We are making this opportunity easy for you by running this fundraiser alongside the annual art exhibition in the last week of term. You will be able to choose a masterpiece at the exhibition or something your child has already drawn or a photo to be scanned by one of our committee members and make your order. It will be that easy! If you wish to do an original piece of art at home, please see Annette in the office for the correct art paper. An order form is included with this newsletter. ALiM Maths

Group Big Day Out

On Monday 7th September the AliM maths group visited these people to learn about how they use maths in their jobs; Pam Crawford - Post Shop, Linda Roxburgh - Mosgiel Public Library, Janine Sabiston - Blackstone Cafe, Jack Stafford - New World and Rochelle Stephens - Flight Centre. We had a fantastic day learning about the cost of posting mail, how to stick to budgets, making sure you make profits to pay the bills, how to design a holiday with flights and accommodation and how library books are organised with the Dewey System. Many Thanks to the people that hosted us - we really appreciated your time.

Thank you to Suzie Daniell who helped to transport the children.

SPORTS ACADEMY NEWS

The Sports Academy children were privileged to visit the Dunedin Central Police Station Gymnasium on Wednesday last week. What a fantastic experience it was. They got to have a go at some of the Physical Competency Test (PCT) challenges and activities, use the fitness equipment, climb ropes to the roof and challenge each other with fitness tests. Senior Constable Thomson spoke to the children about the skills and abilities required to be a police officer and the ongoing training for fitness levels. We were then lucky enough to be taken down to the cells. Here we got to look through the watch room and view the cameras. From there we were taken through the 'process' that a person in custody would experience. A real eye opener for some, and hopefully a good deterrent to encourage them to make the right choices!

Many thanks to our three parent helpers and huge thanks to Brendon for allowing us to have a look around and pass on his wealth of knowledge. We look forward to our next trip when we will be working on our fitness levels and mountain biking skills.

YEAR 5 & 6 EDGAR CENTRE DAY

We hopped on the bus and when we got off we were at the Edgar Centre. We got into our groups and a man from the Sports Institute of Otago told us some information. My group's first activity was rugby, we practised our passing and then the buzzer went off. There were lots of other activities like basketball, athletics, soccer, obstacle courses and hockey.

In every session we had two coaches from the Sports Institute of Otago. Elmgrove School and Silverstream School were there too. My friend was there, he is from Silverstream. We did three activities before morning tea and two after morning tea. We went back to school in the rowdy buses.
