FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Welcome to the final newsletter of term 2! Hard to believe
that the term is over already.
This week we are celebrating NAIDOC week, with a variety of
activities taking place throughout the week. The highlight of
the week however, is the opening of the art exhibition at
Maitland Region Art Gallery. Ms Yeend and a small but
dedicated group of students have worked consistently over
the past 12 months to create an artwork that is not only
amazing, but tells a magnificent story about Wonnnarua
country. I shared with Ms Yeend a text message I received
on Friday from a former principal of mine Hi Kell, just
wanted to congratulate you, your staff and students on the
wonderful art installation at Maitland Art Gallery. I worked
there yesterday and was amazed at the wonderful
exhibition. Well done!
Great work Ms Yeend and Tarro PS!
This term we have been Optimistic and Collaborative in our
learning, as we added 2 more dispositions to our toolbox.
What a brilliant opportunity for students to see that while
learning new things can be hard, great things can be
achieved through a positive attitude and working as a team.
As we close the term, I would like to wish everyone a great
winter break. This term has been very busy and there are a
lot of tired kids (and parents) who are looking forward to
sleeping in and taking a break. I will be on leave for the first
3 days in term 3. I am taking my family to Bali for a well
deserved break during the second week of the holidays. Mrs
Robinson and Mrs Collier will do a great job in my absence.

Looking forward to seeing everyone again next term
Teaching Award
Congratulations to Mrs Bourke who will be
receiving the Executive Directors Award for
Excellence in Teaching on Wednesday.
Mrs Bourke was nominated by her colleagues
at Tarro PS and is certainly deserving of this
award. Congratulations Mrs Bourke!
The Amazing Race
We are hoping for beautiful sunny weather over the
holidays to dry out Tarro Reserve so that we can finally have
our Amazing Race! The rescheduled date for this event is
Thursday 25th July. The event will still begin at midday and
students will still be in the same teams and wearing the
same colours.

A huge THANK YOU to the P&C for providing all Year 6
students with a Year 6 momento shirt.
Attendance Celebration
During a recent roll check by our Home School Liaison
Officer (HSLO) we were told that we had made significant
improvement in our attendance rate.
At the beginning of the year, our attendance rate was 88%
and as of this week, we are sitting at 94%!!
What a great achievement that was only achieved through
working together as a team to make regular attendance at
school important.
Next term will be a Zero Hero term, with the term broken in
half, and a celebration in the middle and at the end for all
students who arrive at school on time, are here all day and
have an average attendance rate of 99% or greater

Geography and Science units for Term 2 and 3. At the Wetlands,
students will investigate what makes a place special to people,
how they can care for them and why the wetlands are important
to Aboriginal people. They will explore the needs of living things,
collect data and determine external features of a variety of living
things, including plants and animals. Cost is $15.00 per student.

During the week we will be holding our annual NAIDOC week
celebrations. We will be opening with a smoking ceremony and
performances by our Aboriginal dance and didge groups. We also

Feeling Arty?
Check out Tarro's amazing 'Tree of Knowledge'
Well, it's been 12 months in the making but the time has
finally arrived and it looks AMAZING! The whole-school ma-
jor art project for 'Stories from Wonnarua Country' is on
exhibition at Maitland Regional Art Gallery (MRAG).
Last year, every student in the school was part of creating
individual artworks to collectively make up Tarro's 'Tree of
Knowledge'. This year, the Jnr AECG art project team has
worked hard to put this artwork together piece by piece
with the final installation happening last Wednesday.
The very excited art project team and the talented boys'
didge group will be attending a community celebration this
Wednesday from 11am at the gallery with me to celebrate
and share our work. Family, friends and community are
welcome to join the celebration with a free BBQ.
The artwork will be on display until October. Why not pop
into the gallery during the school holidays? Come along and
see if you can spot your child's individually designed leaves
hanging from our amazing tree. It's free and there are loads
of fun kids programs running at the gallery during the holi-
days.

have 'Curious Legends' visiting Stage 2 and 3. They are a
talented group from a theatre company who are coming to
run workshops on shadow puppets and a huge stingray
