March 2014

On Sunday 2nd March 2014, Hockey Tasmania held a Clinic at the Hockey Centre to promote the sport. As President of the Club and a parent I would like to thank those children who attended and the parents who supported the day. We were by far the most impressive Club there on the day and that is on the basis of hard work by Tania Barry, Kathy Westland and the A-Pool men (Alistair Addison, Angus Bolton, Stuart Webb, Torin Bester, Andy Isles, Adam Clifford, Travis Cresswell & Aaron Kitchener) who came and coached the Derwent juniors. On Saturday 22nd March 2014, a pre-season competition will be held in the form of a Super 9 Competition. Held for the 3rd year, the Gala Day/Club Colours Day, will consist of a competition between the A-Grade teams both men and women. The men will take the field for the first 15 minutes and the women for the second 15 minutes. The games are as follows:

The winner to take home $700 for their Club and this year there is $300 for second place.

In support of our A-Grade Men & Women, come and celebrate everything that is Derwent. Wear your Club entire, and have some fun with your team mates before the hard slog of the season commences, whilst supporting the men

& women in action. Below is a map of where Clubs are located on the day. The Club will have the Millingtons tent erected and join the

Watch out for the Club Pub night which will be in April. In the mean-time enjoy a meal or a drink with family and friends. Pick up your Club Pub Card from your coordinators.

Derwent Strikers—Strike Force

If you have an outstanding debt in the way of subs/uniform you are NOT allowed to take the field in the 2014 season, unless you have a prior arrangement with the Club. If you have any questions please contact John Harris, Treasurer. His details are on the contact page.

The 50 Club is returning in 2014. Details to follow.........

The National U15 Girls Tournament is being held in Hobart this

year from April 12—20. This year is a new format where states

and territories have the option of entering more than one team.

This means that the U15g tournament will have 12 teams partici-

pating from around Australia.

There are a number of volunteer positions that we are asking for your assistance. They are:

Tech Bench: - those involved with the tech bench throughout the tournament contact Brendan

Moore on [email protected]

Updating scores—we are seeking assistance from anyone who has experience in entering results on

sportdesq who may be able to assist on the weekends and or during the week of the tournament.

Please contact Alistair on [email protected]

First Aid Room: if there are any doctors, nurses or suitable qualified First Aiders who are inter-

ested in being at the ground to offer any basic medical assistance if required that would be fantas-

tic. You can sit and watch the games, you just need to be available for assistance when needed: Alis-

[email protected]

Whether it be for a few hours or a few days, any involvement is greatly appreciated and goes a long

way. Tasmania has a proud history of delivering high quality tournaments and this couldn’t have

been done without the assistance of volunteers in the hockey community. We hope you will con-

tinue to assist us as we strive to continue to deliver successful tournaments in the state.

Derwent is celebrating it’s 80th birthday in 2015. We are the oldest club in the Southern part of the State and the 2nd oldest in the entire State. Accordingly we need to celebrate in style for the entire of 2015. In order to be prepared, the Committee are calling on people interested to par-ticipate or be part of a sub-committee to organise the celebrations and plan events for 2015. If you are interested in participating (and we are looking for people from all areas) please contact Jane Ansell on [email protected] or [email protected].

Derwent Committee Meetings will be held on the following dates: Wednesday 9 April Wednesday 14 May Wednesday 11 June Wednesday 9 July Wednesday 13 August Wednesday 10 September Wednesday 8 Oct Wednesday 12 Nov

The committee are looking for people to be part of a sub-committee to look at suppliers/quality and de-sign of the Derwent uniform. If you are interested in being part of this sub-committee please contact Jane Ansell on [email protected]/0409005267

Ben Merritt (pictured left) is/was a long standing member of Derwent. Two years ago Ben relocated to Melbourne with his lovely family. Unfortunately last week Ben sustained serious injuries in a road accident. Ben was flown to the Alfred Hospital and placed in an induced coma. He has a fairly nasty gash on his head which is being operated on again, but the good news is this doesn't look to have caused any damage to the brain, apart from a few small bleeds which seem to be under control. He has a broken arm which will require further surgery in the coming days. He is now out of the coma and responding to basic commands which is obviously a very good sign. Whilst his neck is very sore, again there doesn't seem to be any real damage and he has the use of all his limbs, which is another good sign. We wish Ben all the best of luck in his recovery.

TASMANIAN HOCKEY CENTRE CASUAL TURF HIRE CONDITIONS

In 2014 there is a formal protocol for casual turf hire. This is to ensure that all users contribute financially to turf maintenance and replacement and the privilege is not being abused.

Casual turf hire is $3 per person

Casual turf hire must be paid prior to use at THC Office and a receipt obtained.

The THC cannot be used without permission from either THC or Hockey Tasmania staff

Casual turf hire is only available when there is not a ground booking or match time

The lights are not to be used for casual turf hire

The match circles are not to be used for casual turf hire

It is expected that no rubbish will be left and the ground is left neat and tidy

THC 3 is the preferred ground for all casual hire.

THC1 is not available for casual turf hire.

All ground rules apply and will be enforced, especially entering the grounds through the gates

If there are more than 6 players this is classed as a booking rather than casual turf hire and the

users will be charged the appropriate Hockey Tasmania turf hire charge

TIS/ETS athletes are required to pay casual turf hire if they are not being coached by a Hockey

Tasmania or TIS/ETS coach

Any players who participate with Hockey Tasmania or TIS/ETS coaches that are not part of either

program must pay the casual turf hire fee

Casual users are responsible for any damage to the grounds or facilities

Hockey Tasmania accepts no responsibility for injuries

If any of the above conditions are not met the casual user will be invoiced a minimum of a $50 fine plus

any additional charges for extra cleaning, repairs etc.
