Welcome from the Junior Chair Dear All Now in my second year as Junior Chair, which I feel honoured to be, I would like to welcome you and your child to Corsham RFC. This season marks the 50th Anniversary of the club and the Club Chairman – Jon Brennan and his committee are working hard to improve the club environment and the links with the local Corsham community. The club provides opportunities for young people between the ages of 5 and 18 to receive coaching and competition in rugby union. As Junior Chair I am keen to ensure that all those volunteering to be a coach, team manager or referee within the Mini/Junior age groups are given the right support to develop their coaching/working with children skills and also promote the RFU Values:

Teamwork , Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline, Sportsmanship

It is important to remember that children just want to have ‘a go’ at all different kinds of sports, be in the company of their mates, enjoy a hot dog after the game and learn a new skill. Yes it is good to win but we must also learn to lose with dignity and respect. Only when children get to their teens do they start to understand competition and the desire to win. I am confident that our coaches have the right mix and ensure that all children are included and most importantly have FUN!!! We welcome all parents to all training and competitions and value your support throughout the season. A vital element of any rugby club is its’ volunteers and I would like to remind all parents that every coach, team manager and club official is a volunteer and gives up a considerable amount of personal time and effort to make this club work. Without the added support of parents on Sunday mornings to man the car park and kitchen, the club will not generate enough funds to purchase kit for the children to play rugby, it’s as simple as that. We also want to make the club more welcoming to visiting teams, so the smell of a bacon buttie and a cuppa on a Sunday morning tends to fulfil most needs. It gives me great pleasure to be part of Corsham RFC, creating those special memories for parents and those moments to savour in every child’s life. Therefore can I ask all to perhaps spend a little extra time in reading coaches emails/requests for assistance and when down at the club just remember those that are giving their time to help your child develop their life skills. Kind Regards Wendy Ewart Corsham RFC Junior Chair

Treasurers Update: Dear all, I am delighted to say the clubs finances are now the best I’ve seen them in over the last few years. That is due to monumental individual efforts and team efforts made by committee member’s senior players, coaches and parents alike. We will have by September paid off all previous years debts and the summer’s empty club house bills. This is due to new sponsorship, the profits of the bar and kitchen, our anniversary fundraising event held in may, the windfall of the Corsham court rent as a film set and the results of functions held at the club in the summer. We have also funded the pitches upkeep with reseeding and other activities from this income received. This is brilliant for the club as for the first time in at least three years we will have parents and players subscriptions only being used for the clubs expenses going forward hence we are in the best position possible at start of season. However there is no reserve as there has been no reserve in previous years and we are aiming to spend more money this year on improving the club in a number of areas which together with simply running the club-house that all need paying for. This will continue to stretch the club to its financial boundaries in the coming year. We therefore need action as follows: 1) A more profitable run kitchen. 2) The online club kit shop to be supported by parents. 3) All player subscriptions to be paid by October so I can plan ahead and calculate what gap needs to be filled and by what means. 5) All matches and training when at home to be played at Corsham RFC and kitchens and bar to be fully manned during this time. 6) New fundraising event to be supported and organised for May/June 2015 end of season- ideas and help welcomed. 7) Grants to be reviewed with actions on how to apply and achieve success. 8) The continued purchase through Emma Goodwin of our advertising boards for all business people inside and outside the club. 10) Any other fundraising ideas anyone has for coming season to be shared with me. Together we are making this club great for all of us next season and for our children’s future. Claire Swain Treasurer of Corsham RFC

Senior Section Update It has been a very busy summer for the Senior Section, with a new Director of Rugby Kevin Snape recruited, Kevin’s first task was to put in place a new coaching team and we our pleased to welcome Richard Waddington and Iain Cook, both of whom were both with Kevin at Chippenham. Iain will also be playing for the 1st team. One of the other key tasks has been the integration of the colts, now known as the ‘Development Squad’ into the main body of the Senior Group, with great support from both Tim Drapper and Glenn Bremner the Development Squad coaches, who have also been supporting the senior training sessions, the structure is taking place to enable a player pathway from under 17’s through to the senior teams. The hope is that we can expand that down to the under 16’s when the time is right. Sponsorship: The section has also been busy in getting sponsors and our thanks go to AJ May, CastleTech and Global Radio Data Communications who have all contributed to the senior kit and to the overall club funding pot. First Step Gym on Leafield Trading Estate, have sponsored a number of places for the senior squad to train at the Gym, along with offering a discount on memberships for all club members. Sporting Gifts -Bumpers Farm Chippenham also supporting the club from an equipment perspective and are offering all club members 10% discount on all rugby purchases to take advantage of these offers please take along your RFC handbook, which you will receive on payment of your membership fees. Match update: The squad played Swindon College Old Boys in a pre-season game and won by 3 tries to 2. The first league game is September 13th, with the 1st team at home to Wimborne, we hope that the minis will support the game with a guard of honour and produce a mascot for the game. We hope this will be a major stepping stone in strengthening our relationship with the younger members of the club as we continue to develop a “One Club Culture”. Development: As part of this continued development, we hope to arrange for some of the senior players to help the younger members of our club grow and develop. Therefore we plan to introduce a number of sessions in which the Senior Squad will help with the training of the younger members of the club as well as encouraging the whole club to come and watch key matches for our 1st team. Information to follow.

O’Neils Sportswear– The new supplier of kit for Corsham RFC We are thrilled to share with you details of our new kit supplier, O’Neils Sportswear leading Irish manufacturer, who this year have just signed a deal to supply London Irish the premiership rugby side with all their kit. The senior teams will be wearing the new playing and leisure kit this season and we hope to introduce this to as many age groups as possible as soon as we can, with all members wearing the same kit for the season 2015/2016. This will go a long way to establishing a single identity for the club and support the club financially as we look to grow the club and continue to produce a rugby legacy for the next generation of Corsham Rugby players.

Current Kit. We understand that many of you have kit from last season and may have already purchased new kit for an alternate source for this season. However if you require any further pieces of kit, we would ask that you try and purchase this via the O’Neils web-site as they will be providing a % kick back to the club. The funds raised will be placed into the general club funding pot for the forthcoming season. This could provide a much required additional revenue line for the club while helping us to create a fantastic and professional looking set of rugby players! Mini’s We understand that to kit out a small child for rugby can be expensive especially when kids change their minds so often about which clubs/ sports they wish to play. Therefore we have created a ‘ Mini Griffin’s’ training t-shirt and hoodie. These are cost effective pieces that maintain the Corsham colours and therefore keep the children feeling part of the bigger team!

If you are interested in purchasing a training top or hoodies please contact Emma Goodwin, [email protected] .Sizes from 4-5yrs up to XXL Adult. All profits raised by the sale of these items go to the Club. Also available, Corsham Rugby 50th Anniversary Socks £8.00 and Boot bags with the Corsham logo and players initials are also available at £12.50.

We welcome your feedback…… As a small club run primarily by parents of players, we really would welcome your feedback on how you think the club is doing and any ideas of how you believe you think we could improve.

Good Luck & have a great start to the season.
