about Counting Collections, the links below will provide you with an
overview about the skills developed through this procedure.
