Dear Parents and Caregivers Community Consultation:
Last Friday the staff spent the day at the Hoani Waititi Marae as part of the College’s commitment to the Ka Hikitia project – Managing for Success/Maori Education Strategy. For some staff it was their first visit to a Marae and was a valuable learning experience. There will be a Hui on Tuesday 11th June for Maori parents starting at 6.30pm. Next term we will have a Fono for Pasifika parents – more details will be available later in this term.
The mid‐year reports will be completed over the next few weeks and will be posted home towards the end of this month. There are two evenings set aside for parent/teacher interviews on Tuesday 9th and Wednesday 10th July. Please save these dates for an opportunity to discuss your son’s progress and what steps he can take to make further progress. You do not have to wait for the reports to come home. You can contact your son’s teachers on a regular basis to help his learning and email is the most efficient means of doing so.
Board Elections:
Six candidates were nominated for the four parent representative positions. Congratulations to:
Jason Mclennan, Betty Clough, Clare McGuinness‐Goodwin, Susan Gifford
The first meeting of the new Board is on Tuesday 25th June at 7.00pm when a new Board Chair will be elected. The previous Board Chair Mr John Holley did not stand for re‐election as he wished to pursue other interests. I thank Mr Holley for his six years of service to the College and for his leadership of the Board.
Fundraising:
The recent mufti‐day and associated activities raised $6,200 to assist Benedict Chong‐Wong to travel to Donetsk in the Ukraine to represent New Zealand in the World Youth Games. This sum includes $1,400 donated by the staff. The cheque was presented to him at assembly which was attended by his proud father. We wish Ben well as he leaves on June 11th to begin his preparations.
On Thursday 6th June the prefects are organising a cycle‐a‐thon to raise funds for the Catholic Caring Foundation. This has become an annual event which also uses the opportunity for a mufti‐day to boost the funds.
Special Character Review:
Every three years we have a review of the Special Character of the College. It will take place from 18th – 20th June and will be carried out by Sr. Sian Owen on behalf of Bishop Pat Dunn. I will give you feedback on the visit when I receive it.
God bless you and your families.

The product, Kaloba EPs 7630 helps fight against winter and seasonal ills and chills. It is NZ’s leading natural cough and cold product. It has been sold through pharmacies and health shops for the last 5 years and is also available from Countdown supermarkets.
Kaloba usually sells for around $34.95 but is available to be purchased from the school office for:
1 x 50ml bottle—$15

SCHOOL FEES ~ June 2013 To those families who are all up to date: Thank you for your continuing diligence in paying school fees. Your fees are literally operating the school! You should have received your son’s latest statement update last week, (but not if there is a nil balance or credit). Don’t forget these statements only show what is left outstanding, not the payments made. Please contact us if you don’t receive one as expected – there have been mail problems in the past. There should be no subject fees, Diary or ID card fees left outstanding as these were due in term one. Please take care of them now if this is not the case. Automatic Payments: If you pay by bank payments and would like a statement that shows both invoices and payments, let us know and one will be sent out to you. The important thing is that you divide the present balance by the number of weeks left in the year to see if your current payments will cover the fees. NCEA Fees: If you are fairly confident your son will be staying at school this year, feel free to go ahead and pay the NCEA fee if you haven’t already done so. He will need this fee paid just to access any credits achieved, whether or not he sits exams in the end. Financial assistance forms for NCEA payments are available from Mr Anthony Swanink or the Office. Sports Fees: If your son is involved in a sport you should be notified of the fee after the first official practice, if not before. Please pay these to the office. DON’T GET BEHIND IN FEE PAYMENTS – it only makes things worse long term. Even a little amount by automatic payment each week makes a difference, and gives you a good payment history with us should you need assistance in the future. As always, if you are not going to be able to keep up with school fee payments for any reason, please contact Philippa straight away for us to be able to make arrangements. Thank you. NB: If you wish to pay by automatic payment installment or direct credit, please note the bank details: Liston College Bank details: ASB Henderson Branch 12 3039 0320830 00 Please quote student's name on all bank transactions, thank you.

REMINDER!
The Liston College Board of Trustees has agreed to offer a special incentive for those who pay full fees by the end of October. All families who qualify will go into the draw for three prizes of $250 Pak’N’Save
Vouchers – very handy when coming up to Christmas time! We suggest you try to schedule your payments so that the last one is made by 31/10/13 in order to make the draw in early November
(and please note this must include ALL fees).
QUALITY CATHOLIC BOYS’ EDUCATION
‘The Journey’ is an expedition which involved 9 students, and three
experienced instructors from the Adventure Specialists Trust. Together they made a journey over 10 days cycling, tramping and kayaking from Bowentown, in the Bay of Plenty, back
to Liston College.
The Journey was an opportunity for the students to grow in areas of motivation, self‐confidence and to realise their potential to shape their futures.
The students were away from school and home for 10 days between the 22nd to the 31st May.
Amid the poor weather, the boys say that they had a great time cycling in the hail storm through Ngatea, tramping up all 952m of Mount Te Aroha for 3 days and kayaking from Kawakawa Bay to Motuihe Island in the Huraki Gulf. Each student was pushed out of their comfort zone. Yet as they rallied together and joined their strengths, the journey became more pleasurable. A problem shared is a problem halved.
The nine learners who completed ‘The Journey’ were (starting clockwise top right) Kim Estonactor, Tazman Galecki, Sosefo Vakauta, Sean Hale, Joseph Fahiua, Michael Murray, Campbell Shearer, Micah Forsgren and Nathan Moore.
